Obviously, this is a hiatus board, and we've had this here for awhile. But due to some recent complications, we're adding some new rules for declaring, but most importantly keeping, your hiatus.
001. When you first post on this board to declare your hiatus, post a return date! This may not be definite, and you can continue extending it as you need. If you don't include a return date, we'll count you as on hiatus for the period of one Activity Check (about one month).
002. Renew your hiatus. This is absolutely required for you not to be penalized for missing Activity Checks. If you still need a hiatus once your return-by date or one AC has passed, let us know!
003. You may request a—and update your—hiatus by posting on this board, or by privately contacting a staff member. You may send us a private message on the forum, tell us on chatango, message us on Skype, Facebook us, or send us a tumblr message. You have multiple venues to make sure we know you need time off—utilize them!
004. You may ask a friend to update your hiatus for you. They just need to post in this board or contact a staff member, and tell us that "so-and-so can't use the internet right now, and they need a hiatus."
005. If you stop updating your hiatus after your return date has passed or the AC period is over, we will assume that you are no longer on hiatus. This means you'll be added back into the AC, and if you fail to complete the AC after three strikes, your character will be dropped.
006. It is your responsibility to keep us updated. Staff are no longer going to contact you privately to check whether or not you're on hiatus. We cannot chase multiple members down each AC to verify their interest. If you want to stay, please let us know by being up-to-date with your hiatus! All it takes is a post or a message.
007. You do not need to tell us why you need a hiatus or an extension. It is nice to know, yes, but if it's something intensely personal or just because you don't want to, we won't require you to tell us. We just want to be able to keep track of who needs to be excused and who doesn't.
008. We're limiting the hiatus time you can have for a lost muse/writing block to three ACs (three months). If you consistently cannot post for your muse, please recognize this and give someone a chance to give it a shot. This is not to say that writing blocks don't happen, but holding on to a character you don't feel like writing for is a lost opportunity for someone else. As an extension of the above rule: if you're experiencing writing blocks, please be honest about it.
