Level-Headed || She happens to probably be the most sane out of her dysfunctional family. She keeps calm and carries on. And tries to stay calm despite how awfully dysfunctional things could be. She's a good woman for crisis. She's not going to rock the already sinking boat. She's dependable and somewhat predictable. Of course, the consistency does get a bit boring and does put her as a bit uninteresting compared to her siblings. Of course, this doesn't account for how long she will dwell on a topic. Proud || She's proud of what she has accomplished on her own, and of herself as a person. Actually, the pride can get to her head because she had rarely been recognized in her family. After all, Arthur had always been the golden boy and her other siblings tended to stick out a lot better than she did. So of course, if she had accomplished something, she'll be quite proud of it. Very, very proud. She'll retaliate to any injury on her pride. She is very proud of her Welsh heritage as well, and so when you get her rolling into a patriotic state of mind, do expect her to berate you in a rough, Welsh accent. Clever || Even if she doesn't stick out, she's pretty clever and resourceful. After all, she really doesn't want to bother anyone, so she's the do-it-yourself kind of girl. She's a creative thinker and often spots things that other people tend to miss and/or ignore. She's a stickler for details, though that could sometimes prevent her from ever seeing the big picture. She can get a bit full of herself in how clever she could be and not realize the flaws in her plans if there are any. Perfectionist || When she was younger and even sometimes now, she believed that she was at fault and that she had to make everything right and absolutely perfect. Of course, her family wasn't perfect, but she wanted to keep everything that was under her control to perfection. She has a high attention for detail and a higher standard set for herself. She is hardworking by nature. Of course, this isn't so good when she can't achieve her goals (and if it involves her family, those goals are never achievable). She'll beat herself up in the face of failure. Jealous || She is quite envious of those around her, and of affluence and snobbery. She, of course, bitterly states that she would hate the guts of those who act in such a manner, but in reality, she holds quite a bit of jealousy. When she lets out such feelings, it isn't quite a good thing at all. Nurturing || She has a knack for making people feel special and valued. She likes raising the spirits of others. She puts herself whole-heartedly into anything. Of course, she'll sometimes have to lie with a smile to keep this up because she really hates giving people bad news. Because little white lies aren't that bad... correct? Practical || Though she likes her fairytale world, she knows the cruel reality and is quite rational. After all, someone has to be rational in the Kirkland family. She's more likely to make her decisions with her head rather than her heart, even if she has quite a bit of feelings stored up in there. Or else how would things function? Of course, sometimes those feelings would hit you in the head and leave you lying on the cold, hard ground. She tries to prevent this, but it gets harder and harder to repress thoughts. Diplomatic || She believes in fairness. Of course, this is terribly difficult when she has personal feelings, but she has to use the wisdom she has to help resolve conflicts. After all, someone had to be the mediator amongst the Kirkland family. Unfortunately, her presence wasn't as great as she wanted it to be, often she would be the one getting in between and then pushed aside before she gets up and tries to intervene again. Her form of diplomacy is to try to get in between a situation and try to resolve it. It never works. Cautious || She's been through enough to keep her guard up. She's not a risk-taker at all. She weighs the pros and the cons before coming up with the decision that would benefit her the most. Of course, she tells herself that it's going to benefit her family as a whole the most, but really, in the end it ends up something that benefits her. Intelligent || She's more intelligent than she'll put up. She'll always know more than she'll reveal. She knows how to use the information she has. No one notices her, but she could easily undermine someone with blackmail if she ever had the urge. Of course, she's not that kind of girl. She's always a couple steps ahead. Manipulative || She can easily lie to you with a smile. She can get you to do what you want, despite how naive she could appear to be. She's good at reading any given situation and understands the complexities of emotions in order to achieve what she needs to do. She'll seem open but really, she's more closed than she'll admit. She isn't afraid to use you to her advantage. Her mind works in a very logical manner, given her profession. Outspoken || She is very outspoken. So outspoken, she actually does have a hard time figuring out when it would be a good time to shut up in a situation. She's not hot-headed enough to cause too many arguments, but god so help her, she has a hard time trying to keep quiet when it comes to her personal feelings. If she feels the need to speak, she will definitely speak. Critical || She tries her best not to show this, but she slips this up sometimes. She isn't tolerant of faults in others, despite usually answering with "It's okay." Most of her criticism is directed towards herself, thank goodness. Her criticism is mostly thought, she rarely voices it. If she were to ever voice it, she would seem quite unlike herself. Grudge-Holder || She can't help that she bears everything personally and holds onto it, letting the jealousy fester in her heart and the bitterness take root in her mind. Her rational mind says to let go, but her own volition says she will take it upon herself to receive her reparations. Her pride is truly easy to injure, and any faults done upon her are expected to be repaid twice over. She's not very vocal about her resentments, such things she keeps to herself. However, once you can get her to talk about certain people or events, it's really, really easy to tell she is holding a grudge. She will act upon her grudges, definitely. She is very good at staying bitter, and will remember if she doesn't receive an apology. She keeps track of people who are indebted to her as well, and always intends to claim payment. She can be a very passive-aggressive person, and won't outrightly be able to express her aggression to you, but you'll definitely feel it. Otherwise, she can be rather pleasant to be around if you have her friendship. |

Rugby || Who says a lady can't play Rugby? She doesn't mind getting bruised up and battered from Rugby and absolutely enjoys watching the sport. She's very passionate about the sport and tends to cheer the loudest with this sport. Nowadays, she doesn't play rugby as much, but you'll find her at the front row of rugby matches. Music || She happens to sing pretty well, and she knows it. She's been using her singing talents to help her gather info at the fancier higher-class bars. Music tends to be the vein that she's pretty good at in general. She also can play the piano and fiddle quite well. Though she doesn't spontaneously break into song like the usual Welsh stereotype (most of the time), she does end up singing away her feelings when alone from time to time. Alcohol || ...Shush. She does enjoy her occasional pint, is that a crime? She's no good at holding her alcohol down. She's not a depressed drunk, she's more of the spill the beans drunk and nonsense drunk. Sheep || She loves sheep. So much that it might be a problem. Not that she would ever shag a sheep, that's pretty cruel, but she had always had a love for those animals. She once had a lamb, but well... well, let's just say it was a family thing that the lamb had to suffer. The poor little lamb... she'd fancy herself a lamb. Her love of sheep is pretty irrational. Poetry || All Welsh people write poetry to some degree, don't you know? She's quite a sappy poet but she rarely likes sharing out her poems. Her poetry writing is pretty secret. Writing poetry happens to be one of those things that get her drinking because drinking tends to inspire poetry... though a lot of the time, she'll end up writing something pretty cracky and her English will look like Welsh. There are times when she hits the jackpot, though. She enjoys reading it as well. Mythology || She absolutely loves mythology and fairytales, though she hates how she can't live in those fairytales. She can go on and on about dragons and unicorns and all sorts of mythology. She has whole volumes on dragons. Writing || She does a bit of writing on the side, particularly fantasy writing. She also likes to take notes in her notepad when she's out on investigations when she sees something mildly inspiring. Leeks || Her favorite vegetable, she eats it much to often. Musicals || She loves musical theatre and theatre in general. Musicals make her want to break out into song. Daffodils || What lovely flowers! Karaoke Nights || She loves karaoke bars, even if there tend to be some intoxicated young people who would end up singing worse in their drunken tidings than when they are sober. It's quite fun to bond over the thought of song and amateur times to laugh at. Mornings || If she can get up early, she can get much more done and have an overall more productive day. She can definitely deal with mornings, especially if she has her daily cup of tea with breakfast. Violin || A hobby she had, she does occasionally take the violin out to play again, but she hasn't had much time as of recently. | Being Mistaken for English || It's one of those things that snaps her a bit. She will definitely correct you on this one. Nice. Very smooth. Being Taken Advantage Of || She may try to appear naive, but she's no pushover. Anyone try to take more than their fair share, she's going to fight back for what she thinks is rightfully hers. Being Drunk || She doesn't exactly like acting like Sleeping Beauty. Well obviously after the random singing and prancing around, she would end up falling into her slumber, but still. It's embarrassing! She doesn't intend to be a drunk poet, there's a point where being drunk is good for the quality of writing, but there's also a point where being drunk isn't good... or you end up with gibberish that looks like Welsh but isn't Welsh. Simon Cowell-type People || She's a hypocrite but she hates it when people are over-critical... and judging her singing, no less! No one judges her singing, her voice is angelic to the tenth power! Messy Rooms || Oh dear, they make her feel like cleaning up... and that's the last thing she really should be doing. She's a bit nitpicky when it comes to how a room is arranged. Overcomplication || There really is no need for such silliness. As a dutiful person, she has no desire for overcomplication. Weeds || Ugh those parasites. They don't belong in a garden at all. What a pain in the neck. |
Dreams | Fears |
To Fix her Family || She wants them to be happy again and for everything to be better, beautiful, and loving. Just as a family should. She wants her father to be happy (despite the bad that he had done), for all her siblings to be reconciled with that father, and for everyone to stop hating each other (though she herself really should learn how to let go of her own personal resentments). To stop fighting. To remember that she still exists. Everyone is broken. She believes that she herself is probably the only child of their father that genuinely still loves him. Donald hates him. Aoife probably hates him. She just doesn't want them to keep being broken. Justice || She has taken up her badge in the name of justice. Because of this, she aims to be able to provide answers and evidence in order to figure out who the perpetrator to a crime really is. To be left with no answers is something she absolutely hates. She loves to tie up loose ends, and so, justice is he way to go. Justice means the administration of fairness, to punish people for their crimes, and to give others the closure they really need. Badass Adventure || Cliche as it is, she wants to go on exciting adventures during her investigations. Working for Scotland Yard is somewhat limiting compared to becoming a private investigator, even if the paycheck is a bit more certain (though she does get quite peeved when prosecutors threaten to cut her paycheck). She does get stuck doing much paperwork at Scotland Yard, but she's in it for the badass things she could potentially be doing. It's quite an adventure, trying to solve the puzzle of seeking the truth that is obscured by criminals. She has no tolerance for criminals, and so catching them is a thrill. She'd like to go on a badass investigation that is almost unbelievable, and write about such a journey. | Fragmentation of Family || Too late, her family is already fragmented. She was always scared of the fights of her family, always scared of the yelling, and always hid. She'd rather her family doesn't split apart so easily. She believes in strong bonds, but the Kirklands aren't exactly great in that department. Being Outwitted || She's pretty proud and a bit over-confident when it comes to being several steps ahead. She wants to believe that she's smarter than her adversary and so being outwitted or not being able to see something somewhat scares her because she believed in everything being foolproof. She's relying on stability. Losing her Singing Voice || This is trivial. She fears the damaging of her vocal chords. Sore throats are to be guarded against. Without her singing voice, she doesn't feel complete. |
Background |
Cerys Lewis-Kirkland was born in Wales, a half-sister of her brothers and sister. The family happened to be quite fragmented. There were often shouts and fights and father dear being... father dear. Cerys wasn't a fighter. She just couldn't. She hated watching just how fragmented and shattered everything became and would either try to hide herself away and read her poetry books for comfort or, on some occasions, try to break up the fights, though most times, she has been unsuccessful. She lacked the natural presence that her older sister had when it came to such matters. She had been quite vocal in the family, yes, but that was easily pushed down when everyone else could yell much louder. She had no desire to add to the conflict, and so tended to keep to herself in the family, though she would sometimes be forced to fight if there was anything directed personally to her. She didn't tend to jump in and defend a side if it was an issue that didn't involve her. She has had her arguments with Aoife, even had tried to get her to notice how many of the fights were sparked by her, but the girl wouldn't listen anyways. Shrugging her shoulders, she simply tried to not stir the flames. Her older siblings could deal with their own problems, but if they needed a mediator, Cerys would gladly take to the position. She would grow accustomed to being alone, actually preferring the peace and quiet. She would practice singing outside, enjoying nature and not wanting to go back inside to an unhappy home. She would read her poetry and mythology books, write poetry for herself, try singing some lyrics, just anything to keep herself out of that environment. She would also eventually learn how to play the violin. It was her solace, a small crack in the prison cell of sadness. She needed to escape. Mediating was often too painful and sometimes necessary, but if anything, she would rather stayed out of the way. The peace of the outside, and not to mention the friendly sheep, beckoned to her every time she sensed a fight brewing. She was a vulnerable person that got pushed around a bit at her school because of her father's antics. It wasn't happy and she started realizing... she can't be simply naive. That wasn't going to fly at all. She had to toughen up and use her naive-ity to her advantage. She started developing a critical side when it came to others, trying to build herself up to counteract the degrading effects that her family troubles have to her name. Of course, she's never going to stand out for her accomplishments, but her failures would be regarded as "Oh, she's a Kirkland, of course." She had to be cautious of others and try her best not to get into trouble or take things too seriously. She would sometimes have to manipulate her way to get what she felt was rightfully hers. It was painful and she hated herself for it somewhat, but eventually, she would become so good at lying that no one would be able to tell. She could lie with a smile on her face. It was sad for her to watch herself become that way, but sometimes, it's necessary to stay sane. This would keep going on and on... and then the final straw would be Donny running away. Cerys would seem calm but would actually fret for her half-brother's well-being. This had sparked a bit of an interest in investigation: Where could Donald have gone? She attended Cardiff University with an interest in being able to answer such a question. She studied Criminology at Cardiff University and managed to go through police academy. With connections and excellence in police service, she was transferred to the detective bureau of Scotland Yard. She did spend some private time trying to figure out the answer to the question that had brought her to this career, but the job simply swept her away. She found much excitement in her career at Scotland Yard, befriending the other police officers, working with authorities in leading people to find the answers to crimes. Unfortunately, there is obviously the bureaucracy part of it, and she does have to deal with getting evidence to the prosecutor's office. She isn't quite keen with some of the prosecutors, but no matter. She does her job. Now that Aoife has figured out where Donald has gone, that question had been laid to rest, and Cerys continues to work with Scotland Yard. Due to her good experience, she has become a top-notch investigator who is called to action when it comes to organized crime and serial murderers. She does admit, it's a bit of a sketchy field to work with. She has taken on a leadership role when it comes to such investigations; after all, those sort of cases cannot be dealt with by one investigator. It isn't quite fun questioning witnesses, but in correlation with MI6 and the British Government, Scotland Yard proudly serves London in the administration of justice and making London a safer place. And Cerys is up to do just that. |

Even if she really wasn't one of those big-time stars that frolicked London, she had to admit that being in the performing arts was always tiring and always required a lot of energy. Her agent was freaking demanding, and so when she wasn't performing in front of a crowd, she was either going through vocal exercises, rehearsals, other performances... all the not-so-fun stuff. So really, any moment where she could get a break and actually relax was always welcomed. She was glad that she wasn't the most popular thing around. Honestly, the attention that some of the others endured was just plain awful. She didn't expect a large fan following to be stalking her every move (and if she did, she would have a friend of hers help curb that), and so she pretty much only expected getting picture or two taken today. Sans the autograph. It was a nice, somewhat slow day at the zoo, and so the aquarium really shouldn't be crowded if the zoo isn't crowded. This should definitely be relaxing, stress-relieving, and entertaining. The Aquarium is the oldest public aquarium in the world, which of course ushered a slew of aquarium enthusiasts (who knew there was such a thing) and some tourists who happened to enjoy having their slice of history before tea. Separated into three halls, there was a variety of different kinds of fish in each hall. The first hall contained freshwater fish like rudd and European eels. The second was coral reef themed, containing the colorful clown fish and stingrays who were proud of their colours and weird forms. The third hall had fish from the Amazon River, with piranhas and electric eels. The "Big Fish Tank" had the largest fish of pet owners who simply did not know how to care for their pets. At the moment, Cerys had decided to take a peek at the second hall, which sounded the most lovely since she didn't happen to be a fan of European eels, electric eels, and large fish. But of course, she ended up looking at a somewhat scarier fish than the eels. The jellyfish. Oh boy, they say that the sting of a Portuguese Man-of-War can induce fever, shock, and even hinder the function of the heart and lungs... oh dear that sounds painful. It was good a relief that the Portuguese Man-of-War was behind the glass. She felt more fear for the sting than admiration for the beauty of that one. Even the Box Jellyfish was frightening, the sting reportedly able to kill humans. She wondered how they were able to clean the tanks without getting stung. She turned towards some prettier fish, like the yellow tang and the mandarinfish. She looked at the sign for that one. MANDARINFISH Synchiropus splendidus The Mandarinfish is a member of the dragonet family. It is native to the Pacific. A very colorful fish, quite friendly in its environment. Its diet consists of fish eggs, polychaete worms, and small gastropods. They can be somewhat difficult to keep in an aquarium due to their diets. The mandarinfish appeared on a 39 kip postage stamp from Laos issued in 1987, and a 40 cent postage stamp of the Federated States of Micronesia issued on 26 August 1993. Interesting... If only some "colorful flashy" people were "friendly"... |
