Marcia Anita Breno To put the term lightly... She's the bomb. This explosive girl is packed full of knowledge on both arming and disarming intricate artillery whether remotely or on-site triggered. She has a long fuse, thank goodness, and loves a good joke. Be careful during her disarming classes: she might tick you off with her constant teasing, or possibly shorten your lifespan with her pranks. Needless to say: she's da bomb dot com and she'll nuke any pre-existing assumption that bomb researchers are boring and safe off site. |

Marcia is well-known for being a bit of a tease. This is one of the first notable things you will catch on to as you speak with her. She’s tried to develop a smart, charming personality and she has become more accustomed to that nature than her previously solely cheery attitude. This both gets her where she needs to go and stuck in the deepest holes out there… And yes, she has learned to get out of those, too. This woman generally looks on the positive side of things. She enjoys being among friendly people and prefers more local settings than the red carpet. She can live with big and flashy, but a quiet morning on the beach fishing would be better to her than anything. As grand a prize whatever you can offer might be, she seems to value the smaller moments more than what she knows she should strive for. Marcia is also the sort to become very friendly very quickly. She also likes to consider friends as family. Even if it's makeshift and unstable, she would rather be around happy people he can trust than to live believing everyone is the enemy… Or even that they could potentially become such. Now, about the burns covering the left portion of her torso and part of her left thigh, Marcia tends to wear clothing that covers. She is healed, now, but the burns discolor her a great deal on that side. She’ll use her story to help warn people about how important it is to disarm the bombs you deal with, but she’ll rarely show them. She’s self-conscious about them, even if she doesn’t always act like it. Moving on, Marcia has a love for family. Even though she is worried about what might happen or how her partner may react to her appearance, scars, and past, she truly and honestly looks forward to settling down and having a family. It would be easier not to have to worry about the big things and to focus on the smaller things. Someone who can really appreciate the slower times than the fast times in life. Other than that, there is little that embarrasses the woman. While she can get flustered by being called out on her flirtatiousness at times, she typically has no problem with humility in the form of going to local events, and even helping others with hard work when they ask. She loves kids, too, and always looks to help inspire other people. Kids make her day, really. However, despite all of this, don't piss her off... her temper can get the best of her in the worst of ways. While she generally has a long fuse, when you finally reach the end then you’ll find that fuse attached to a nuke. Due to her outgoing personality, she can put herself in dangerous situations by running that mouth of hers. Even in the face of danger, she'll spout off things that could potentially get her killed. Perhaps it's her way of not appearing frightened? Though surely she could go about it a different way.... Right? She can also come off as a bit over-protective. Due to a lot of situations back home, the few close friends she makes she'll defend to the bitter end. Even being younger than plenty of her coworkers, she used to get called Mama Breno all the time because of her worry over them whenever they were injured or feeling down. It can often get in the way of her concentration, and that's no good when dealing with live bombs. Lastly... she can be a bit intrusive. The moment she considers you her ally, your problems become her problems. Depressed? She'll blow down your door just to get to you and make sure you're okay (I'm looking at you, Aoife). She'll go to greater lengths than necessary, and thus ends up appearing nosy beyond belief. |

THE SUN, has always been a warm and welcomed feeling of warmth. She loves warm weather, warm water. She still can't help but enjoy laying out in it. The sun shows that the skies are clear and everything will be fine. FISH, is something of a delicacy to her. She loves eating pretty much any form of sea-fairing creature. She can't really help herself, at times. MUSIC, calms the beast, after all. She especially enjoys more upbeat music, but soft music can lull her to sleep fast. Aside from it just being a cultural thing, Marcia loves hearing people play any instrument. PLAYING WITH HAIR, might be considered odd, but Marcia enjoys messing with people's hair and styling it. She just enjoys braiding, spiking, or otherwise styling hair with what resources she has. SAILING, boating, fishing, whatever. Anything that deals with the water is something Marcia loves. The sea and the ocean are her two favorite places, even if nowadays she's shy about revealing her scars. | LIES, are foul things. She doesn't hold much faith in those who have lied to her, especially considering she's an honest person. HER SCARS, are almost the bane of her existence. When people once complimented her on her figure, they now turn their heads at the burns. She's grown self-conscious over the years and tends to hide them from view. SURPRISES, are a huge no-no when it comes to Marcia. She hates being snuck up on, pounced, or otherwise caught off guard. She can sometimes react aggressively, but usually just ducks for cover. She's had enough surprises dealing with bombs for one lifetime. INSULT TO FAMILY, is something she will not tolerate! She refuses to hear anything bad about them from someone else's mouth outside of family… But inside family? That's slightly different. PANIC, is never a good thing. She does her best to stay calm in desperate situations because panic can lead to mistakes. She has no room for mistakes in her job... |

GET MARRIED, to someone who will accept her faults. Isn't that everyone's desire? But for something who once turned heads toward her and now turns them away... it's something very desirable. HAVE KIDS, and watch them grow... And preferably die before they do. In this world, you never know... Though also not until she's gotten old enough to be the monster-in-law and torment her children's spouses... And then take their money to be sent to spas because she's old and needs to relax. SAVE SOMEONE, from a bomb. She specializes in disarming, as well as the research she puts into studying them. She hopes to be able to prevent what happened to her from happening to someone else... Perhaps a bit cheesy, but it would perhaps put her at peace. | HEIGHTS, are terrifying. She's fine with the depths of the ocean, but the skies? She doesn't like looking down at earth. She'd rather look down at a vast, open sea. BEING ALONE, isn't ever pleasant. She especially has a fear that she'll remain alone, especially with her scars... But not just that. She hates being alone in general because you never know what could happen... And in a bad situation, isn't it better to have someone you know will come for you? DEATH BY EXPLOSION, would suck... but more so because it's something that could happen any moment and yet she loves her profession. She wants to help people, but there is always the fear of everything literally blowing up in her face. She's survived once, already... Please don't make her go through that, again. |
Background |
Marcia Anita Breno was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. Growing up in the largest city in Portugal had its advantages, but also its disadvantages. She never got particularly close to anyone, despite being relatively popular for her outgoing personality as she grew, but in part due to the number of friends that actually remained friends through all the years of her schooling. Her interests were very different from everyone else, and though they all admired her for it… there was little to relate to. She grew up relatively normal, otherwise. Her family encouraged her interests, if not warned her as well, and she had her share of close friends. She actually moved to America for a short time to study there, which was where she met her fateful accident. She was roughly 22 a the time. It left her in the hospital for months as she healed from the severe burns. At the time she and the researcher she was studying under received a supposedly disarmed bomb. While investigating it, the bomb was set off. Her mentor died in the explosion, while she received severe burns to her left side... And it's left her scarred in more ways than one. For the next year she worked in interrogation. It didn't suit her, but she was too afraid to return to her previous profession. She even moved out of America and left for England. It was a slow year, to say the least, but at least she learned a lot from it... like the fact that she couldn't stay away from her love of explosives just because of a near-death experience. She eventually got back into researching, and was surprised when the M16 picked her up as their bomb researcher. In this job she not only studied the explosives that were brought in, but also taught the agents how to disarm them. It was the least she could do to prevent her story from happening to others. Though, on some days she wonders if it's useful or not.. considering the amount of awful things that occur so often around here. |

Green eyes fluttered open, the distant sound of beeping rousing her from her deep sleep. There was a numbness to her body that made it difficult to even sense her fingers or toes, though it felt as if a heavy weight was laid over her body. It was almost suffocating, and she could feel her throat closing in on itself. The beeping in the distance started becoming faster... Soon enough she was choking-- But soon nurses arrived to pull the long tube from her throat, allowing her to cough. The air should've felt good, but it pained her. Her chest felt ready to collapse, but it didn't. Her body ached with each forced breath, but it didn't break... And then the burning came. After several hours of medication, calming down, and explanations, Marcia Anita Breno sat up in her hospital bed staring blankly at her folded hands in her lap. Her coworkers sat around her in chairs, their expressions grim and apologetic. Their voices shook with every explanation... About the bomb that the others failed to disarm before bringing it in... Anthony, her mentor, who was killed in the explosion... And the burns all over the left side of her body. She took a deep breath before nodding slowly. "That's the business, boys... When you play with fire--" The intended joke became stuck in her throat, not wanting to face the light. Instead, she bit down on her lower lip. Marcia could feel the cool drops of tears land on her hand and the sheets, while taking in another shuddering breath. "He was a good man." "He'd be glad you're okay." "He lived a good life. Marcia nodded slowly as the others got up and left. She gave them a small wave and thanked them for coming by, but as soon as they were out of sight she felt her body collapse in on itself as she curled up as much as the pain and bandages would allow. "I never want to deal with explosives, again... I don't want to die..." She buried her head in her arms, finally feeling the sobs that had been threatening to break free since she'd awoken overwhelm her. "I don't want to die..." |
