Okay, voted for LJ, so I might as well list some pros to explain why I did!
- Organization. We got some awesome suggestions on how to organize the threads in case we go with forums, so it's certainly not impossible to make things look neat here, but with LJ it takes less effort. It's pretty much done by just commenting once and not having to worry about creating new sections and threads. Which also means it's-
- Easy to keep track of. You post a comment, people reply to you, you post comments to people. Easy! You can see everyone's reply to you at once. It also lets you keep track of where you need to reply really easily with notifications and reading around isn't a pain.
- Keeps the board from being cluttered. I remember back when a certain section of the forums opened and everyone was posting there really fast. It was crazy to try and go back pages of recent posts to find anything else.
- Faster posting? Probably very much a YMMV thing, but I find it easier to post faster when it's actually a journal rp, as opposed to a forum one. Shorter tags come more naturally and you don't have to worry about spamming the forum with short posts.
- Icons? Fssst not really a big deal, but I like the whole icons-show-character-reactions system personally. Especially in a Valentine-themed thing, that could lead to fun reactions.
- Easier to partake? Again, YMMV since you do need to set up an account for LJ if you don't have one, but I think the bar of just throwing up a comment in the LJ com is easier and takes less time than setting up multiple threads with multiple people. We did have a lot of people participating earlier on as well, even though that meant account-creation.
- Privacy/Separation from normal stuff? Idk if that's a thing, but since the Valentine's will most likely be silly if not even AU, it might easier if all that cracky fun stays away from the actual forum and doesn't scare away quests and stuff, fsst. Basically, you can go as crazy as you want in our own little space.
... Aaand I think that's it for now? Idk if all those even make sense, but that's just my two cents on the topic. Others feel free to throw up pros and cons for other things as well. I think I already touched on a few cons with LJ as well, like setting up an account. Also, some people might not have that many icons to use - which is okay, though, as you can fare with just one. People might also forget to check back if they don't keep logged in there? And long threads, if we get those, will start to look ugly at some point. But, yeah.

Going to toss up my hand and nominate Dreamwidth, which is better a livejournal, and where the majority of LJ communities have migrated to.
