The sun was out today. As surprising, unbelievable and too-good-to-be-true as it sounded, the murk, rainy days London was famous for had finally given way to sunshine that seemed like it had come to last. Sure, the warmth was hardly comparable to the heat of Italy's southern coasts, but it was definitely a welcome quest in Lovino's life - especially since, for once, the sunny days had actually lasted past Friday.
Fi-fucking-nally; way too many times in the past, the Italian officer had gotten excited over the prospect of loafing around in the sun during the weekend after his weekly work was done and over with, only for the rain to return the second he shut down the lights at the station on Friday. He swore, the heavens either hated him, loved fucking with his mind, or both. He was just as big a joke up there as he was down here on earth.
But not today. Today was a sunny Saturday morning, and Lovino Vargas planned to make the best out of it, no interruptions allowed. He'd left his cell phone at home for that very purpose. The entire freaking city could burn down around him today and he would not lift a finger to help, not even with promises of a raise. ... Well. Maybe with promises of a big enough raise. But in general, no.
Closing his apartment and setting foot onto the street, Lovino breathed in fresh air, content for once. He'd always hated living in Globe Apartments. Sure, the price was affordable even with his paycheck, but the goddamned college kids making a mess out of the halls and holding parties every goddamned chance they got (and more) drove him crazy without fail every single time. It was made even worse by the fact that he was an officer and many of his neighbours knew it. Whenever there was trouble, a fight to be calmed or a party needing intervention, nobody bothered to dial up the cops on duty at the time; rather, they walked up to his door and fucking woke him up in the middle of the night to deal with their shit. And then there were the 'cool kids' who purposefully messed with the only cop in the building by parading around his floor as loud as they could to see what they could get away with.
But right now, Lovino didn't give a damn about any of that. What he cared about was that his apartment complex, as annoying as its tenants were, was located ideally close to Regent's Park - aka, his destination for today. All he had to do was walk a bit and he'd find himself at the lake, able to flop down on what little sand he could find there for a moment to himself. Well, not completely for himself, as he was sure the place would be crowded by either teens, tourists or hung over students, but what the hell. He'd take that over a rainy day inside the house any day of the week.
Besides, he had a book and headphones in tow; if the people around him got too loud and annoying, he could just immerse himself in the world of the written word and block out everything else with some good ol' tunes. That was, if he didn't fall asleep in the sun first. Now that'd be the best, he was in need of a serious nap.
Walking through the park and scouting out the least crowded place he could find, Lovino hummed and made his way to the lake's edge. He sat down and set belongings next to him, stretching his limbs and letting out a yawn. Perfect! The park wasn't that crowded, either. Maybe there was some sort of event going on somewhere else in the city that attracted people's attention more? There was an aquarium and a zoo nearby - maybe people went there. In all honesty, Lovino didn't really care.
He fell on his back, stretching once more before he closed his eyes and pushed his sunglasses up the bridge of his nose.
Nope, today he wouldn't have to care about a thing.
