Matthew Williams Blonde. Bookish. Bespectacled. Three things that might cross someone's mind when they see Matthew. That is, if they even notice he's there. Born without a presence, Matthew blends with the crowd, background, wallpaper, etc. easily. It's an annoying trait he has to live with... and the ability that had earned him a place among the agents of the MI6 |

Patience is probably Matthew's greatest virtue. He's dealt with people ignoring him for almost all his life. It's not easy being the invisible one, but Matthew deals with it just fine where most people might have not done so well. He's learned to take it all and accept things as they are. As a result, he's very calm and controlled in most situations. This makes him more mature and humble than most, despite his very youthful appearance. He tries his best at being diplomatic in social situations by being polite and well-spoken, but it's hard to do that when he's shy with a low self-esteem. Matthew doesn't have much experience in social situations. Though, he tries his best. He just can't get over the intimidation of meeting new people. He could be very paranoid when meeting new people and gets flustered over what to do in certain situations. But other than the initial contact, Matthew gets by just fine with people he meets. He's very loyal to his friends and wants nothing but be a great help to those around him. With friends his smiles are more easy going. But smiling isn't the only thing he would do for his friends. Matthew became an agent so that he could make some change and be more brave than he was before. He has a high sense of duty and a clear view of what is wrong and right. Matthew will do what he has to do, even if he doesn't want to. Although he's quiet and polite at best, Matthew is a horrible cynic at worst. Behind his soft appearance, Matthew has a surprisingly short temper. He can easily get annoyed, but normally he does not show it that much. He knows that it's not wise to act upon his feelings. But, sometimes even a saint has to swear. When he's angry, Matthew could spit venom that burns like hell fire. Oh, you do not want to get on his bad side. Ever. He rarely gets furious, but when he does it could leave you a whimpering mess. And that's just with his words. The guy can actually throw some punches. After all, he plays hockey. Matthew plays hockey to blow off some steam after going on a mission. But it doesn't solve the sleepless nights he has from bone crushing depression. Sometimes all the horrible things that happened in his life just comes back in flashes, which makes his chest hurt. He solves this with singing, but some nights it's not enough. Drunk Matthew is a different Matthew from sober Matthew. While sober, Matthew is predictable and docile. On the other hand, drunk Matthew could wake up at someone's roof after a long hard night of partying without remembering whose roof it was or whose pants he's wearing. Matthew has a low alcohol tolerance level which makes it extremely hard for him to avoid becoming drunk Matthew. Another thing about Matthew is he's an excellent singer. He's got a clear, strong voice that would make people stop and listen. He prefers to sing in small, cozy cafes or a pub. |

Music: Matthew is an excellent musician. He has a lot of spare time, due to not having many friends to hang out with, so he spends it practicing on his piano or sing. It turned out to that he could make a living out of it. He's been singing in pubs and restaurants in high school. Hockey: Matthew doesn't like hockey, he loves it. At first it was a way to be more like his brother. But then he loved it because being a hockey player defined him so much. The feeling he gets from playing hockey is unlike any other. The only reason he didn't pursue it as a career is because he didn't want to fill his brother's place. It seemed right for him to give a distance from hockey to honor his brother's memories. Cooking: Matthew loves food. Nothing beats a delicious cuisine. That's why he loves to cook. Although, for some reason, he can only make pancakes and other sweet things. The pancakes he could make are to die for, but everything else aren't so good. Polar bear: His brother gave him a polar bear charm after his first hockey game. It was supposed to be a maple leaf, but he didn't get lucky with the machine so he gave him the polar bear instead. Matthew didn't mind. It could be found hanging from a leather bracelet around his wrist. Whenever he needs assurance he would hold it in his hands and hope that things would be okay. Underdogs: He admires people were unsuspectingly amazing. They are constantly belittled by many, but still manage to come out on top. Matthew will always root for the underdog because he considers himself as one of them. | Loud noises: Being used to the quiet suburban peace, Matthew is not used to the loud city noises of London. The first weeks after his arrival Matthew had trouble sleeping. A daily dose of warm milk soon solved that problem. But he's still not to fond of loud noises. Cars: Matthew's brother died in a car crash. For him, cars are now like metal death traps that move at high speeds. He prefers any kind of transportation other than cars. or buses. If he has to ride in a car, Matthew comes prepared with a paper bag. He can get very sick. Bullies: Who doesn't hate bullies? Matthew has had his fair share of bullies from his high school days. They pick on him because he stuttered when he's nervous. It took awhile for them to be tired of their squeaky toy. Drugs: It ruins lives, destroy families, and take loved ones away. Matthew has a strong opinion on the matter and does not tolerate anyone who deals with them. |
Dreams | Fears |
Speak out: Matthew wants to be heard. He wants to find the voice that would make people turn their heads, look at him and actually listen not just when he's singing. Retire: He's still young but that thought had come across his minds too often for him to ignore. It's sort of a thing he imagines doing, when he's on a really tough job. He'd imagine that he would start a family, get old, and live the rest of his life in a house on the country side. Matthew knows he wouldn't be able to live out that dream anytime soon, but he could dream, can't he? After all, evil still prowls the streets at night and it wouldn't stop in a year or two. Go home: He never really had that much of a connection with his parents, but he misses them all the same. Although, he couldn't go home now. They seemed to have forgotten him, after the death of his brother. Showing up at their doorstep would make them remember the past. Still, if he could get a break from his job, he would love to visit his old neighborhood. | Fall in love: He can't fall in love. No matter how much he wanted to. For him falling in love would be a fatal mistake. Something, anything could go horribly wrong in his line of job. It wouldn't be fair to him or her. There might be a chance that he wouldn't be able to be there for her. Death: He's already invisible alive, let alone dead. He fears to be forgotten for good. Some nights, he would lie awake weeping about what would happen at his funeral. Would anyone be there? Would anyone even know he's dead? Matthew brushes these thoughts away. He wants to be positive with his life. Failure: Matthew's afraid that if he did anything wrong and fails at a mission, it would cause the death of many. It's exactly what he tries to prevent. One of the reasons he joined the MI6. |
Background |
Matthew grew up in the quiet suburbs of Ontario, Canada. He has a normal childhood, except for the lack of attention he got from his parents. They cared about him, but considerably much less than the amount of care and love they have for his elder brother, who was and forever will be the golden boy of the family. His elder brother was a star hockey player and excellent at everything he does from sport to academics. He's come to accept that he was the runt of the litter. The other brother with average scores, average appearance, and average everything. He couldn't really blame his parents though. Matthew can't see what could come from hate. His brother was perfect. In his high school years, he's found out that it was getting harder for him to stand out of the crowd. If he was in a movie, he would probably be one of the many extras that walk the halls. Although that didn't mean he escaped the bullies. But even they got tired of him and moved on to other more entertaining victims. He quietly yearns to be like his big brother, big and strong. That's why he tried hockey one day. It was the first time he used skates. Naturally, he fell down a couple of times. But it didn't deter him from trying again and again. Until one day he could keep up with his brother. The hockey part of playing hockey came easily for Matthew. It was then that he found out that it was just right for him. Deep down inside, he was like his brother after all, only more pocket size. He adores hockey. When he's out on the field, he doesn't feel weak. He wasn't small shy Matthew. He was number thirteen, the Zamboni. The nickname stuck after he 'wiped clean the rink' with his body slams. He was actually good at it, though not as good as his brother, but good enough to win. Matthew's brother got a scholarship from his excellence in hockey. The whole family was proud and Matthew couldn't be any prouder. His brother was a really nice easy going guy. Before he left for college, he gave Matthew a polar bear charm for his first hockey game. He still kept the charm close to his person, even when he's showering. A couple years past and soon Matthew was a college freshman. He had taken a major in music, something he's been secretly teaching himself in his bedroom. His brother was the only living being that had known about it. So Matthew wanted to show him that he's all grown up now and living on his own, but it had been getting harder and harder to contact him. His messages became shorter and less frequent. The family started to worry, but all hoped that everything was fine and that he was just busy with his studies. That is, until they had the news. He was involved in a car crash and didn't make it through. His car went up in flames only seconds after impact. It was devastating news. Especially when they were told the reason why Matthew's brother had stopped contacting them and why his car had crashed that night: he was addicted to drugs. No one knew how and why. Matthew and his parents couldn't believe it. His mother cried day and night and his father could only stand there beside her, comforting her with sweet nothings. They were still mourning for his brother, when he set out to go to London. It was for no particular reason. He just needed to get away and start a new brother-less life somewhere else. He loves his brother. He was his complete opposite, but that's why he loves him dearly. Matthew didn't know where he could find another person like that again. It was for the best. To earn a living, Matthew sang, played pianos and guitars at various places from pubs to restaurants. He had to work almost everyday, sometimes from lunch to 1 AM in the morning. It was just perfect for Matthew. He was so busy, he didn't have time to think, let alone feel. It took a while, but he's let go of his brother's sudden departure. Letting go isn't forgetting, he had to remind himself. One day he had a job, singing at a fancy rich person's party. The pay was good and it wasn't the first time he had sung at someone's party, so he had thought it was okay to take it. If he had known, he wouldn't have taken it. It turns out that the rich person was a drug dealer and the party was to celebrate a new partnership with another drug dealer. The MI6 had sent an agent to infiltrate the party and gather information to bust the two illusive criminals. Unfortunately, his cover was blown. Matthew was at the wrong place at the wrong time, but he managed to keep his cool and slip into the shadows unnoticed. He watched as the agent was fatally wounded. Matthew rushed to his aid as soon as the agent was left to die. He told Matthew everything and gave him two choices: leave or stay. The agent apologized. He said that whatever he chose, the MI6 would come for him anyway. If he survived the night. Matthew chose the former and finished what the agent had set out to do. It wasn't easy and he was nearly caught, but he got the information anyway. He went home without anyone suspecting him. That night he didn't sleep. Matthew spent it thinking about what his answer would be when the MI6 arrives. He didn't know how to contact them, but they found him anyway. The very next day the MI6 knocked on his door in the early hours of morning. The agent was right. They would come for him and Matthew was ready for them. He had found the answer to their question: yes. He went with them quietly to start the new life he wanted. And he never looked back. He hoped that with the MI6 he could prevent more people from meeting the same fate as his brother's. The training was rigorous, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He's made up his mind and he'll see it through to the end. |

'MATTIE. COME TO THE LIBRARY. ASAP. I DID SOMETHING. - AL' The note was found on his locker. Matthew was not happy. Not happy, at all. In an instant the note was reduced into a crumpled mess in the nearest trash bin; and Matthew a fuming rage ball storming down the hallway. His brother wasn't going to get piece of his mind, he's going to make sure that Alfred would get all of his mind. If he thinks Mathew is going to go along with that day's antic of the day, then he's dead wrong. And dead is the right word to describe how wrong Alfred was. Matthew knew how pissed off he looked. No one could blame him though. The poor guy had a bad day that was ridiculously unbelievable. It had been a maelstrom of unfortunate events, each happening one time, after another. He still couldn't believe that his locker door just fell of its hinges that way. It was something from a horrible, cheap high school movie. And he was the dork who was having a bad day. The note was what had cracked Matthew's saint like patience. It was with reason. Everybody knew that whenever Al 'did something'. it was most likely to involve breaking at least one or two of the academy's many policies. Most of the time, Matthew just goes along with whatever mischief his brother is up to and help him get out of trouble, but unfortunately for Alfred, Matthew's not going to do that. He rounded the corner and saw the stairs. He headed towards it. But suddenly found himself flying backwards. The cold hard floor was merciless as he landed on it. The pain on the back of his head was dull compared to the pain on his face. Matthew was pretty sure that his nose was broken. Something warm oozed down his nostrils. He knew that it was blood, but still he reached up to touch the oozing liquid and looked at it. Yup. He had been right. It was blood. "Ow," he said weakly. His head was pounding from the trauma. He looked up and noticed an open door. "Wait, that wasn't there before," he said before passing out. |
