[cs=3] Personality | ||
[cs=3] Roderich is a middle-aged man and has been dealing with middle-aged man problems since he was twenty-one. He had told himself once that he lacked focus, but that wasn't enough motivation for him to fix that aspect of himself. From this began his tendency to go about certain (if not most) things half-heartedly. He was never a man of raw emotion, but he isn't one completely made of steel. His general respect for decorum and politeness oveshadow the fact that he actually does have a personality and that he is capable of feeling, that isn't frustration over work (or anything else that a normal human could possibly fret over). He rarely shows affection of any sort, but he is much more prone to weakness, seen when he gives in and loses disposition. Should the latter not happen at any time during an exchange with another person, he might seem somewhat distant. He is picky with his words and with his people, but he is well-connected in the most professional sense. However, there are times in which he finds himself in odd connections with strange people and when he deems it necessary, he might exploit them for his own personal (mostly financial) gain. At times like this, he compares his situation to choosing between pulling the band-aid off slowly or swiftly. His innerself is active and speaks volumes more than he does and he is keenly aware of his lack of openness, but you really can't peg him as the silent type. He is a very "inward" person and has a bad habit of seeing himself above others without meaning to. In this regard, he might treat some people with much hostility at first rather than hospitality. He doesn't readily welcome things in his life for that reason. At times, he loses his sense of responsibility towards other people in light of his own needs, making him selfish and ironically, not as self-aware as one would think he is if they knew how much time he spent just thinking. He is also very pessimistic. Still, after thirty years of living, not at a lot has changed. He was always a homebody by nature, preferring to be around the arts, freshly baked goods and music. He is confident in his tastes, and more so in his music but he is modest and chooses only to play in front of friends or relatives. Close enough to him, one can pick up the way he sometimes describes situations using classical music and he stops saying his opinions about his interests in jest. With that music comes his great tendency (and perhaps almost his only one) to become romantic. He is a man of skill and is highly kinesthetic, working with his hands better --someone had joked about his needing glasses as a result of his skill. A give and take sort of thing with his body. In retrospect, Roderich isn't complicated and in fact, people who manage to get close enough may view him as the predicable sort. He walks with his back straight and his eyes rarely see the ground below his feet. (Fun fact: he binge drinks when his stress levels rise to above average heights.) | ||

Music: Roderich knows how to play a number of instruments, is well-trained at the piano but partial to the sound of a violin. He is enthusiastic about conversations that revolve around music and he often wonders why he never pursued a career related to it. Baking: He loves pastries and he is very skilled at making them. This will be the only time he allows himself to get dirty but even then, he still tries to keep a clean kitchen. Sweets: In line with the above mentioned, he loves sweet food. Very much so. Smoking: He makes such a big deal out of this when people find out, not wanting his "image" to be "tarnished" --but really, only his closest friends know. He uses smoking as a means to wind down and since he picked it up, hasn't let it go. However, he only manages to smoke a few sticks a day. His younger years were much worse. Arts: Something he appreciates greatly. He enjoys visiting museums, alone or with a companion. It doesn't really matter to him. He sometimes goes out of the way to view private exhibits of artists, even in the shadiest of places. Punctuality: Time is important to him. Time is gold. Time is...something he sometimes realizes he has wasted much of. Being able to relax: Believe it or not, he tries to get a lot of down time. | Spending: Or so he likes to tell himself. Sometimes, he goes out of the way to buy baking goods and instruments (even art!) but that doesn't he mean he can't give himself a pat on the back for buying those curtains at half price. Removing his glasses: Not being able to see much makes him feel weakened. Loud disturbances: He plays his music at moderate, humanly acceptable levels. Something changes inside of him if he hears loud rock music coming from next door. It annoys him enough to exit his personal bubble. Fighting: People say it's because he's more bark than bite. It's true. People use guns now and he might accidentally shoot his foot if he tried. Being woken up unexepectedly: Especially if you're not his alarm and do it only if you have good reason. Being teased: He does it to other people but he hates it on himself. | Going deaf: Music is integral in his life. Take hearing it away and you have less of him than you intially started with, which isn't much. Going bankrupt: Roderich, despite his showy nature when it comes to the arts and music, is very financially insecure. Which is why he is very proud of those curtains. Dying: He has yet to figure out what he truly wants to do --that or he has to find the courage to pursue it. Missed opportunities: He always gets a poignant sense of loss after making a decision. Not getting married: Part of his mid-life crisis, probably. He's dated around a lot but has yet to settle down, but this stays in the back of his mind for he has other things to worry about, like his duties to the government. |

[cs=3] History |
[cs=3] Born in Austria to a baker and a piano tuner who specialized in Erards, it could be said that Roderich was destined to be very skilled in both. He was surrounded by freshly baked goods very early in the morning and to the sound of finely tuned pianos after his father was done with a project. He was a small town boy and his family earned just enough money for the three of them. All three of them were old-fashioned by nature. He didn't have a lot of friends in High School and kept mostly to his studies and learning new instruments. On his days off from school, he would help his mother out and she would teach him how to work a kitchen under the premise that he would need this later on to meet women (and eventually bring one home with him for his parents to meet). He went through teenage angst, he was moody, he did things he wished he didn't do, he picked up habits he couldn't drop. Despite not having a lot of people who were close to him in school, his childhood was not a sad one. Roderich never really considered it much of a tragedy, because he rationalized the situation, thinking that it was due time since his father was old anyway. He was in High School when his father got sick and could no longer move from point A to point B, let alone make it down the stairs to his workshop. He closed it down and the income was generated mostly from the bakery. His parents refused to let him work until he finished school. This compelled him to study harder, to reach the top of his class. Later, he took part in an exchange program, continuing his studies in London. He was still in good terms with his parents before he left, speaking of putting up a cafe, perhaps having them move there if things turned out well. It only soured after his father put a damper on that notion, telling him that where they were right now was home. Perhaps it was Roderich becoming accustomed to globalization and perhaps it was because he was younger that he could not understand where his father was coming from with his reasoning. They needed the money and here he was ready to work for it, going to a place where he could earn it. That conversation was the last time they spoke. He only returned home after his father's death while he was in his early twenties, but immediately went back to London, referring to it, in front of his own mother as "home" instead --which merited a slap in the face. Roderich still sends money back to her, money which he knows she doesn't use, as much as she would need it. His relatives back home write to him about how sick she is now and often times, he gets the urge to go back but puts that off for work. He felt that he could tell no one about what went on in his head between the time his father became ill and his moving to London. For the most part, he was confused and up to this very day, he still is. His studies however, did not meet with as much disappointment and was something he managed to focus on (almost to a fault). He graduated with grades that obtained him a spot in the M16. He joined them after graduating and worked there as a consultant. He never really saw the "battle field" but he managed to meet several people. After five years, he left to pursue a career in law, thinking that his services were of better use in the government. He is now part of The Crown Prosecution Service and works there as a solicitor, signing litigations and whatnot. He has been invited to run for public office but has declined. |
