After some twenty or odd years of knowing Arthur Kirkland, Francis Bonnefoy asked him to marry him.
You think it would be an extremely romantic gesture, yes? Of course it was; everything that Francis does is romantic. However, it was not nearly as incredible or awe-inspiring as Francis had once dreamed it to be. No, because of that cursed MI6 keeping Arthur on such a short leash and perhaps a small bit of impatience on Francis’s part, he had deemed it appropriate to ask for Arthur’s hand in marriage through AESTHETIC missions, out of all things. Using the online network to communicate quietly with little hassle with Arthur had proven to be useful, as Francis didn’t often had the opportunity to meet up with him in public without drawing potential suspicion to his civilian identity.
Maybe he was just a bit paranoid – but then again, he was the creator of a universal Internet group that allowed people to wreak havoc.
Despite the shameful fact that the proposal had not occurred in person with Francis getting down on his knees, pulling out a ring, having a whole speech, etc. etc. etc. with all the works, he liked to think that he still at least made a significant moment. It was unfortunate that he hadn’t been there to see Arthur’s reaction personally; out of everything, that was certainly what he regretted the most out of the entire questionability of the situation.
But now, he was waiting for Arthur to arrive in this specifically rented hotel room in the Fortuna Magnus Casino. It was easier to meet at a disposable place using cash rather than a card to trace payment, or risk someone finding out his current home address. There were a variety of factors that Francis had to consider with these weekly meetings with Arthur, and yes, maybe he should have tried to wait to propose, but he couldn’t help it. It was the anniversary of them deciding to begin a romantic relationship from all of those years ago, and asking several days later was out of the question. The envelope that he had passed along to Arthur had a rather embellished letter, something that Francis had worked quite hard on, along with a ring. Unconventional, yes, but still romantic in its own way.
He was seated in the hotel room, on the single king bed that resided square in the center of the room. They said that patience was a virtue, but it was never Francis’s particular specialty. As he waited for Arthur to arrive after checking his phone’s digital clock, he opened the app for AESTHETIC and began to scroll through the activity feed. He still had a little time to kill, after all.
