Francis is what one might call an enigma. His agenda is never exactly clear to anyone but him, and despite appearing to be one of the most open people around, Francis hides his true self behind a heavily embellished veil. He is a man who puts on a show by disappearing behind a polished mask of wry and teasing smiles; it is a rarity for him to display his full self in a genuine manner to see at any one point in time. There are bits and pieces that shine through often enough, but never ever will Francis allow himself to be subjected to such exposure – especially in his position. It is much easier to be what others want, and as a leader, he molds himself to be what others desire. His charms are most certainly one of his strong points. He's rather suave and urbane, and appears as one who is constantly flirting with anyone he converses with; which is really not always the case. Francis is what people would call an “extensive lover”, with his way of speaking. He does not like, nor dislike the term. He considers himself polyamorous, as he can love multiple people at once, and believes in all forms of love (except for forced love). He has had a large record of one-night stands when younger. However, every single person he has ever spent one night with in the past is important and special to him. He hasn’t forgotten a single face, and is quite skilled at remembering people. His ability to woo can also be used in a more sinister way; Francis isn't against utilizing manipulation in the least. Seduction is a legitimate possibility, using honeyed words and lidded eyes to persuade others into doing what he wants them to. His charisma allows him to be a natural leader, and draw followers through tonal lilts and flirtatious compliments. It isn't terribly difficult to encourage people to complete objectives for him, particularly through the use of AESTHETIC. On few occasions, his kind smiles can be sincere – often, however, they are be lovely simpers to disarm you. Francis has a jealousy problem. He constantly praises and compliments others about their beauty, for who they are and occasionally aids in their love life if asked or needed. But he also has a want to be complimented too, and praising others so grandly typically makes him feel worse about himself. Quite often, he’s envious about how great and incredible others are, while he appears lesser and nothing in comparison. He tends to hide it very well, and very few people actually know of his true feelings about the matter. His envy stretches to further lengths of seeing other people's happiness in comparison -- wishing he didn't, but unable to do anything about it. Francis is the type who would be extremely pleased if his feelings of love and affection were ever to be requited. He’s one who feels love very powerfully, and his affections are strong. He often gives kisses to show affection, but rarely are they what he considers a kiss of true love. It can make him the happiest man in the world if he finds out the person he likes returns his feelings, although he may not show it publicly (by unconsciously slipping into his usual flirtatious mode). Although not obvious to mere acquaintances, close friends are highly valued. Francis's morals are not shared with most typical civilians; boredom is a common problem that plagues him, and Francis much prefers to stir up a situation rather than do nothing at all. Crime simply happened to becomes a convenient and intriguing way for Francis to explore his potential, through the use of strategic gaming. It's a lot like chess, he's found, and using people to accomplish his dirty work has never been much of an issue. He is not one to sully his own hands, and prefers to use other people instead. Utilizing others as pawns is much easier, and through such a big network, it's not as if identifying the creator of AESTHETIC is a simple task. When Francis genuinely cares for a person, his attitude and general morals shift. He is much more likely to be legitimately pleased in such company, and he tends to open up his true side of being a relatively empathetic and loving human being. There are multiple ways to tell that Francis likes you: 1. multiple kisses, 2. uniquely designated terms of endearment rather than simply "cher" for example, and 3. offers advice like an older brother. It's not as if the list of Francis's true friends is terribly short, but it isn't exactly a lengthy one, either. |

✔ romance ;; Francis adores all aspects of romance and is a romantic among romantics. The countless stories throughout humanity's existence of love are always beautiful, built upon romanticism and as cliché as it sounds, the power of love and what it can do for people. Emotions are a critical part of humans and their lives -- love, extremely prominent -- and he finds it all fascinating. He likes the notion of people being able to be in each other's company, offering solace and comfort, and the image of two hands, entwined together. Romance is, of course, not something necessary in the least for a person to be happy, but it is something that Francis personally enjoys. ✔ beauty ;; he loves anything and everything beautiful -- which is, essentially, the world. Francis can see the beauty in nearly everything he lays eyes on, and he appreciates what he sees -- whether it's physical, personality, or anything else that it could possibly be. He's drawn to beauty like ants to sugar, and he enjoys savoring the beauty he finds. Beauty is subjective, depending on the beholder; however, Francis looks for the best that he can in people. ✔ giving advice ;; he has a bad habit of interfering with other people's problems, but he has good intentions. Francis likes being able to help people by offering them advice -- usually romantic -- but it can come in any other forms too. It's part of his natural tendency to take on the role of a big brother figure, and he can't help but to offer assistance with a problem if he hears about one. He has a tendency to meddle in affairs where he doesn’t necessarily belong. ✔ cooking ;; a favorite past time of his. Francis is a creative person in his own right, and his most successful way of expressing himself is most certainly cooking. He takes great pleasure in making something – creating something, and then being able to serve it those he loves. He thinks the best part of the whole procedure is being able to watch people enjoy his food with a smile on their face. ✔ symbolism ;; symbolism is fairly significant for him, especially as a self-declared romantic. As a child, he liked to observe things such as flowers. He's fluent in the language of flowers, and loves how they all mean and represent different messages. His favorite flowers are roses. ✔ physical affection ;; Francis is a very affectionate person -- and one who relishes in receiving affection returned. His personal preference is to be able to show his love for those he cares about by being able to pat their head or back, hugging them, or giving them a kiss on the forehead or cheek. He's a very open man with his love and hands it out just as openly -- but that doesn't make it mean any less. ✔ endearments ;; particularly French endearments. Like how Francis is fond of displaying affection for those close to him with physical contact, endearments are another form of affection. Words are powerful, depending on how a person uses them -- and he chooses to use them with cherishment for his loved ones. ✔ fashion ;; he likes to keep up with the latest trends. Fashion is a way of personal expression, and allows people to demonstrate the sort of person who they are with their own style. It's another romanticized notion of his. Under the category of advice giving, fashion is included -- Francis loves helping people to be able to express themselves in a physical sense too. ✔ poetry ;; the way that words can be used to form sentences, to paragraphs, to chapters, to books, and to more has always intrigued Francis. Words can be molded to create something truly alluring and wonderful, and poetry is his favorite genre of writing -- particularly prose poetry. They're small fragments of potential that drag you in, mesmerizing you, before cutting you right off at the end, wanting more. It's a lovely cycle Francis doesn't mind being trapped in. ✔ intellectual conversation ;; having small talk and mundane conversation is perfectly fine, but Francis particularly enjoys having deeper talks. He doesn't really think of himself as philosophical, but anyone else might say otherwise. Conversations of how the world came to be, how humans came into existence, of emotions, human nature, equality, hypocrisy, and any other topic that comes up related. He always likes those conversations the best. ✔ france ;; the land and the culture are beautiful. It possesses its own endearing charm that causes many to come and visit throughout every season of the year. He's particularly proud that it's known as the country of love, and loves everything about France. He prefers his native language over all others, and as a result, often slips French words into his normal speaking patterns. He doesn't do it in an overabundance as to annoy people, but he just adores the way the words roll of his tongue. ✔ technology ;; probably the most prominent hobby Francis has is experimenting with computers, coding, and the like. When he first began playing with various pieces of technology, he hadn’t been very fond of it, but it quickly grew on him – at first, it wasn’t necessarily a choice, as his parents pressured him to learn. As he learned and gradually became more adept at polishing his technological skills, he developed his own space through programming. | ✖ unfaithful people ;; Francis does not condone adultery. He refuses to partake in anything related with it. Love is a bond of trust between people, and that trust is violated if infidelity occurs. If he sees such blasphemy, he'll put a stop to it. Although his moral compass is not necessarily the most accurate one, cheating is one thing he will not permit. ✖ flaws ;; simply put, he's a perfectionist. Francis doesn't like making mistakes or having blemishes. Flaws are imperfections, and therefore irritates him. He's quite aware they're impossible not to have, but they're still universally present; which is really irksome. ✖ ignorance ;; he prefers to converse with people who observe and are acutely aware of their surroundings. He dislikes ignorant people and those who are too egotistical or obnoxious to be truly intelligent. He also dislikes when they have the opportunity to be smart and still choose not to. ✖ purchasing cheap things ;; this is most certainly a personal preference -- many people are usually the opposite. Francis doesn't like appearing to be cheap by barely spending any money, and prefers to use his money generously. He treats people often as possible to gifts and going out, and likes spending money on people. ✖ limitations ;; Francis doesn't like being restricted. Being an empathetic person, he dislikes it when other people are limited as well -- one particular reason he cannot stand the lack of equality, and people being suppressed. It angers him every time he thinks about it, resulting in frustration, and further causes him to strive for equality of people everywhere – although, perhaps not in the most orthodox of ways. |

► to be able to with Arthur Kirkland freely ;; Francis Bonnefoy and Arthur Kirkland have a history. And seeing as Arthur is currently employed by the MI6 and Francis is what one would consider lawless, it becomes a tragedy akin to Romeo and Juliet. Francis has been utilizing missions to learn as much as possible surrounding Arthur's situation, such as his current partner, his objective, and other useful information from the MI6. Essentially, his goal is to free Arthur from his glorified prison. ► to expand AESTHETIC ;; as an online organization, AESTHETIC has grown exponentially since its initial launch. However, there's always room for progress and evolution, and Francis is to curious as to how far its reach can extend across the world. There are seven billion people, after all. ► to destroy the MI6 ;; Francis has a grudge in particular against the MI6. They are the ones who are holding Arthur captive, essentially, and it's clear that Arthur dislikes it. The MI6 also tend to interfere with AESTHETIC at times, and he does not appreciate it. Besides, toying with the agents always provides opportunities for missions for his members. | ► arguments ;; a person who tends to shy away from conflict, Francis has a strong aversion to arguments. He tends to try to soothe over any rough patches and is more likely to sweep things under the rug if that will solve an on-going issue. ► losing those he cares about ;; when Francis becomes attached to someone, he is deeply attached. The ones he loves are the most important to him -- more than anything else in the world has to offer -- and he's fearful of losing people who are precious to him. Francis centers his life around the people he becomes enamored with; only a select group, but not necessarily a small one. The possibility he can lose those who he loves is the most terrifying to him of all. ► rejection ;; rejection of his feelings cuts deeper than any physical wound ever could. Loving somebody is a risk, and can be very painful -- but rejection is the worst of all. Francis has never been one to be shy about his feelings, but it doesn't mean it hurts any less when somebody rejects him. He's actually quite sensitive, especially when it's emotional pain. He won't show it initially, but it's likely he'll spend a long time crying in private. ► being caught ;; as the leader of an unusual version of organized crime through the use of the Internet and technology, Francis is well aware of the potential consequences of having AESTHETIC dismantled. It’s currently a subtle concern, as tracing the source is not exactly easy for simply anyone to do – as well as having a couple of commanders underneath him. |
Background |
Francis Bonnefoy had a relatively mundane childhood. Single child, both parents present, etc. etc. He experienced the lesson of death at a young age in the form of his dear cat, Rose, and attended school everyday as expected. He was nudged specifically towards technology, however, and despite initial resistance, Francis reluctantly began to pursue coding, electronics, and general technology in a serious manner. He was able to obtain his neighbor's wifi connection password by the age of nine through hacking -- not that his parents knew that particular bit. He was not a prodigy in the least; he simply worked hard to meet his parents' expectations, and learned the best to his ability -- although technology and Francis seemed to have a mutual dislike for each other, in the beginning. The relationship started to bloom, slowly but surely, as Francis dedicated a majority of his free time handling electronics. His relationships with friends remained relatively steady, and many were fascinated by his skills with technology. There was one relationship in particular, however, that Francis greatly cherished. The Bonnefoys and the Kirklands were quite good friends; as a result, it is understandable that they wanted their children to share a similar bond. Francis and Arthur had a two year age difference, and while Francis created decent relationships with Arthur's siblings, there was something special about Arthur. It began with general animosity, quite similar to how Francis and technology first viewed each other; but as time went on, Francis found himself trusting Arthur with secrets that he would never tell anyone else. Being completely 100% honest is a terrifying prospect -- and yet, Francis could be with Arthur. Before he knew it, Francis had the epiphany that he was in love with Arthur. Of course, this was something that he did not want to share with Arthur. He was afraid of sacrificing the bond that they had now by bringing up romantic feelings, especially when he had no idea if Arthur would even consider requiting them. It was anxiety-inducing, but it was unsurprisingly Arthur who brought an end to these doubts with a confession during their high school years. They had previously experimented with each other sexually in years before during the height of puberty, but there was no reason to believe that sex and romance had any correlation for Arthur. And so, the happiest period in Francis's life began. When Francis turned twenty, eighteen year old Arthur joined an anarchist group. Francis suspects it has to do with a rebellious phase (not that he would ever tell his boyfriend that to his face), but Arthur easily became involved in a variety of lawless activities. At first, Francis was not entirely sure what to think; however, when Arthur encouraged him to experiment by crossing the thin line of legal and illegal, Francis found it to be somewhat of a thrill. He had had an idea for a mobile app and website for a while, after partaking in some of the group's acts. It would be a game, basically: people could easily join by providing some general information such as name, age, gender identity, contact information, and creating a username and password. There were numerical ranks, and everyone began at Lv. 1. In order to grow to the next level, players were required to earn points. Points could be obtained through the successful completion of missions. Examples of missions include: 1. find a person wearing glasses and ask whether or not they use contacts, 2. obtain a piggy bank, fill it with pennies, and break it, 3. rob a donut shop by taking only jelly-filled donuts, and so on. There are a large variety of missions, and they range from relatively harmless to more serious objectives such as murdering a specific person. It is a game that absolutely anyone can play; harder tasks are worth more points, and as people gain rank, it becomes more difficult to level up without taking on serious missions. The app automatically gathers information from its users, occasionally turning on the camera of the mobile device and recording without the user noticing. The highest ranking members are given AI units downloaded into their devices. It is not easy to discover Francis's identity as the creator of the application, and crime rates have noticeably increased following its release to the general public when Francis was twenty-two. Thus, AESTHETIC was born. Four years have passed since then. Upgrades are frequent as the world shifts and evolves, and new missions are assigned daily. When Francis was twenty-four, Arthur Kirkland was given an ultimatum of ratting out his anarchist group to MI6 -- and he took it. Following the dismantling of the group, Arthur was enlisted by the MI6, rather than be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. This event absolutely infuriated Francis; no longer could he be openly with his lover for a multitude of reasons. It also become clear that Arthur was not happy with this development himself, and Francis from then on vowed to free him. Through the use of missions, he has a chain of telephone in order to contact Arthur subtly. It has been effective enough for Francis to even propose to the man, as unorthodox as it might seem, but Francis is nothing if not dedicated. And now, as a twenty-six year old, Francis resides in a modest flat in London, England. Perhaps some would be struck with disbelief at how close he's located to the MI6 headquarters; Francis himself finds it amusing that the MI6 is this incompetent. He lives a fairly accommodating life, and has no lack of success. As AESTHETIC continues to flourish, and so will he. |

On such a bleak day with nothing to do, money to spend, and time to waste, Francis found himself slowly climbing the steps of the Victoria and Albert Museum. But it was free admission anyways; he wouldn’t have any use for his money, though he wasn’t complaining. Yet the time was nearing closer and closer to noon, and perhaps he would treat himself to a nice restaurant today. Whether he did or whether he didn’t depended on the chances of him finding a suitable person to join him. As he glanced around the nearly empty museum, however, he felt himself grow rather disappointed. There was barely anyone around, except for the children on a field trip and a few weary staff members in various rooms. But once again, he wasn’t complaining. He didn’t mind the peace and tranquility that the museum offered on this dreary weekday. It was very lonely. And so, Francis still looked about for a possible companion, expectations low, but hopes quite high. Yet the only people that seemed to be around were too young, too elderly, or too busy. It was quite disappointing. An abandoned slip of paper laying on the ground, perhaps from a notebook, caught his eye, and he picked it up. There were no marks on the front, and when he flipped it to examine the other side, the back was just as bare and blank as its other half. He shrugged to himself, and pocked it. His shoes, the soles damp from walking around outside, made very unflattering noises on the tiled floors, and echoed in the large hallways. He winced every time he took a step, willing for the sounds to cease, and wishing he had taken just a bit longer to wipe his shoes on the carpet at the entrance. In hopes of muffling the infuriating noises, he slipped into the nearest room to sit down on a bench and wait for them to dry. He had plenty of time for this, and really didn’t feel that hungry yet; he had had a relatively filling breakfast. As he sat down, he glanced around curiously at his surroundings. Grand, intricate styled tapestries embellished the museum’s walls; some older, antique furniture placed beside it. Multi-colored and equally elegantly crafted stained glass also decorated the room. Francis marveled at the beauty of all of the objects, quite enraptured, and quickly found himself falling in love with them. He was beginning to remember what it was like to visit museums (it had been months – perhaps even years), and the pure rush of pleasure he felt from seeing such brilliantly preserved items from history. He then took the time to observe the occupants in the room. A youthful woman stood studying a painting, and an older man with brown hair sat on a bench quite a distance away from him. Closer, though, was another man, also quite young – probably around the same age as Francis himself – sitting the closest to him, perhaps approximately a meter or so away. With a rather average body build and being quite slim, he had sandy blonde hair, obviously combed, but still looked to be a bit disheveled. He had piercing, intelligent green eyes, and immediately Francis was enamored. His heart began to beat faster. They were stunning; the most pleasing shade of green he had ever seen in his life. He had seen many, many pairs of eyes before, but they were nothing in comparison to this man’s. Yet, at the same time, they were almost familiar in a way. The next feature Francis could clearly notice while facing him at a side view was his abnormally thick eyebrows, furrowed in seemingly deep concentration at a suit of armor in front of him. They would have been completely wondrous if Francis hadn’t seen them before. But alas, he had. Besides recognizing the man as Arthur Kirkland, leader of the Labour Party and member of the Parliament from London’s finest newspapers, he also recognized his particular eyebrow trait. Iain Stuart-Kirkland and Aoife O’Neil, two dear friends of his, both possessed it and he had always been just the slightest bit amused by the thick lines of hair above their also green (but distinctly different from Arthur’s and each other’s) eyes. At first, the large eyebrows had been quite disgruntling, but he soon had grown rather fond of them. Being a politician’s son, Francis had grown up being taught to always learn the current events of the country and the world daily. So of course it was no surprise that he would be able to discern the head of the Labour Party with his distinct features; his eyes, his face, his stature, and especially the way he held himself with dignity and pride, even while studiously examining the medieval display in front of him. His interest was piqued. Ever so casually, he moved over towards the other man, also turning to study the impressive suit of armor, until he was only several inches away. He composed himself, not exactly nervous – no, that certainly wasn’t the right word to describe what he was feeling. Anxious and apprehensive were merely synonyms for nervous… But overall, he was simply curious about Arthur Kirkland. He obviously enjoyed the art the museum held; otherwise, he wouldn’t be there. Now Francis faced a fork in the path: how to begin the conversation? Suave, urbane, and possibly overbearing; or casual, relatively mild-mannered, and appearing to make small talk? He considered both options for a brief moment, before settling on the former. While he wanted to make a good first impression, he also wanted to make a memorable one. ”Hello, monsieur,” he began easily, a charming smile placed delicately upon his face, “You have the most beautiful green eyes I have ever had the good fortune to see in my humble life. They glow with such a brilliant, stunning light; I am nearly blinded as I gaze into them now.” |
