Yvain “Yvaine” Mikkelsen Hi I'm Yvain. Yeah, I know it is a guy's name but my mom really liked it. I am guess you can say that I am a scientist. I love working in the lab, I get paid for mixing chemicals all day. The best thing about my job is that I get paid to harass my co-workers. I plan to take over Q's job when he retires, I am kidding! I guess the most important thing about me would be I love sailing and the sea is my kingdom (well more like the river anyway) but don't tell anyone I said that. |

(+)Fair: She tries to be fair for reasons special reasons. She just wants to do what is right, and not for reasons affiliated with divinity. She is convinced that all humans have encrypted code of morality in their hearts, and she wants to be as good and fair as she can be. (+/-)Honest: It is hard to come off as good when you are honest. Especially when Yvain wants to be rude, she may find a good excuse to be rude, and she does not have to use bad words to insult you. Of course this does not mean Yvain is rude, Yvain will just be sincere because despite that might be costly it turns out to be for the better in the long run. (+/-) Carefree or Irresponsible?: Shoot yeah. Well Yvain does not worry, she considers a lot of things as little to worry about. Life should be a celebration. There is a solution for almost every problem except death. Sometimes she can be irresponsible. Very irresponsible. But Yvain considers it a gift. (+/-/?)Childish: She is childlike, always with a smile on her face. Yvain knows she is childish and she is aware of some of her facets. For example when hurt or worried about something Yvain will grow unusually quiet, like a child who did something wrong, or who is up to mischief but Yvain is not looking for mischief. Another example of her childish nature will be her need for attention, she loves attention, except this is something Yvain is not completely aware of. Yvain will also act like a child when she is sick and depending on how sick she is she will lose her cool, or mildly complain she knows that this flaw is not much of a good thing. (+)Mature: Yvain is still mature in a sense that for instance no matter how bad the day or how bad the criticism she can handle it quite well and will not let it affect her work, or her day. This does not mean that it does not hurt sometimes. Of course this includes insults, but this does not mean that Yvain may not retaliate. (?)Eccentric?: For example she sometimes may not be able to tell when a person is insulting her. She has a tendency to overlook a lot of things… it is like her brain is wired differently you will read the same sentence she is reading and you may get the main idea, but she won’t get it until she rereads the sentence twice or three times perhaps. No she is not stupid, or dumb, she just has a different perspective. (-)Deviously (+)Kind: This is the weirdest trait that this girl possess, how can a person be deviously kind? Well it is possible with Yvain, she is the type of person who can do good, while doing bad, and she does not exactly get away with it, well sometimes she does, but when she doesn't the costs will come at her expense. (+)Self-concious: Yvain is aware of her bad traits as much as her good ones, which is useful for improvement as well as for self-control, a man or woman who learns to control him or herself is stronger or greater than an army. (+)Good Humored: Yvain is almost always happy. Thus she will be a little bit loud and talkative she may make witty observations on purpose sometimes. It is kind of hard to put her out of this good mood, not impossible just hard. (+/-)Sensitive: She cannot hide her emotions much in fact her normal facial expression is a smile, well most of the time. Her expression tends to get serious when she is thinking or working on something. You will be able to see through her face most of the time, when she gets sad or hurt it is highly noticeable. If you gain Yvain's trust she will open up and allow you to see deeper into her soul. (?)Religious: She is Christian Lutheran, and she does not intend to stop believing. Of course she does not squish this into the face of men, she will most of the time keep it quiet but if you ask her if she is religious she will not object and she will openly tell you more about her beliefs if you ask. (+/-) Authoritative: She gets this way when dealing with pushy people, she is not afraid of an angry face or an angry glare. She will become authoritative and stern when she has to be, sometimes being authoritative is the only way to get a person to behave. (-)Loud: This is counter-productive most of the time. Yvain is loud. She loves to raise her voice and sometimes this is deeply intertwined with her exaggerated nature. She just loves attention. (-)Button-pusher: When Yvain likes a person a lot... and i mean a lot. She can be almost be annoying or obnoxious. Of course she will become this way on purpose, it is only temporary. She may annoy the hell out of a person by pushing their buttons. She just has this sardonic pleasure of seeing someone in distress, sometimes. (-)Exaggerating: Yvain tends to exaggerate things it is just the way she is with her personality. She will sometimes exaggerate on purpose of course to see if she what type of reaction she will get from some person. (+/-) People pleaser?: Well to a certain level. She likes to keep and make people she likes happy. The people she does not like she will just not really give a damn care about them. (-) Insecure?: Yvain hides most of her feelings under this mask of exaggerated lies. Like a kid she will boast when she is completely scared, will try and remain stoic when a person actually hurt her feelings, just because she is afraid of what people will think of her. She is not madly insecure but she is insecure to a certain level. |

De-stressing: She loves to de-stress. After a fight happens in which she decides not to intervene, she tends to walk away to a quiet or calm place, in order to release her tension. Peace loving Yvain likes to participate in a a lot of relaxing activities, one of them just sitting and observing. Art: She loves oil paintings, pastels and also charcoals. She loves more Impressionist art, she does enjoy Renaissance art but not as much, her favorite paintings are of boats, and mighty ships. Yvain especially loves colorful paintings, of majestic sunrises. Resolving conflict: She likes to be a peacemaker standing in the way to keep people from getting hurt, or to keep people from fighting, it does not mean that she is not likely to get hurt. Sailing: She loves everything and anything to do with sailing. Boats, beaches, anything. Yvain loves the idea of sailing and going to new places and seeing the sunset on the waves every morning. Captain of her boat. Independent. Queen of the seas. Adopting people: She wishes to have a younger brother or sister, so she tends to sort of adopt people into her family. Basically when Yvain finds someone she adores she calls them ‘little brother’ or ‘big brother’ or ‘little or big sister’ depending on her whims, or how she sees them. Reading: Yvain loves reading, she gathers information most of the time about psychology, science, and a good mystery book or two, Yvain enjoys reading myths and folklore because she believes that they were once true to a certain extent. Meatballs: Her favorite food. In fact anything with meatballs sounds delicious to Yvain, she carries a small plastic bag of meatballs in her purse. She loves them warm with maybe a little bit of sauce, and tends to blend spices into them whenever she makes them. Pastries: Sweet yummy pastries. With a bit of cream and a nice cup of milk or coffee, tend to make her day. She can bake a good batch of muffins by the way. | Stressful situations: When something is too stressful or tense she tends to run away. Yvain tries to make sure problems never escalate to this point. That does not mean Yvain can not handle the stress. Negativity: If you tend to complain about a lot of things, and I mean complain a lot if you tend to say no, no no to anything and everything. You may very well fit into this category. Going hungry for long periods of time: Yvain has a high dislike of going hungry, she enjoys food. Yvain is aware that if she goes hungry for a really long time she becomes moody, and her thinking becomes unclear, thus it is harder to have good judgement when you are starving. Silence: Mostly her own. Her own silence is what bothers her. She tends to feel bad when she can't fix or stop a fight from occurring; or when she feels she should have said something and she didn't. Most of her emotional conflicts come from not saying things. Going too far to open sea: She is still getting over her fear, and her past. She tries to do things one step at a time, she does enjoy sailing, but going too far into open sea makes her nervous, she prefers to go with a buddy. |
Dreams | Fears |
Being free of her fear: She wants to be completely free of her fear of sailing the open seas because she wants to one day sail to America and other lands. Japan being one of them on her extensive list. Public Relations Specialist: She is studying for this currently, and is doing well so far. Yvain wants to land a job in the government after studying this. She wants to become a specialist, and hopes to earn good money from it. Build her own boat: She is gaining an obsession, with boat materials. She wants the best materials for her 'baby', she has only crossed off a few items from her long list of boat materials, but her range of items to acquire is gradually decreasing. | Her compass getting broken: It is kind of scary after Yvain got lost at sea once she does not plan to do it again. She just makes sure her compass is working perfectly before every trip to the sea. Yvain never goes to far off shore. Dying in rough weather: She does not really think it could happen. But it is a fear of hers. Especially with what happened to friend. It is a surprise she can even get on a boat. Losing her strength of mind: When you are out in the ocean or in the wilderness you cannot let yourself get worried, it is just you alone, you depend on yourself to survive. Yvain does not want to get to the point where she feels like giving up because things look hopeless. |
Background |
Yvain was born to wealthy parents so she was always a privileged child. Of course mom and dad gave her little things she wanted this didn't seem to make her spoiled but it did give her a demanding side that did not appear until years later. Yvain loved swimming and sailing her father would take her sailing with him on his boat, and he gradually taught her about sailing. Yvain grew a love for sunsets and was getting wet along the shore most of the time. As time progressed Yvain was becoming known for causing fights as much as she would resolve them. Her parents still tried to mellow down Yvain's rambunctious nature, and tried to give her a good upbringing. Yvain was well loved by her parents but as time grew on her parents could barely be around and handed her over to nannies and maids, of course her parents tried to be there for her whenever they could but well it was life, you could not have everything you wanted. Yvain entered school and after two or three grades was soon considered the golden child among her peers, Yvain brought home good grades and smiles to her parents faces. Yvain was friendly and was most of the time looking for an end to fights, and was trying to solve problems, most of the time calling certain people ‘her little brother or sister’. Still Yvain sometimes came off as obnoxious or annoying to her peers, but they could put up with it. But in junior high being the golden child came with its own little charge. At first the bullying was subtle and psychological aimed at hurting her feelings and Yvain did not know how to respond to it. Of course Yvain began to ignore the bullying but that did not make it stop. Junior high was a little different her parents were not at home much. She couldn't complain, and had no once to share her feelings with it seemed like the children got away with calling her the 'teachers pet'. But Yvain hated the feeling of impotence, the feeling of not being able to do anything. That was when Yvain began to retaliate, and make demands. Of course being only juveniles one could only expect what would happen next, the bullying began to turn into confrontations, with Yvain begin the smartest cat. Of course the confrontations got brutal. I forgot to mention Yvain was kind of a nerd with a scrawny psychic still that did not stop her from throwing punches at her perpetrators. Yvain began to stand up to the bullies for random reasons and in some cases came in other peoples defense. This began to earn her a small group of friends, girls or boys who were happy someone stood up to defend them. Of course Yvain's parents were not home much so Yvain sort of got away with it, until school counselors were finally able to contact her parents did Yvain receive a short suspension and Yvain was placed into boarding school for a short time. Yain took to sailing a lot during those years and on a random occasion she took two friends sailing on a short trip. It was just for fun. Yain and her friends were found a week later on a small island off the coast, her boat ship wrecked, Yvain and only one of her friends survived. Apparently they got lost at sea but were lucky enough to be spotted by search and rescue teams. Yvain suffered scratches bruises and a bit of hypothermia but recovered gradually. The other girl had a broken arm, minor scratches she also had bit of hypothermia, but she also recovered. Her third friends body was discovered a day later. Yvain seemed well for the most part but her mind became distant and dim. She no longer wanted to study science and she also gradually stopped sailing. At one point in between all the bullying, and personal guilt Yvain caved in. She just couldn't stop feeling guilty for all the things that went wrong, and she felt responsible for forcing her friend to come sailing. But she also felt responsible for her death. Yvain couldn't bring herself to cope, it took 2 years, long nights, and a miracle for her to crawl back out into the sunlight. Finally Yvain's family moved away from Denmark to London. A job had been offered to her father, less hours and good pay. Everyone including Yvain saw this as a good prospect Yvain wanted to get away from the bad memories. London was great but it took a bit of time for Yvaine to get used to it. Yvain prepared herself to enter school, but she suffered anxiety and panic attacks, at the thought of being lost or alone. She took up painting to ease her mind, even though she was not very good at it. It was relaxing, and despite it all the new atmosphere in London was good for her. Yvain began to pick up her old habit of handling disputes again, and her father gradually took her out to sail. The first time he got her on a boat, Yvain scrambled away, but Yvain little by little slowly got over her initial discomfort. She had missed sailing terribly. Once Yvain entered college life was a little more brighter. Yvain eventually graduated with a degree in physics, something she was happy about. She currently dabbles in psychology and is studying public relations. |
Role-Play Sample |
It was a warm morning, despite the breeze, Yvain had untied her boat from the dock. The weather was smooth, and Yvain did not have much trouble sailing upstream. Angela screamed. Yvain turned to see Angela was laughing. Yvain smiled for a moment as mist hit her face, Yvain turned to see a wall of water hit against the bow of the boat, she stumbled back as, the mainstay ripped the wave of water in half. Yvain coughed, and gasped at the sudden chill of the water, her eyes went wide as the adrenaline rushed through her veins. She pulled at foreguy, and looked to see the sky had turned cloudy. “Angela! Help me!” Yvaine called out. Angela came towards Yvain, her voice muffled. Yvain felt something was wrong. “Where is Sirka?” “Sirka!?” Yvain’s eyes went wide. No this could not be happening. “Sirka!” Another wave crashed against the boat. “Sirka!” Yvaine handed Angela the foreguy. Her eyes got stung by the salt of the wave. “Sirka!” The compass spun out of control, she took it in her hands. Where in the world did Angela run off to? “Angela?” she spoke startled. Yvain saw the sky turn grey, she screamed as the boom came to hit her across her face. She jumped to the sound of her alarm buzzing. It was that nightmare again. Yvain shifted to the edge of the bed, she tended to ignore such dreams but they were still annoying. Annoying exaggerated versions of things that had happened. Or things that never happened. She allowed her feet to touch the floor, her head hung groggily. A small click was heard. "Yvain.." her mother stepped into the room, the light flooding in behind her. “I heard a noise.. are you alright?” "It was my fault.. don't you see?" she paused. "She didn't even want to come in the first place! If I had not (her mother's voice rose in the distance) gone and begged her to come with me, she'd still be here," Yvain broke down sobbing. |
