Who cared that it was cold outside? Who cared that tiny flurries were floating around, but melting as soon as they hit the pavement? Who cared that breath could be seen exhaled from those were were talking about?
Certainly not Chelsea who, utterly packed in layers of clothing and a thick jacket – just in case! – was bouncing around excitedly around the legs of her mother. Victoria’s gait was far too slow for the young child, who seemed quite impatient to get where they were going. In fact, where they were going had never even come into question. The girl was completely in the dark, but followed along with it anyway. The cold air nipped at her cheeks, but the red blush it drew up into her cheeks only made her look more adorable – and she knew it.
As the two continued along, Chelsea rounded her mother once more and stepped with her eyes conveniently facing the closed doors of a small shop. Inside many people sat, drinking warm liquid from little cups and indulging in pastries and ice cream. Chelsea’s face lit up at the sight and she grabbed Victoria’s hand and tugged on it, her other hand pointing yonder towards the little shop.
“Mum, look!”
Chelsea stopped completely and anchored herself by her heels.
“I bet they have hot cocoa in there!” Shops with cookies and pastries and ice cream usually did cocoa too, right? With the weather being as it was, this would surely be a proper and welcome break from the cold. Chelsea looked up at Victoria’s her face in her most convincing, cutest puppy-dog expression, begging for a treat.
Because, as everyone on the planet knows, and everyone in the Kirkland family knows, Chelsea wasn’t nearly spoiled enough and needed even more of her mother’s attention and love. Also hot cocoa and ice cream.
