Chelsea Anderson-Kirkland Small. Blonde. Daughter of the mighty Victoria Anderson-Kirkland. Many things Chelsea is, but sweet? Innocent? Her mother insists she is, but in truth this little demon demands and commands the attention of all, getting ready for the burdens of being an adult far before she should be. Chelsea absolutely refuses to be mundane, and will do everything in her power to ensure she is heard. |

It's very likely the first time anyone meets Chelsea, they will meet her alongside her mother. Chelsea will cling, act shy... she might hide behind Victoria's leg. Overall, the first impression most people will get of the girl is that she is quiet, soft-spoken, and well-mannered. To Victoria, she is an angel who can do no wrong, and no one can tell her otherwise. She is wrong. This isn't to say that Chelsea is a little monster who makes life hell for everyone. No, she has a very rigid scale of respect that tops out at her mother, the one woman who sees Chelsea in all her positives. She is cooperative and entirely well-behaved, but in the hands of someone else if she doesn't like them, she very visibly and audibly lets them know. Her face changes entirely to a young lady who commands the respect of others, who cannot stand when people underestimate or mistreat her. Victoria has spoiled Chelsea utterly rotten and it shows in her behavior. She's come to expect most people to bow to her whims, and finds herself throwing a fit if she can't get her way. It's difficult to get on Chelsea's good side, but she treats people she likes far better than she does people she hates. Thankfully not everyone starts off at the point of hatred, but it takes very careful handling of Chelsea's particular personality to stay that way. She judges, and she judges heavily. Part of what makes Chelsea so difficult is her unmatchable stubbornness. It's a rarity when Chelsea backs down from a decision she makes, such privilege reserved only for the commands of the mighty mother. Otherwise, Chelsea is always right and no one can convince her otherwise. When challenged Chelsea puffs out her cheeks in a pout and glares unhappily, often sending scathing remarks back to her opponent. Victoria finds it adorable how she does this, commenting on how she can be so much like her mother and how she'll be a wonderful woman. This only encourages the girl further. Unfortunately, Chelsea's victories come few and far between. Not many people take her seriously - a thing she hopes to one day remedy. The problem is that temper tantrums don't usually result in her getting her way, and stomping her foot threateningly only makes people laugh. And when Chelsea gets laughed at, she hates it. Despite her tough demeanor, Chelsea is an emotional girl who carries with her the burdens of being eleven years old. Chelsea's last weapon, her last-ditch effort at getting what she wants, is to cry. Chelsea isn't really one to cry, otherwise, especially when her mother isn't around. Normally it's her way of scoring points with the people she wants attention from, meaning Chelsea, though bothered by the scraping of a knee, might not start wailing unless the injury was particularly bad. She has quite a set of lungs on her, which tends to end in horrifying high-pitched squeals demanding whatever she wants. Not many people make it past this point without getting frustrated, but for Chelsea to have to use this brutal weapon is actually somewhat rare. She has two methods for her crying that tend to vary between each other depending on the situation. Chelsea might pretend her feelings are hurt and, assuming this doesn't work, might eventually evolve that into a full-blown tantrum. However, she's less likely to pull any of that on someone she has any sort of fondness for. These tend to be family members. As attached to her mother as Chelsea is, she is very family-oriented and is willing to put up with a lot of things she otherwise wouldn't deal with, as long as it's from members of her family. It's mostly with other people she feels she can get away with most of the things she does, earning her a reputation as a brat. Family get an advantage, but there are plenty of people she likes outside of that. Now, after all this talk of children throwing tantrums, one might believe that there are few positives to this girl's attitude, which is wrong. Though it's very clear that Chelsea has a few behavioral problems, she's usually very cooperative with people. It depends entirely on her mood and when she's feeling particularly great, she's as sweet as sweet can be. Much of her behavior comes from her observation of her mother, noting that she is one of the strongest women she knows, and also noting that she is a non-nonsense woman who commands respect. She has inspired her child to attempt to walk in her footsteps, though perhaps in an ineffectual way. She has been inspired to learn, and eats through books like it's an extreme sport. She's learned a lot from these books, mainly how to speak as eloquently and adult as she possibly can. However, being eleven ears old, she tends to mispronounce a lot of words - and misuse them in an attempt to sound smart. In fact, it's likely that her misusing of words can lead to some hilarious misunderstandings, things that prompt others to laughter which, again, only prods at Chelsea's latent, developing insecurities. It'll take her a few times to learn what the words actually mean and once she gets over her embarrassment she'll be reciting them like a professional. Which leads into the next aspect of her personality: she is chatty. She loves to talk. She, as some might say, talks for the sake of hearing herself talk. She always has plenty to say, talking about her day, the things she did at home, specific conversations she had with friends, or even that one trip she had through the hallway to lunch. The way Chelsea figures it, the longer she talks, the more people pay attention to her, never once believing that by talking so much she might actually be annoying people. This is a subtle method of keeping people from talking about themselves, so Chelsea can drive the conversation in a way she desires, often by changing the subject as things interest her. As a child, she is inherently creative with an imagination she nurtures with her art. She’s almost always doodling on something, prompting Victoria to ensure she always has a steady supply of crayons and paper to keep her occupied. Growing up this worked to Victoria’s advantage, as the most basic of items given to the child could keep her entertained during the long hours of class or court. As such, little Chelsea has a lot of difficulty ever letting go of drawing, and a couple of crayons are the other thing she carries around on her person all the time, in addition to her old stuffed cat. One of her favorite past times is sitting around in the front of her home, using chalk to scribble wild images on anything that’ll easily wash off (because when she did otherwise she was always appropriately punished.) In fact, when babbling to others about the things that interest her, she often talks about her pictures and usually they are accompanied by some incredibly fantastic story, each scene illustrated by her own self. As one can easily imagine, Chelsea takes herself very seriously. Each of her behavioral problems can probably be linked to a childish, overinflated ego. She does tend to see herself as being better than most other kids her age, particularly because of her ability to say and misuse words that make her smart. She finds herself to be an impressive individual and though she might inspire awe in her peers she rarely manages the same sort of amazement in people older than her, unless she manages to do something particularly amazing for someone her age. Some might argue, however, that this self-importance is merely how a lot of children end up acting at some age or another. She speaks matter-of-factly as if she already knows everything, and becomes quite frustrated if the opposite is true and desires immediately to rectify the problem. Though, being as serious as she can be doesn't exempt her from the usual childish traits. Chelsea has to somehow keep herself from getting bored, and in addition to her love of scribbling with chalk, she can be quite mischievous. Among like-minded children who can only group up with her, Chelsea is a prankster who, unfortunately, ends up having plenty of targets. She'd never pull a prank on Victoria, but everyone else? Free game! Anything for a good laugh, as long as she's able to quickly plan an escape route in case things go awry. In this particular case Chelsea's torment is never enacted maliciously. People she pranks will always be at least somewhat liked. However, the people whom she likes don't necessarily like her back - and she knows this. Contrary to what some people may believe she is actually quite smart for a ten-year-old. She is watchful, always keeping a careful eye on her surroundings and she is capable of making impromptu decisions that run the chance of saving her if caught in a prank. Though Chelsea doesn't often lie, if she does she makes attempts to keep them as close to the truth as possible, under the impressions that as long as the lie is logical, it is believable. Before doing anything, Chelsea always has a Plan B and an escape route, and doesn't like to do anything unless she is fully prepared for the consequences. She isn't the kind of person who does things on a whim, but this doesn't mean all of her shenanigans come to fruition without something going wrong. Don't expect Chelsea to be able to solve all problems she's encountered with. She's no prodigy, but she's smart enough to work things out on her own, particularly in real-life situations. Though all of her actions culminate into a child who appears to tantrum on a whim, she is much more stable than that. Crying tends to be more reactionary to people who hurt her or demean her, but other than that she rarely does anything unless she's sure the reaction she'll get is favorable or advantageous. She is a listener and she pays attention to the things that go on around her, especially if she feels she'll be able to get ammo to help her in the future. Pulling the wool over her eyes is, essentially, difficulty. She's not stupid and demands proof of claims before going along with anything, and likewise uses evidence of situations to engineer the evolving of events that may have to do with her. She is, overall, a little girl at a quandary, not yet old enough to have the world in her hands but still desperately trying against the odds that are stacked against her, convinced that if she doesn't hammer out her disadvantages now she'll be unable to succeed later. |

Stuffed Animals: Though some might say that Chelsea's far too old for stuffed animals, she disagrees. In fact, her love for stuffed animals is so great that she is most often seen carrying one around. Chelsea's stuffed animal is an old cat she's had since she was little, fur worn away by years of affection and carrying, and it acts as a sort of security blanket for her. Chelsea finds comfort in the cat and is visibly distraught when she doesn't have it in her arms. She affectionately calls it "Miss Kitty." Fish: Chelsea always found fish kind of cute and funny at the same time. they make kissy faces wherever they swim, they have big eyes, and come in all sorts of amazing colors. She's not sure she's prepared for the responsibility of taking care of them, though. The one time she asked about fish she was told about changing the water and monitoring the acidity, so she figures it's better for her to wait until she starts asking for fish. Sweets: She's a kid. What kid doesn't like sweets? It's better to make sure it's just not in the house because even it's hidden she'll usually find it... and then she'll eat it all. Television: Television becomes her best friend when it's raining. She'll often sit on the sofa with the TV on, drawing the characters from her favorite shows doing things she wants to do. She's not obsessed or anything, but don't expect her to move if she has nothing else to do. Animals: Most animals, anyway. There are pretty clear exceptions but the rule of thumb is that if they have fur, she'll probably like them, especially if they're small enough for her to pick up. Swimming: Chelsea is pretty much a water baby. Slap some floaties on her, put her in water, and watch her go! There's really not much else to say except that it's a hobby and she has no plans for her love of swimming to dip into future professions. Drawing: It entertains her and serves as an outlet for her imagination. She's been drawing since she was little and if she wasn't so dead set on following in her mother's footsteps, she'd definitely want to be an artist. She always has crayons on hand, just in case she needs to doodle on something. Attention: Chelsea loves attention! It should be said that she prefers positive to negative, despite all the silly things she might do. Positive reactions and attention make her feel really good about herself, while negative only makes her regret what she's done... and that is something that should not have to happen! | Fish smell: She loves fish, as long as she doesn't have to smell them. Fish smell weird and the stench permeates and stagnates, creating something gross that she'd much rather be without. Chelsea would gladly have pet fish, just as long as she can stick an air freshener to the aquarium. Oddly enough, she doesn't mind the smell of seafood - specifically, cooked seafood, though this could be attributed to the fact most cooked seafood is probably smothered in spices and herbs that make the smell pleasurable. People who don't take her seriously: This is a very easy way to make Chelsea hate you forever. Even if you don't agree with what Chelsea has to say just play along, for her sake, or try to correct her thinking without being patronizing. Chelsea will fully agree to being wrong as long as someone can do it in a manner that isn't insulting, and they provide clear evidence to support the claim. She can't argue against evidence, you know! Being Ignored: If she's trying to get your attention, at least acknowledge she is there. Chelsea hasn't had a particularly troubling existence, but revels in the fact people know she's there or care enough about her to say, "Just a second, I can talk when I'm not busy." She's patient, she can wait... just don't brush her off without a word. Usually if she's bothering you that much, she thinks it's super important and this is a good way to hurt her feelings. Reptiles: Though Chelsea usually likes most animals, reptiles are one of those exceptions. She has yet to find one she likes and isn’t closed off to the possibility she might find a reptile she’s okay with, since a lot of them are shiny and look kind of gross. She does think geckos are kind of cute, but only if she’s separated from them by glass. Also, they make really adorable squeaky noises. Bugs: Ew. Gross. No, no, no, no. Chelsea will readily admit that she might find a reptile she likes to touch but no one will ever convince that she'll ever like a bug. They have creepy eyes, jointed legs, and if they're big enough make nasty crinkly noises as their legs move. This goes for spiders, too! Scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, pill bugs... Nope. Nope. She hates them all. Spicy Food: Anything that can make her nose run uncontrollably is something that Chelsea will likely not want to eat. Food should not make her cry! |

Get A Kitten: Or a puppy. Either works. She and her mother don't have any animals, and Chelsea would love to one day be able to own a soft, furry critter of her own. Maybe with enough asking and a few more years passing, she'll finally get this thing she's been wanting since she was little? Find Her Dad: He was never there for her or her mother, so he's obviously not someone she wants to associate much with on a familial level. However, she's assailed constantly by curiosity. Victoria either doesn't remember him or refuses to divulge information, leaving Chelsea ignorant of his identity. While Chelsea has no interest in establishing a relationship, she still wants to know who he is. Grow up to be awesome: Chelsea wants to excel! Chelsea has dreams of achieving everything if she sets her mind to it, and seeing the way her mother made it through such adversity Chelsea is confident she'll make it too. She wants to make her mother proud - she wants to make the family proud. Everyone has something that makes them special, a talent that gives them an edge over everyone else. Chelsea has yet to find her edge, but hopes one day to use it to become the best she can be. Be a Prosecutor like her Mom: The first and only inspiration to a future profession so far has been her mother as a prosecuting attorney. Chelsea's spent a huge chunk of her life accompanying Victoria to her cases or classes, lacking money enough to pay for nannies or babysitters. As such, Chelsea would like to think her experiences have given her knowledge that would aid her in becoming an attorney just like her mother. She would never tell her that the cases were boring and she never listened in court, but Victoria would probably have expected that seeing as she always put Chelsea in a corner with crayons and a coloring book. | Drowning: As much as Chelsea loves to swim... she fears drowning. She's well aware of how dangerous water can be, well aware of how one wrong move can spell disaster. She still swims with little arm-floaties, mostly because she's scared of what'll happen if she doesn't. Even if she knew how to swim really well, she'd probably still only be comfortable if she has something that floats. Snakes: While most reptiles Chelsea simply doesn't like, she is very much afraid of snakes. She knows they can bite, or crush, and she knows some can kill people. That's why she's terrified. Their sleek bodies, scary eyes, and legless bodies pretty much ensure Chelsea will only ever see them as something to be horrified by. Shark Attacks: Sharks are cool. Shark attacks are not. Even though a lot of people say you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than you do getting attacked by a shark, that doesn't change the fact that it happens to people when they least expect it. No one ever says "it'll be me," but in Chelsea's case she will say it and then she'll be ready. Lost at Sea: Chelsea can't get a break! If she's swimming at the beach and she has her floaties, she doesn't have to worry about drowning. But what if a wave comes in and sweeps her out to sea? Will she be able to swim hard enough to get back to shore, or will be float further and further away and be lost forever? Grow Up a Disappointment: Victoria succeeded in the face of adversity. Chelsea remembers growing up, how hard is was until Victoria finally made some success for herself. There was no one else there for either of them and Chelsea got to see it all because it was impossible to get by otherwise. She sees her mother as someone to aspire to... that ambition and greatness, that determination that got her where she was. Chelsea feels she has some pretty big shoes to fill and hopes when the times comes to measure up she won't fall short. Storms: Something about storms just makes Chelsea nervous, but she can't put her finger on it. Is it the harsh rain? The lightning? The ensuing thunder? Whatever the reason, she hate storms and they scare her, reducing her to a sad, terrified, shaky little girl under the covers who just wants it all to be over. |
Background |
The baby's first emergence into the world was far from typical. She was born on a rainy day to a high school student just entering her senior year. It was a relatively quiet birth in that there were few other people there to enjoy the new life, save the mother who finally was able to reap the rewards of her actions but come to no regrets. The father was nowhere to be found, but Chelsea, as she would come to be named, was just fortunate to have been born to a woman who would love her just as strongly as any mother could love her child. Chelsea's birth was far from typical on that cold, rainy day, but the small family she gained more than made up for the circumstance. That family made up for the hardships. Victoria was ill-prepared to care for a child, but refused to leave her daughter in the care of others. Thus, Chelsea's first memories were of being with her mother, of course, but at places that were not home. She was taken to school, where Victoria worked obsessively against all odds to earn the living she wanted to provide for Chelsea. Growing up, the young girl had every opportunity to see her mother at her very best, even when the worst was looming. She didn't realize how strong a woman she was, how she'd have to live through the comments and murmurs criticizing her for her age, and as she got older she understood the significance of everything Victoria had done. She spent a huge chunk of her life listening to boring lectures she didn't understand. Given toys she would either sit herself in a corner somewhere and draw, waiting for when they would move on to another classroom. It was a slow existence until she started school, but even then she was doomed to accompany her mother to court cases, which were just as boring as the debates in law school. What clicked eventually was the realization that her childhood was atypical. She had no father, whereas many of her peers did. They spent their childhoods at daycare and school, at the houses of their friends... no stuck in a room somewhere with nowhere else to go. It dawned on her eventually that there was no choice. Victoria simply didn't have the means of providing like that, using whatever funds she could manage to squeeze out of work to afford her flat and afford to feed her child. Every day was a hardship and Chelsea never realized how difficult it was, how hard Victoria had to work simply to make ends meet. But she always smiled, as if this was exactly what she wanted. This was a challenge and she was ready to defeat it. She grew up admiring her mother, wanting to emulate her and be the best she could be. She strove to be on her best behavior for her... there was no sense in making things harder than they already were. Eventually, though, there was a breakthrough in the family's ability to care for itself. Not long after graduating law school, Victoria's recognition caused her career to soar - and so did life at home begin to get easier. Cases flew in, but by this time Chelsea was no longer accompanying her mother to court, but staying in school working as hard as she could to be the best she could. She'd pretty much been raised in school and was very much prepared for the tasks ahead and with each victory earned by Victoria so did Chelsea's pride in her accomplishments grow. She is very young and aside from her childhood not much has happened, but she has a lot to look forward to with a loving family that keeps going, and the drive to be just as good as her. |

Each square of sidewalk was a panel to her comic, framed by streaks of pink and blue dragged across the rough cement. The panels were stages, where monsters and people would battle it, each intending to take the magical kingdom for their own. The monster, a giant green dragon with three horns and a scorpion tale struck out against the brave knights. The curtains fell and in the panel adjacent a magical archer let loose a flurry of arrows, piercing the beasts hide and sending it crashing into the abyss. The archer removed her helmet and let her hair flow in the wind, and stood proud as her people applauded her efforts. She was rewarded with titles and riches, but the true end to her story would never be revealed due to the paw prints that tread across the landscape. “Arf, arf!” Chelsea squealed and fell backward onto her rear, dropping her chalk to the concrete. The dog immediately picked up the chalk and ran some feet away from the girl, wiggling its behind excitedly. The dog had been rolling around in her previous creations, and its black fur was dusted all colors of the rainbow. The animal was slightly shagged and matted; an obvious stray, from the looks of things. No collar, but it appeared to be healthy… Chelsea watched the dog bounce around, trying to entice her into playing with it. She could only look to each side nervously. Her home wasn’t far away, but there was no way she’d be allowed to keep this animal… and her mother always told her not to talk to strangers to touch strange animals. What a shame, she loved that color… it was magenta. “I—No, no. I can’t.” As if the dog could understand her. Chelsea pulled herself back onto her feet and dusted the chalk off her shirt and shorts, but only succeeded in smearing the colors further. Heaving a frustrated huff, she picked up what was left of her chalk sans the one being eaten by the dog and headed off in the direction of home. Almost immediately she heard that she was being followed, as the dogs long claws clicked against the concrete. Chelsea turned, eyes narrowing. “You can’t come with me!” The dog barked. “No, you—“ Another bark. There was a long pause as Chelsea stood there silently, watching the dog as its tail wagged vibrantly to and fro. Finally, she sighed. “… M-Maybe… maybe mum will let me keep you.” Chelsea ran a stained hand through her light blonde hair, smearing the chalk further and creating colored streaks in the strands. Maybe. |
