Elizabeta Ann Hedevary A white knight who intends to be a light in the dark, Elizabeta has gone through a fair amount of darkness herself. She's felt dark in the lightest of rooms, alone in a crowded place. But whatever. The lower she gets, the higher she climbs. She got dark, only to shine. She holds a bitterness to herself, grovels in her hatreds and grudges, but she won't let that weigh her down. She's made of titanium, and she isn't going to allow anything get in her way now. |

Ambitious || It took her a great deal of effort (and going through many detours) to get herself to where she is today. She's had many, many setbacks, but she has never let that stop her from achieving her goals. She has very much confidence now and expects to do relatively well in what she is doing if she truly put her mind to it. Of course, there are some apprehensions, there are some days when she thinks "Why am I doing this?", but she perseveres in an effort to achieve her goals by any means necessary. Determined || She has a very, very firm resolve. A resolve that is quite hard to break. A woman who is unwavering in her decisions, one who is very difficult to convince of things otherwise. It really is difficult to change her opinions because of her high opinion of herself when it comes to her own righteousness. Her focus is strong and is very, very exact when it comes to the decisions that she makes. Her perseverance has gotten her through thick and thin, and so it shall hopefully get her to her ultimate goal. Independent || She doesn't rely on others. She's her own woman, and she knows she can get things done on her own. She has a hard time relying on other people in the first place. She has a hard time trusting others, and only trusts herself to get a job done right. She knows herself very well and is very, very comfortable with herself. She prefers to work alone. She doesn't need anyone to lean on, she reasons. She has a difficult time working with other people, in reality. Honest || Perhaps she considers herself a bit of a simple-minded person, but there's no manipulation or any lying up her sleeve. Lying was something that her mother looked down upon and scolded her for. Her moral center is quite strong, and she is constantly fighting her prideful, grudge-holding side. She is quite a trustworthy person, and aims to be a good person in all respects morally. She may falter, yes, but it is certain that her intentions are good for the most part. She's quickly getting to learn, though, that honesty may not be the best path to success in politics, but she will continue to fight that... Tough || She can't say that she is the delicate little edelweiss that she was expected to be. She isn't a delicate little lady at all, but she really defines herself as a lady. A hardy lady who could take hell for all she's worth. A lady who could take insult and injury, who could fight her own fights. She isn't afraid of falling down and stepping out of line. As a child, she always had to be tough, and the need to stay tough was heightened upon her moving to Aylesbury. She fights her own fights, one way or the other. Reliable || She is a very, very reliable young woman. It is quite certain that she will always get the job done, one way or another. She's the kind of girl you would want want to rely on. She's a firm person, and is someone you really could lean on. Dauntless || She knows no fear. Or at least, for the most part, it's hard to scare her. She does have her fears, yes, but they aren't something that she allows consume her. She isn't the kind of person that would end up joining the panic. It's also pretty difficult to intimidate her. She isn't easily intimidated, and actually can be quite intimidating herself. Romantic Introverted || Despite the fact that she is a politician and can be quite outright friendly and talkative, she feels rather drained at the end of the day from social events and too much social engagement. She does stand out, but she can't help but that's perhaps because of the boldness in words and outward appearances. She enjoys conversations, but too much interaction can really, really get to her. She does need her breaks, and honestly, she can be a tad bit shy, though she won't admit to it. Guarded || She's had to learn how to keep her feelings and thoughts to herself, to try her best not to show her true feelings. She's learned how to hide everything behind a pretty little mask. Yes, she may be outspoken about her own opinions, but feelings? She has a hard time with them now. Many things have closed her off, and she can't help it. The dauntless Elizabeta Ann Hedevary is scared of being vulnerable again. Never again... she'll make certain that it will never happen again. Conceited || This had sprang about during the time of her marriage to boost her ego and to deal with her situation. It wasn't a particularly happy time, but she dealt with it by trying to be physically the best she could be, through exercising and keeping her body beautiful. She tried to keep remembering that she was meant to be Countess Elisabeth Annika von Edelstein of House Edelstein, tried to keep her nose up high. Now that she's her own woman, she doesn't need to do that, but she retained some conceited tendencies. She sees her abilities and looks as good. She has retained vanity (perhaps to the exasperation of her childhood self). She is often eager to prove herself as superior. She seems to have an opinion about everything, and isn't afraid to voice it or debate about it. She'll defend her opinion. If her ego is in question, she's defending it. Bossy || It's something that she can't help. She's inclined to dominate, dictate, be pushy and overbearing, especially when it comes to things that really suck her in. She wants to be in charge, always needs to be in control. She hates it when she's in a situation where she simply can't control anything. She hates being at the mercy of others. She is very comfortable in leading. She can become unnecessarily bold and outspoken when her bossiness comes out. This sometimes results in having difficulties working with others. Stubborn || If there is anything the police force noted down to be "problematic" about her, it's the fact that she is stubborn. Her inner-sense of self-righteousness clouds her judgement. It's hard to convince her that she is wrong or unjustified. She will outright disobey orders if she thinks of them as "corrupt" in "self interest" or "simply not effective enough." She's known to go to measures that are simply a bit too far fetched. She's used to being an independent kind of woman, and so she works better alone or giving out orders. Being a sub-ordinate is a difficult thing for her. Prideful || She really holds onto her pride. She takes insults to her family name very, very seriously. Same with any insults to the land of her birth. She keeps to her prides and holds her nose high, most certainly. This makes it difficult for her to uncloud her judgement when it comes to people in general. Once she has something against you that makes her look down upon you, she's not going to let go of it at all. Hurt her pride and ego, and you're stuck with her unwillingness to forgive. Holds Grudges || She can't help but boil over hold grudges and rivalries. She's the queen of never letting go, quite frankly. She'll do anything in her power to one-up anyone she holds a grudge against and take vengeance of equal or greater value. Pessimistic || She's lost her optimistic view of life. She can't help but dwell in some pessimism. She doesn't see a reason for wishful thinking. She'll only see black and white. She's more likely to dwell on the bad in a situation. However, she doesn't feel as if she's hopeless. She acknowledges the demons and condemns them very much... but she also enjoys to fight against them. It's a thrill for her. Horrible Temper || She is generally a lovely woman of good character, but once you strike her temper, she becomes a horrible, horrible person. When you've poked at her enough, her temper is horrible. She'll become something quite... ugly, to be frank. You'll see her jealousies and her inhibitions, her true thoughts and her unrestricted rage. It's an ugly persona, and a persona she simply can't control once it has been tapped. It is hard to forget this Elizabeta, a much rougher, much insensitive one compared to her usual temperament. It's usually quite hard to forget this Elizabeta. |
Likes | Dislikes |
Fashion || She used to not care much for fashion, but she's taken to it. It's something that she's drawn confidence from, the moment she became Elizabeta Hedevary, British-made and strong, a woman. She likes wearing clothes that accentuate her good figure. Wearing high fashion brands had come about when she became Lady Elisabeth. She hasn't lost her taste for high fashion at all, but she does remember her roots. She isn't opposed to donning the more comfortable men's wear if she needed to, but really, she thinks she looks good in Chanel. Hot Spring Baths || Very, very relaxing. She got very spoiled with hot spring baths when it came to during her married life. It's one of those things that kept her looser in the shoulders when she needed it. Plus, it's quite good for your skin! Romantic Novels || A secret pleasure, she happens to like fantasizing about love. Despite the fact that her own love had failed, it doesn't mean she has totally given up on the concept of love itself. Romantic novels are her way of imagining such romantic fantasies. Tea || She absolutely loves to have a cup of tea to loosen up the nerves. It's something that she's taken to as she became more of an "honorary Brit". She likes her tea black. No sugar or milk. Justice || She always happened to enjoy the triumph of the heroes and the good. Good triumphing over evil is something that is simply the natural order of things to her. Beauty || In herself and in others. She likes to see beauty in others. It reminds her of the inert good in others. She also happens to seek it out in herself. She had grown obsessed with her own beauty at one point, though she's slowly trying to quell that. Alone Time || It's a relaxing thing for her. A day spent having to be at public events and schmoozing with others can be very, very tiring. If she can, she'll seek out time to be alone with her thoughts. Rubik's Cube || A Hungarian puzzle, she loves to fiddle around with the Rubik's Cube to pass the time. She has a cube in her office, on her desk. She also happens to have one made with real gems from a certain someone... she doesn't use that one anymore. Dogs || She loves her dogs big, fluffy, and energetic. She has a dog that she has named Traian... after the Romanian president, of course. Consider it an honour, though. That dog is the fluffiest, cutest thing ever, kay? Cute Things || She may be the definition of a masculine figure, but she's still quite a girl in the respect that she has a soft spot for things that people would normally dub "cute". Cute cats, dogs, fashion, she'll definitely be a sucker for. Just as long as it isn't overbearing, she'll be endeared. Having a Drink || Who doesn't like to have a drink from time to time? Her drink choices aren't the most fabulous. If there was a taste she couldn't acquire during her time in Vienna, it was fancy wines. She can't tell the difference. Yeah, she knows that some things taste a bit better than others, but it's all alcohol to her. And if there's one thing that always bothered her, it was how those people clinked their glasses. She'll drink anything, and has a particular affinity to beer. Horseback Riding || It's something that she had always loved. Her father had made certain that she could properly ride a horse at an early age. Horses are such agile, beautiful creatures. She feels at home when it comes to horses. She may have halted her equestrian pursuits when her father had his accident, but she took it up again after a while. In fact, it became her only solace during her marriage if she had the free time. Given her location, she doesn't have her own horse at the moment, but she'd love one. Fencing Running || She often goes on a run through Hyde Park to keep up with her body image. Running is the way that she really lets out her emotions. Exercise || Same with running, exercising is something she does in her spare time to let her emotions out. She often goes angry exercising when she's stressed. Love || She has grown up in a loving environment and is particularly fond of familial love and forming bonds with others, despite some introverted tendencies. Love is something she doesn't take lightly due to its importance in her life. She likes the feeling of being in love and devoting her loyalties to a person, as that is how it always was for her, but she has her reluctance... | Corruption || As a child, her mother would often get complaints from the villagers about political corruption. Heck, the mayor of Tiszagyenda was sometimes corrupt. Hungary wasn't exactly the whitest. The other instance that had her dead-set against corruption was her time in Vienna. It was often that she noticed that these rich nobles liked to influence government by paying the politicians to vote in their favor. Roderich's own parents were keen on the practice, and she absolutely despised it. Britain isn't free of corruption either, but damn, it's much better than her own home country. She intends to eliminate corruption from Britain, somehow. Crime || It's disgusting that people can live in such a way, taking advantage of and hurting others. That isn't acceptable at all. Living in a crime-afflicted neighborhood did not do any good to have her sympathize with criminals. Dependency || She hates the idea of being made dependent on someone. It makes her feel very, very insecure. She hates the feeling of helplessness. Her ex-husband || To be fair, she didn't divorce him because of falling out of love. Rather, she hates the fact that he never stood up for the two of them, even if she stood up for the two of them. However, he's lost her respect after the divorce. She hates reading about him in the tabloids. He's had three other wives after her, and she isn't so sure of just how true those vows were ever to her. Is she something to be simply be put aside? Of course not. She won't accept that. Over-idealistic Ideas Her own stubornness Overthinking || Or being given too much time to think. She inwardly keeps to herself when it comes to her own personal bitterness. Piano || She actually can play the piano and had taken a bit of talent, though there was,,, someone else who had been even better. That person had taught her the piano, and the piano simply leaves her in bitterness nowadays. Gossip Magazines || She isn't quite pleased to hear about her ex-husbands antics in The Sun, to say the least. Bullies Mothers || No, she actually does love her mother very much. It isn't exactly a dislike, but perhaps a bit of an envy. She holds a particular dislike when it comes to people who don't appreciate their roles as mothers. Being Cheated Out || She is all for fairness. She hates being taken advantage of, and she hates when good people are cheated out of things. She desires to protect people from being cheated out of their hardwork, and she holds on tight to her own work. She isn't going to allow anyone to cheat her of anything. She also doesn't like it when people... cheat on her, come to say. Oppression || She may as well be the poster child of rebellion. She hates being oppressed in any form or way, and hates the idea of others being oppressed as well. Because of her mother, she has become an advocate of feminism. In politics, she knows that being a woman sets her apart unnecessarily. The oppression she hates most, though, is the oppression of being told you can't be who you are. It absolutely pained her, the oppression felt during her marriage. She is done with being pinned down against her will. Disorder Being called Erzsi without her permission Love || She does like seeing love in other people, but she can't say she would ever like it for herself now that she thinks about it. She learned to feel very suffocated when it comes to relationships, and so she holds a bit of aversion to love for herself— but she can't say she outright hates love. |
Dreams | Fears |
To love and be loved || She may be a bit more bittered about love now. She may not be as optimistic about love. But deep inside, she is the kind of girl that wants to be loved, and wants to be loved back. Without consequence, without condition. The kind of love she wants is unconditional love, and she will give unconditional love back. She wants to settle down again. She fears messing up again, she fears another failed marriage, and she fears losing love. Love is hard to come by, frankly. To eradicate crime and corruption || She may have many pessimistic thoughts, but if there was one thing that she really wants in life, she wants to rid the streets of London of the evils of crime and corruption. She hates the idea of people being taken advantage of. She hates watching honest people being harmed by crime, to see power being misused when it could be potentially be used for good, to see crime be a cycle— it happens that children who grow up in an environment of crime develop are always affected. They either become heroes and heroines to fight their environments, such as Elizabeta herself, or they fight their world by becoming criminals. Or they recede and quiver with fear for all time, such as her own aunt. To be certain of who she is || She's had a hard time trying to figuring out who she is. She's had to go through several names and faces, and she's afraid to go through more. She isn't so certain as to who she is exactly, anymore. She does hope that this is her final change, as a white knight politician of the Labour Party with confidence in her step at an aura of independence, but she isn't so certain that this is how it'll end. She'd like stability and to know who she exactly is. To stop caring about her ex || She admits it. She freaking still cares about her ex-husband. He's the only one who captured her heart and had it for a long while. She still follows him through the gossip magazines, even if she's heard that he's had four other wives after her. Even if she's heard about how he's finally been disowned from his family. Even if his mother was such a bitch towards her. Even if he wouldn't stand up for them... she still cares. It bitters her to continue to follow those gossip magazines, but she still does it. She cares, and she needs to cut that care away from her life. She needs to properly move on and stop thinking about it. Maybe find someone else to love. Just... she needs to stop caring. To have a family || She's scared because of how her first attempt had worked out. She still has nightmares from the time she had miscarriaged and had lost hope in ever having a proper family. She felt like everything was perfect with the perfect husband, the perfect life (despite the pressures, she would have been able to provide the child with more than she grew up with), and simply her perfectionism... but alas, that's not how it works. She still dreams of having a big family and would love to spoil children of her own, but that's something subject to life's twists and turns. It's a dream that's becoming more and more in the backseat of her mind. | Marriage || Or at least, she fears the commitment. There are unfortunately so many parties to consider, not just the one person you want to be with the rest of your life. She is scared of messing it up and not being enough for who her future partner would be. She's not so sure she'd want to go back into another marriage, for the fear of failing in this, but she'll consider it if pushed enough. Failure || She can't stand the idea of never making progress with her goal. She wants to have made a mark in this world. To not even scratch the surface... now that is sad. Decay of Beauty || A silly, conceited fear, but her appearance is something that she knows she is almost always in control of. To lose her beauty is to lose the hard work she has done to attain and maintain that beauty. It's a mark of the fact that she had to face some brutality to achieve it. If carbon is put under enough pressure, it has the potential to become a diamond. That is how she feels her story is like. To lose her beauty is to lose something that she has worked for. Being Completely Alone || She may not like being surrounded by too many people, but don't get her wrong, she doesn't want to be completely alone either. She appreciates her alone time, but she needs company in her life as well. She needs people to care for and support. To be completely left alone, she would be heartbroken. To have no clue who she is || She's done trying to figure out who she is. She wants to be certain of who she is and to be able to stand by such an identity strong and proud. She's a very proud person and she doesn't happen to like uncertainty. She's already had to fight to become who she is today. |
Background |
Elizabeta Hedevary was born Erzsébet Héderváry in the small village of Tiszagyenda, Hungary. It is said that "gyenda" means "the one who returns" in Hungarian. A girl like her would have never expected to have married an Austrian noble— let alone divorce one and acquire a bit of money in the process. But what was there to complain about there? Elizabeta has had to take on many names throughout her life. As of so far, her life can be divided into four. Héderváry Erzsébet, Elizabeta Hedevary, Elisabeth Annika von Edelstein, and Elizabeta Ann Hedevary. She's taken on these names and faces, whether willingly or forced upon her. Héderváry Erzsébet Tiszagyenda was a relatively small place. Not the worst place in Hungary to grow up in, not the best. She was brought up with much love and a strong Hungarian pride. Her father owned the village's horse stables and trained anyone interested in the art of equestrianism. Her mother was the person anyone who had a problem in the village would go to. Her mother was a particularly strong personality, having inherited that unofficial, unspoken position from her own father. Her mother was a life in the village, a self-proclaimed accorddian prodigy and the owner of the village's only restaurant. Her mother headed and directed all village festivals and helped the official mayor with budgets. If anything went amiss, it was her mother that dished out justice. Hanna Héderváry may have not been officially the head of the village, but the village certainly did see her as one. With this environment, she grew up relatively happy. Her father trained her in horseback riding the moment she could properly sit on a horse on her own. She had a natural affinity for equestrianism, and her father made her into Tiszagyenda's very own star rider, having her compete even in the junior division in Budapest. She went to school in her village with her brother, and when she wasn't at the stables, she was helping her mother and brother at the restaurant. She became the village's tomboy as well, always wearing a boy's clothes (she claimed it was much easier to ride in boys clothes), and getting along much better with the boys. Her mother may have been the poster child of "A woman shouldn't need to literally make herself a man to take charge. A woman can take charge however she would like.", but her mother allowed her the freedom without any objections, just as long as Erzsi occasionally allowed her mother to run her fingers through her hair and braid it. This happiness was eventually cut short when her father had an accident involving his horse and riding down a steep place. He was in a critical condition and was placed in a coma. Unfortunately, the tiny village family would not be able to pay the hospital bills and have dear father treated in Hungary... but there was another option. Erzsi's mother had a sister who estranged herself from the family. That sister now lived in the UK, London to be specific. That aunt was willing to pay for Erzsi's father's hospital treatments... under one condition. Erzsi was to live with that Aunt Alexa as an exchange. Erzsi wasn't certain at the time whether she should leave Tiszagyenda for London, but she decided upon it because there was no other choice in regards to treating her father. And besides, her mother wasn't going to allow her to ride a horse or run the stables — her mother was too fearful of something happening to her only daughter as well. Without horseback riding, Erzsi wasn't so certain what she was to do. And so, at the age of 11, Erzsi had decided to move to the UK. Elizabeta Hedevary Upon arriving in Great Britain, Erzsi was quickly taken aback. London was huge to this little Hungarian villager. She's been to Budapest a couple times for horseback riding events, but London was on a whole other level. However, she didn't expect the living situation she was given. London truly could be a place of decadence. There were the buildings that reached for sky high, the rich estates with spacious gardens... and then there were the squat houses and horrendous streets in a place known as "The Aylesbury Estate". Erzsi may have not understood a word of English upon arrival, but damn did she easily understand just how shitty it was living in the place. Her father was taken to the hospital to be treated without much drama. It was just strange to get used to living with an aunt she has never met personally before. Alexa Hedevary was a woman who had much drive in her younger days, who wanted no part in living in Tiszagyenda, and wanted to make it big in the UK. However, she found herself living in Aylesbury instead. She had money that she earned after years of working in the UK, but she never seemed to get herself out of Aylesbury. Her aunt was a lonely person, and needed somebody to live with, someone to even raise as her own daughter. Erzsi complied, as her aunt never had bad intentions and did treat her correctly. Perhaps another hope was that having Erzsi in her life would get her wanting to move to Charlotte. It was an interesting and differet life. An 11 year old who has never gone beyond the self-satisfied boundaries of her village would feel as if their world blew up and expanded. Erzsi's aunt lived in an apartment in the Winterbush Complex of Aylesbury, which had truly surprised Erzsi: Erzsi didn't expect the horrid conditions of Aylesbury, the name having sounded quite fanciful at the time. Her aunt was planning to move up to Charlotte eventually (in which they did, when Elizabeta obtained her citizenship at 15). However, in that time, Erzsi had laid witness to so many crimes. Her own building was gross. Puddles of blood sometimes had to be jumped over to get to school. She always took the stairs because of the smell of piss in the elevator. Heck, sometimes people died in the building (how rude!), and no one would notice until quite late, when the smell of the corpse would reach through the walls. The streets often sounded of bullets and cop cars. The incident that made her particularly against crime was when someone had broken into their apartment and decided it was a good idea to steal, but Elizabeta had just come home from school. Seeing this happening, she pulled out a frying pan and struck the invader in the head, hard enough to knock them out and to save her shaken aunt. They moved out soon enough. And for certain, she was glad of it. Her gradual transition to Hungarian-born, British-made was a somewhat difficult transition. She had came to Britain knowing only "Hello," "Goodbye," and "How do you do?" She wasn't allowed to dress up in such a manner and act in such a manner as she did back in Tiszagyenda. To act in a boyish manner at this age wasn't going to work — it was apparent little Erzsi had become a woman. She was bullied in school for her horrible English and her residence in Aylesbury. She'd time and again answer back physically, but she found that method of solving her problems to not be very effective like it was in Hungary. Her situation did improve, the better her English got and the better her home environment became. By the time she received her British citizenship, she was much more integrated. She stopped introducing herself as Héderváry Erzsébet, as it seemed no one could properly pronounce her name and it had made her feel somewhat different from the rest. She became Elizabeta Hedevary. Even after her father recovered, she continued to live her life in Great Britain and saw that her father went back to Tiszagyenda without too much stress. Elizabeta Hedevary was more feminine than Héderváry Erzsébet. She had become beautiful through age. She was less wary of the feminine side of things when curves came in. In fact, she regained some confidence from that, happened to like it when she made the boys swoon. Elizabeta Hedevary took up fencing to replace the horseback that was taken away from Héderváry Erzsébet. It opened up new doors for her. She received a scholarship for Oxford, on account of her excellent fencing and the work she has done for school. To help supplement her educational funds, she took on a job at Scotland Yard as one on the investigative police force. For her university goals, she wanted to become a politician. A white knight against all corruption and crime. She is very much inspired for this task. She was aware of the corruption in Hungary's own government (due to her mother always complaining about it and always having to take the complaints from the other villagers about it), yes. She had always heard of good people being cheated out of their hard work. Her own village was no exception. People often preferred to come to her mother for traditional support: They always had distrust for politicians, even the mayor. The Tea Life Scandal of 2015 in the UK left her with a thought of corruption needing to be eradicated. Crime was something that affected her personaly, with how her aunt in Aylesbury had been. Elizabeta wanted to raise the slum into something respectable. She studied law with the intention to run for office. She studied for a lawyer's license. Elisabeth Annika von Edelstein It was at Oxford she met her future husband, the heir apparent to the title of the Earl of Edelstein, Roderich Maximilian von Edelstein. She wasn't aware of just who he was at the time, but she knew she never felt this way for anyone before. She had denied such a feeling multiple times, but she had finally fallen in love. After having graduated from Oxford, the two moved back to Vienna to get married. She did wish to begin her political career promptly, but it seemed she would have to wait. Her name would be "Austrianized" as Elisabeth. She was requested to take on a middle name, and so she took the German form of her mother's name, Annika. She was often called by those around her as "Lady Annika". And she became a von Edelstein... at least in name. She was very surprised by the fact the two had to go through a very, very fancy ceremony, and who was on the guest list. Austria may have done away with the nobility, but many still had their claims and prestige, even marrying into the still-existing royal families in Europe. The moment she stepped into the reception hall, she felt very self-conscious. She normally wouldn't have cared, but the atmosphere was suffocating for a girl who grew up in a small Hungarian village and who has never set foot in a palace. She knew there were whispers of disapproval for "this Hungarian whore". She spoke not a word of German, let alone alone the Viennese dialect, and she wasn't too sure what she was doing etiquette wise. Roderich did attempt to be of use, but perhaps he saw nothing wrong or different with his world. It was simply a way of life. To go from Elizabeta Hedevary to Elisabeth Annika von Edelstein was a horrible process. She definitely couldn't pursue her politics career in Vienna, and she was swept away into the aristocratic life she simply wasn't born for. She realized just how much her in-laws despised her (they made her aunt, mother, and brother sit backside for the wedding, and weren't very nice when it came to outfitting her father for the ceremony), hated everything she did, how she simply wasn't of their world. They probably had other intentions with who their son was to marry. She tried everything to adapt, but she always seemed to fall short. Her breaking point was perhaps the pressure she received to continue the von Edelstein line. She was criticized for bearing no children at least a year after the ceremony. She was emotionally abused for the fact behind Roderich's back. The two did eventually end up expecting a child, but due to the emotional stress and the cruelty of luck and fate, she miscarriaged, which shattered her heart and hardened it all the same. The way she came to cope with her situation was to mind her beauty, since she was allowed not much freedom in her new life. It was the only aspect she could control, and it did sometimes help spite her in-laws.She had to look the part of the future Countess von Edelstein, after all. She used her money to keep up with her appearances, wearing the highest and latest fashions, owning the highest quality cosmetics, and visiting her personal hairstylist daily. She had grown bitter and a bit conceited when it came to that. But it was a way to cope, and it was a way to take some control. Arguing and fists never worked in this world, as it seemed. She did really love her husband, she really did. The reason why she would put up with all his parents' demands was because of the love of her husband, but what had finally set her up for a divorce was the fact he never stood up for her against his parents. It seemed like the only act of rebellion he ever did manage against them was marry her. He did see how miserable she was, did try to comfort her, but sometimes it came to "Why don't you listen to them, too?" That closed her door. She came to an ultimatum: his parents or her. He was no strong man, and she saw how happy his parents were to watch over the two of them signing divorce papers. Roderich begged her to stay, but sh wouldn't have it. She was not Erzsi. She lo longer wished to be Elisabeth Annika von Edelstein either. And so now she has her name. Elizabeta Ann Hedevary She had gotten nowhere with her short marriage, and she was pretty antsy with how her future was looking. By hiring herself a good lawyer, she had managed to get a sizable fortune from the divorce settlement. She purchased herself a flat and decided to finally start her law practice. She kept the middle name that she had chosen during her marriage, but "anglified" it. It was a name that went through the melancholy with her. She was no longer a stranger to the socialite scene, thanks to having been thrust right into it unwillingly, but she had no plans to simply escape it. No, it was much easier to find herself connections in the elite echelons of society. She was still kept a close eye on for what her next moves would be, given that she had divorced someone of a high standing. She wasn't going to feed them stories of a weakened woman, though. She often served as a prosecuting attorney within her law practice. She kept tabs on people when she attended socialite events, attempted to gain some influence through charm. After much work and perseverance (and quite a hard trail in politics, given her background), somehow managed to become a member of parliament, representing the Labour Party. She joined the Justice Select Committee and Public Accounts Select Committee. She works hard in her endeavors, advocating many reform programs, voting for increases in the law enforcement budget, participating in debates. She may not get along with everyone in her party, but at least now, she's making a mark for herself. |

"How are the investigations going?" she said in a whispered tone. "You're a very daring lady, aren't you Hedevary. To think, a high-ranking politician coming to Scotland Yard and working alongside the police! Won't the press have a field day with you, if they saw you working alongside the police," Private Investigator Jules Browning said. "I'm a hands-on person, is all," she said. "I wonder why you didn't decide to go into private investigation or the MI6. You would have been a great asset over there, might I say," Browning said. She chuckled at the statement. "I do enjoy direct involvement, I'll admit to that, but sometimes, being... a bit above does help. You get longer arms, for one," she said, crossing her arms. "You really aren't good at this 'staying out of other people's businesses' thing, are you, then? I swear, you can be even more active and helpful in our department than many of the subordinates," Browning said, blowing a smoke from his cigar. "Tell you what, though. Yes, the investigations are going good. You are a great asset when it comes to our corruption investigations. You can talk to MI6 about that. Your leads were right— but we're having some... trouble with corruption claims. It's difficult to catch them in the act, and you very well know that, though I doubt your personal vendetta against the Director of the CI. Are you sure you want to go ahead with that? They haven't found any evidence of your claims—" "Browning, quiet. It isn't a personal vendetta, I swear," she said, frowning. Though she probably did hold a personal grudge, she swore it upon her shiniest frying pan, that man was a threat to national security! She swore, she could see through the bullshit and smooth demeanor. She was onto him, on the prowl. She needed to search for that incriminating evidence, something that would point to treachery. It was too bad that he was simply so smooth about wiping his traces. "And it isn't in my place to question whether it really is or not. I trust you know what you're doing, and you aren't planning on starting the scandal of the century. He's a member of your own party for crying out loud. Don't taint your name. You're up to be director of the Justice Select Committee, after all. Don't screw up." "I won't. If I do... I've failed my mission for justice, then. And I won't be accepting defeat." |
