Sometimes you meet someone and you just know they are destined to be great or do great things. Other times you meet people who can scare the pants off you without trying. Mathias is one of those people. His size and muscular frame scare others until they see his cheerful face and they know he's a great friend to have.

Humor: He has a great sense of humor and can find the humor in just about anything. You can almost always see him with a smile on his face. He has a bad habit of taking jokes to far sometimes and won't realize until its too late.
Easy-going: He is surprisingly a very laid-back and easy-going man. It takes a lot to upset him. He does have a temper but you wouldn't know it upon meeting him. There are certain things and people who set him off immediately but those are rare and very few.
Vigorous: Despite his easy-going nature, Mathias has lots of energy. He can keep going and going and going. This energy can try even the mightiest of patients and his vigor will still win.
Intelligent: Mathias doesn't appear to be very intelligent when you first meet him and when it comes to book smarts that's pretty much true. However Denmark has more common-sense and street smarts then most. He learned the hard lessons of the streets through fighting and notices things about others without them ever realizing it.
Kind: Despite his intimidating appearance, Mathias is very kind. He's gone through some tough things in life and knows how far a kind gesture can go. Mathias has been known to give free drinks to those who he thinks needs it, but will also stop those who are trying to drown there sorrows. He's a firm believer in tough love and will throw people out of his bar because of it.
Stubborn: This man is stubborn to a fault. Once his mind is made up on something, not even logic will change it. He'll argue until he's blue in the face even if he is in the wrong.
Dense: Mathias can be as dense as a two ton block of cement. Factual and intellectual things go over his head a good portion of the time due to his skipping school so often as a teen as well as subtle insults. While he can read body language well, he's at a loss when it comes to verbal language.
Controlling: His whole life pretty much being out of control has made Mathias into a bit of a control-freak especially to the people in his life. It makes him seem clingy, but Mathias is afraid of losing anybody else in his life so he wants to know what's going on always. He's doesn't care for surprises much because of this.
Bossy: Mathias likes to give orders, not take them. Spending most of his life being independent and taking care of himself has lead him to believe he knows whats best for him and those around him.
Troublemaker: Mathias does not mean to cause trouble. Trouble likes to find him all the time. Most of it is not his fault, somehow he ends up getting caught up in it. Other times he does cause it intentionally or unintentionally, nobody ever really knows.

Alcohol: Mathias is a Danish man, he likes alcohol. However the situation with his father has taught Mathias to respect alcohol and not to abuse it. Its a policy he carries even in his pub which many don't follow and they find themselves thrown out.
Family: Given what happened to his family, Mathias puts a lot of emphasis on family. He hates seeing parents mistreat their kids, or vice versa. He has been known to bop kids on the head when seeing them be rude to their parents.
Motorcycle: Mathias absolutely refuses to ride in cars. He thinks they are screaming metal death traps. He can't stand bicycles because they are too slow. He likes the speed and freedom that come with riding a motorcycle.
People: Mathias is an extrovert, he gets energy from being around people. The more people he's around the louder and more energetic he is. He almost feeds off others' energy and doubles it with his own.
Celebrations: Mathias has fond memories of Denmark's celebrations. Every holiday and tradition had loud and elaborate celebrations. He tries to do the same with in London much to the annoyance of others.

Wastefulness: Mathias growing up with very little in life, he hates seeing things go to waste especially if there is nothing wrong with them in the first place. He likes to find new purposes for things that don't have to be thrown away.

Being told what to do: He's use to making decisions for himself. He has a bad habit of believing others decisions are worse or won't work so he will only go along with his ideas unless forced to follow others.
Formality: He doesn't care for formality. He thinks being formal is just a way to hide your true self and doesn't like it at all.
Losing: He's extremely competitive and does not like to lose at all. Mathias can be a bit of a sore loser. However it doesn't last long which is usually when he asks for a rematch.
Loneliness: Being an extrovert, loneliness is the enemy to him. He doesn't like the feeling of lonelinees and will do anything to make it go away.

Fears

To have a family: Family means everything to Mathias and losing his has made him crave having another. He was too young and too foolish to protect his first family. If he ever gets another family, Mathias has vowed to make sure it will be happy and safe, no matter what.
To own his own business: Mathias does not own the pub where he works despite him calling it "his pub". He is constantly saving money either to buy the pub where he works or build his own. It doesn't matter how but he will own his own bar/pub one day.Its just a matter of time.
To go back to Denmark: Mathias hasn't been back to Denmark since he was ten. As most of his funds go to bills, groceries, and savings he hasn't been able to afford going back to his homeland. He hopes to go back soon but who knows if it will happen.

Being alone : Mathias is truly terrified of being alone. He won't ever admit it but its the truth. He actively seeks out company now that his father has passed and he has no other relations that he knows of.
Small Spaces: Mathias isn't quite sure why he is scared of small spaces. Maybe because he's big or who knows? It could just be one of those irrational fears we all have. Mathias doesn't remember and his father never told him but he was in the car accident with his mother. His body remembers the feeling of being trapped even though his mind doesn't.
Ghosts: Mathias being the control freak that he is doesn't like things he can't control. Ghosts are a sort of representation of that. Ghosts are unstoppable forces that you can't control and it terrifies him to lose that control.

Background

Mathias was raised in a typical Danish family in Copenhagen. Mathias was well loved by his mother and father as their only son and child. When Mathias was small, he often gave his parents panic attacks with his adventurous nature. Half the time his exploring was more of his getting lost. His father worked in an international furniture company. When Mathias was ten years old, his father was transferred from the Copenhagen store to the London store. Mathias was not happy with this move seeing as London was very different from Copenhagen; in Copenhagen Mathias had a lot more freedom than he did in London. They hadn’t been in London for very long before Mathias’s mother passed away in a car accident. His father took to drinking more than even the Danish considered acceptable.

Mathias took to spending more time on the streets than going home and dealing with the mess waiting for him there. It’s here that he learned to fight and gained a love for fighting. He gained a ton of street smarts even though his schooling suffered from it due to him skipping all the time. Just short of Mathias’ 17th birthday, he came home to find his father lying in his own sick and unresponsive. Not hesitating to call the ambulance, it was the most defining moment in Mathias’ young life. Instead of taking care of each other, Mathias and his father had pushed other away from their grief over Mathias’ mother. Mathias swore on the ride to the hospital that should his father survive Mathias would to take better care of his father since his father couldn’t care for himself. His father barely survived that night, he came out of the whole ordeal with a ruined liver.

His father lost his job and the family fell into financial trouble. Mathias knew with his father wouldn't be able to get another job with his illness so Mathias took it upon himself to study hard to take his GSCEs so he could get a good job to take care of his father. He managed to pass and was able to go to a vocational school and got a certificate in bartending. Shortly after getting his certification, he got a job at a small pub in the center of London. Mathias spent his first six months working there cleaning up the pub while it was in bad shape. Mathias' father condition was constantly getting worse. It wasn't long before Mathias’ father passed away due to liver poisoning. This hurt Mathias horribly. He ended up putting all of his time and grief into working at the pub. Mathias loves working at the pub and due to his size and past there aren’t many who are brave enough to cause trouble in the pub.

Role-Play Sample

A tall blond man was currently standing behind a counter cleaning shot glasses as he surveyed the pub. It was a quiet night for once. This was good. Mathias was in no mood to deal with troublemakers today, thank you very much. The pub used to be full of unsavory types before Mathias became the bartender. Of course unsavory types still visited the pub, but they knew better than to piss off Mathias. Though Mathias was officially the bartender, he also acted as the bouncer and had no problems doing it. Mathias remembered fondly of his first day working at the pub.

Mathias had just gotten his certification in drinks and bartending and whatnot. His 22nd birthday was coming up as well. He knew the pub he wanted to work at well, he couldn’t count how many times he had to pick up his drunken dad from there. Mathias quickly pushed the pain that followed that thought to the side. His far had been dead for four years now; he should be over it by now. He took a few steps into his new work place and it was chaotic.

Fists were flying and so was the furniture. That annoyed Mathias; a lot of hard work went into making furniture and here these guys were using and abusing them. The poor bartender was hiding behind the counter and the bouncer seemed to have joined in on the “fun”. This was bordering on ridiculous. This place used to be calm and well-managed. Now it was a madhouse. Mathias knew the owner from when his dad used to come here had passed away some time ago and his son took over. Was the owner’s son not prepared for taking over the pub or did he just not care? Well Mathias’ first job was going to be to clean up house.
