Marianne De Vries Marianne is a sweet, doting, motherly type. She’s a very social butterfly, so her and friends are a given. She’s one hell of a drinker and can drink the best of the boys under the table if given the chance. It would be the biggest mistake to think this wallflower can’t be a fun-loving party girl. So her plus a good time is sure to happen whether you get her demure, sweetie side or her fun-loving social side. |

When people first meet Marianne, most can’t help but think of what a cheerful young woman she is. And this is quite the truth. The Belgian woman is almost always smiling- genuinely to the surprise of some- due to the fact she takes such great appreciation in the little things in life. The mundane things that others tend to overlook in the tense tragedy that can be the world around. While some may find it silly or cliché for her to gain such happiness from the normally insignificant things in life, Marianne doesn’t find this to be true at all. If you’re going to wait around for extraordinary or unusual or miraculous things to come around and make you happy, your smiles are going to be few and far between. So why not enjoy the things you do often? You only live once, after all. This is more along the lines of how the blonde tries to keep such a cheerful vibe about herself. Being so sunshine-y though, typically isn’t enough to make a person stand out or catch anyone’s eye. This is the case of Marianne. She’s physically fairly easy on the eyes; but her plain, inconspicuous clothes tend to downplay that fact more often than not. Her smile is lovely (as is the case of all genuine smiles); but she smiles so often, it seems to have become one of those mundane things that get overlooked easily. Her personality can be quite charming; but she doesn’t speak very loudly unless she‘s shouting, and is easily bullied into other’s bidding. All of these little things about her.. Have, in time, turned Marianne into a quiet (for the most part), wallflower. She doesn’t mind, its all she’s ever known really; though from time to time, her mind does tend to wonder what it would be like to be the center of attention just once. As mentioned earlier, Marianne is quite easily pushed around and bullied. She doesn’t like confrontation of any kind. Physical fighting, verbal arguing or simply tense situations; she really hates them. Because of how much she dislikes these, she often winds up just going along with the demands of others, simply to avoid arguing with them. It doesn’t help her situation that she’s usually not a very adamant person; it doesn’t take much for a more aggressive personality to persuade her- one way or another- into doing as they ask. Not to mention… She can be a bit of a cry-baby, she tries not to show it though. She puts on a ‘brave face’. All that aside... The Belgian is quite the little snuggle-bug most times. She’s often hugging or leaning against someone if they’re standing; Snuggling or cuddling with them if they’re seated. Holding hands is another one of her little joys in life; this simple, little act of friendship (or even something more) can make her truly happy for days on end. Do to her affectionate nature, she often forgets that not everyone is as comfortable with physical contact and physical affection as she is. Once she realizes the other person isn’t as touchy as her, she’ll be more understanding, but she is rather mischievous so there is the chance she might tease them a bit as well. Despite how wall-flower like she can seem, it also can’t be under-estimated how fun-loving this woman is. She likes to tease, she likes to drink. No, she loves to drink, and sometimes that’s not always good. As the woman already possesses little concern for the show of nudity, --you can really blame the French half for that--- when this woman who can probably drink the best of them under the table actually becomes drunk it isn’t unlikely that you’ll find her clothes up a tree the next morning. |

+Her Siblings (Most of the time) +Alcohol; She loves alcohol. Beer most specifically. German Beer, Dutch Beer, mostly Belgian Beer. Wines, especially French and Italian and Spanish wines, among other things. Anything alcoholic is her delight. She’s pretty good at holding her liquor, but she becomes a rather easily amused, giggly, and affectionate drunk when she’s done herself in. +Chocolate; she loves the stuff. It’s great for her nerves and she feels even calmer when she’s in a kitchen making it. It also brings a smile to her face when other’s enjoy the chocolate that she makes with her whole heart. +Ribbons; she’s always wore one in her hair since she was a little girl. They’re usually a good indication as to her mood; she tends to unconsciously pick lighter colors for her happier moods and darker colors for her sadder ones. +Food; especially gourmet. Though she doesn’t eat all that much, Marianne absolutely adores food; constantly wanting to take a little nibble of everyone else’s meal and just get to try some of everything. Wafels, fries, tomatoes and chocolates being her favorites. +Gardens/farms (Flowers always make everything so pretty! Plus, Fresh veggies, who doesn’t like that? +Colors; Bright, vivid, pretty colors are so nice and cheerful! +Mixing Her languages; Mari knows Dutch, French, and German -oh and of course English, but everyone knows that. Thusly, she -despite the fact it happens naturally when she’s upset or flustered- likes mixing the three fore-mentioned to confuse people when she’s toying with them. +Making Friends; Social butterfly that she is, Mari likes making tons of friends. +Baking and Cooking; Not only does she like eating yummy foods, she loves making them too! +Embroidery and Sewing; It’s very calming and the designs can be cute! +Fluffy little animals; They’re so cute! What isn’t to love? +Music; Jazz, classical, modern, country, music of all sorts is entertaining and pleasant on the ears. +Smurfs; So cute and funny! +Fairy Tales; Dreaming is so nice! +Dancing; Waltz, Tango, Samba, or just ‘cutting loose and fancy free’ getting out all that unhealthy stress by dancing is not only good but also fun! +Carnivals; Such festive atmospheres, fun rides and occasionally there’s something yummy! | -Bland foods; considering how much of a gourmet she is when it comes to foods and how much she loves to cook for those around her.. When she sees or, even worse, tastes bland or badly cooked food, she’ll pout and refuse to eat until the quality is improved. Unless of course she’s trying to not hurt a person’s feelings. That’s the only time she’ll eat it and keep a smile, even if it kills her. -Being alone; the Belgian is simply, such a people-person, she doesn’t quite know what to do with herself when she’s alone. The only exception to this is when she’s cooking or cleaning. Other than that, she really prefers -even if it’s only companionable silence, to be around another being. -Prudes for a lack of better words; Marianne is rather a free spirit when it comes to whether or not she wears all her clothes. And she finds that the body -any body- is a beautiful piece of art. To have stiff people ridicule another’s body simple because they’re more comfortable in their skin, drives her insane. -Bullies; She knows full well how sad it feels to be bullied. So she isn’t exactly fond of them. To be completely honest, she thinks if some one wants to bully, they should go take a flying leap! But sadly, she still always manages to get bullied into things. -Having her food rejected; She puts love into every piece of food she makes. So to have it rejected or wasted makes her very, very upset and sulky. And there’s no two ways about it, her discontent is obvious. -Being called gullible or naïve; While it may be true. It’s very rude to point it out! -Cruelty; It’s just wrong! And there’s definitely a line between getting things down and outright cruelty. -Rejection; Who likes to be rejected? No one. And she’s such a sensitive soul, she cries. -’snobs’; She thinks it’s silly to consider some one superior to some one else, and it’s rude to act like anyone’s inferior to you. -Scary movies; Well, scary stuff in general. Scary movies and going through haunted houses is great and all if you want cuddled and clung to, But Mari would cuddle and cling even without it, so adding it is only useful if you’re a sadist. -Sad commercials; About abused, homeless animals and children. She feels so sorry for them and they make her so sad! -Revenge; She doesn’t understand the point of it. Isn’t it better to just forgive but never forget? |
Dreams | Fears |
+Family; Marianne wants children, but more specifically a family. She has two siblings, and she’s always done her best to be very motherly and helpful. So she hopes to have children in such a wonderful and loving environment that she’d always wished her family could have stayed. +Café; So a nice warm, family atmosphered Café sounds wonderful to her. Because the vibe and the people coming in daily and being able to remember their faces and names and ask them about the kids and such seems like a splendid life. Still she loves her Daycare job too much to consider trying to switch to a waitress to get the feel and she’d never be able to save up enough to open her own on a daycare worker salary. +Alcohol; Marianne wants to try all the alcohol in the world! She prefers a good old beer. But she’d really like to get to try all the types even if just once. Even a Snake Wine she’s heard of, although it does seem a little gross. But yeah, in general, lots of good alcohol in her future is a small dream she feels she can realize, maybe someday she can try them all. +Spending more time with her siblings; Because of their various jobs and their estrangement from the parents’ divorce. They don’t all see each other quite as often as she would like. She hopes to change that to the point they see each other so much they both get sick of her. +Fall in love; Not that she hasn’t had boyfriends before. But Mari is much too romantic for her own good. She daydreams about finding a guy so phenomenal and cute that her heart will beat a thousand miles per second. +Spoil her two cats and beagle even more; Not that she doesn’t spoil them enough. But she wants to spoil them more and more to the point they could never complain because they do so much for her. They give her love, affection, attention, and they listen to all her woes, all her excitements, everything she has to say to them. +Live with no regrets; Mari hopes to live a complete and honest life so she doesn’t have to pass on with any regrets. | -Loveless Relationship; It may seem shameless, but Marianne would sooner be the mistress of a man who loves her (and vice versa ) than the wife of a man who doesn’t love her (And vice versa). If she had to marry a man who didn’t love her, there would be no point in starting the family she wants because it would be too cruel to the children in her eyes. -Lose the ability to use her hands; Belgie LOVES cooking, and doing so many other things that require using your hands. So the idea of losing the ability, whereas not often popping up, is quite scary for her. And besides that… Who really would want to lose such a useful ability as being able to do things and hold things? -Drowning; Marianne isn’t a very good swimmer, so she’s always fretful of drowning, even though she loves playing in water. She’ll avoid it unless she has floaties or a life jacket or a friend to cling onto. And unfortunately, she’s the type who can’t think rationally in such situation. She panics and ends up doing herself in worse than actually saving herself. -People being sad when she passes on; She’d much rather them laugh, dance and sing on her grave, and spill a beer or two for her. -Hurting others; Her non-confrontational personality isn’t just about fear of being hated, she often feels a deep sense of guilt when she feels as if she’s hurt some one. She’s very sensitive to these things and it can make her quite depressed. -Resentment; More particularly, she fears her own resentment toward her parents for breaking up her happy place. She feels her resentment toward what they had to do makes her a very horrible and cruel person. -Clowns; Those are some scary shizz, okay, even for the cheery Miss Mari? -Vandalism of holy objects; She’s very religious and superstitious. So such things make her incredibly uneasy. -Dying with regrets; She does not want to become a ghost! She wants to go to heaven. -Losing her siblings completely; Just the idea of it makes her cry. -Being left at the altar!; No really. She’s had nightmares about this. She finds the perfect guy. The one she wants to spend her life with. And even those she never sees his face, the feeling of getting left at the altar makes her wake in a cold sweat and bawling her eyes out. -Broer scaring off any man who would WANT to marry her; It’s scary because it’s a very real possibility. |
Background |
Growing up, Marianne’s family was poor. But she never found a reason to complain. Her family did their best to keep food in her belly, a roof over her head, a brain in her head, and a heart in her chest. They were always loving and affectionate. She never cared that she didn’t have what the other kids had. She had something so much better than could be bought. She loved helping her mother take care of Elise when Elise was a baby -even though she was only three when Elise was born. She adored following her brother around, though she was never any help with her odd jobs as she’d always been rather physically frail. But it was fun. Everyday was full of fun and warmth and it could just bring a smile to her face for days on end. She grew up happy, healthy, and quite bright. Of course there were people who bullied her, but not because of her social standing. It was more like girls that wanted to be superior and little boys who only knew how to torment their crush. Otherwise, Mari had quite a wonderful school life as she was very thoughtful and kind. She honestly thought nothing could ever go wrong for them. She wasn’t a fool. She’d heard her parents hushed whispers during the night about foreclosure and homeless, but she saw no reason to be down-hearted about it. Quite the opposite. She worked even harder to do good in school and be even more cheery. If she could do good in school, she could get a good job to support her family. If she stayed positive, it might help everyone else’s mood. And things seemed to be going good as her father started bringing home more money. Though she had no clue where the excess came from, her mother seemed incredibly happy. They bought more things for the children, though Mari would only reply when asked what she wanted, “Clothes”, “Food”, “Baking Supplies”, “Books”, and other useful items. She wasn’t one for frivolities. She believed they still needed to watch their intake and outsource. Not that she didn’t eye an item here or there. But it would be too much to ask for more when she already got so much. She started seeing less and less of her brother and he wouldn’t let her come with on his odd jobs anymore. Next thing she knew, her mother was getting a divorce from her father and she was being pulled away from her big brother and bawling her eyes out. She quickly fixed herself of her depression after the move though. She had to be strong, and cheerful, and optimistic for her little sister. She tried her hardest to take care of Elise while she still lived with them… However, when she was old enough, she moved out. She decided to move to Belgium for a short two years and then she moved to England. She decided, since there was no need to support anyone but herself now, to get a job as a daycare worker instead of one of the perfectly well-paying jobs she could take. She loved children and she’d rather work taking care of them than something else. So thus far, her days have been peacefully filled and content. Though she hopes to get more time with her siblings now that she’s out of the nest, so to speak. FF: Though Mari is technically Dutch, her parents were in Belgium when her mother went into labour with her. |

The woman was shoved, rather so too. Had he been shoving a human, they probably would have fell backwards and knocked their head on the headstone behind them. Luckily for the Belgian woman she had a rather feline affinity with balance. Usually. Marianne actually felt slightly amused when the man stood between her and the head-stone. It was almost cute to see some one actually caring for the dead instead of treating them like they didn’t matter. But that didn’t change the fact, Marianne’s beliefs on how to deal with them did not coincide with the man’s. What’s more is she found it extremely rude that he had actually shoved her. It could have been dealt with much more civilly, like asking her to get off. Or grabbing her and yanking her off, not shoving her off the head-stone. The woman placed her hands on her hips, the tail swished, haughtily, back and forth on it’s own. At first the woman was going to stare the man down again, but she had to admit he was right about being more respectful, and at least his heart was in the right place. He just wanted to make things more comfortable for the dead, right? So rather than using a tone with him, the woman just relaxed her stance and her tail. She kept the pleasant smile and said in a gentle manner, “You’re right. I should be more careful about that. However, if I had fell and hit my head, what would you have done? At worst I would die. At best I would be caught if I didn’t wake up before anyone came. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want that forced on me, so I wouldn’t want to force some one else to endure either fate.” The woman waggled her finger at the man with an air of humor. Probably not the best person to be full of sun-shines with, but everyone should have the best in them looked for! The woman continued on her friendly little lecture, “Besides. If I died… I’d want people to dance on my grave, spray beer everywhere, and say I was still fun to be with. I’d want some one to come visit often, hug my grave, and talk to me like I still exist. I wouldn’t want some man standing over it in the form of a behemoth dog, with a gloomy disposition. It makes the air too thick. You have a cute face so smile more, ma cherie.” The woman turned away from him and continued waltzing toward the church, in a much better disposition than before. She wasn’t really scared anymore. If this man actually wanted to hurt anyone, he would have hurt her, not tried scaring her off with words. Her voice was more of a cheerful and amused chirp than anything as she called back at him, “Remove me? I have faith in my ability to run. Faster than you if we’re both on two legs, liebe.” |
