[cs=3] Friendly - This man is always wearing a smile. He is always greeting people he passes and partaking in any random act of kindness he can think of. He will stand at a door, holding it open, for three minutes, just so that everyone who needs to can get in. He is an incredibly happy person and in turn loves to see and make people happy. Steve has a bit of a contagious smile in most cases and is the kind to prod at someone just for the sake of getting them to smile along with him. Steve has lived most of his life having to step up in his family and take responsibility for his siblings and that has molded him into a kind and caring person. Care Free- Steve is one of the most happy-go-lucky people you could possibly meet. If he has troubles, he tends to cast them away from him so that he may properly go about his happy business. He believes that life is best lived happy and therefore tries his best to shut out all of the negativity he comes in contact with. In the end, it has stained him with a bit of inappropriateness due to his need to stay away from seriousness. Stubborn - If Steve has his mind set to something, you can believe he isn’t going to rest until his goal is reached. He’s also very firm with his beliefs and doesn’t take kindly to trying to be swayed another direction. Steve has gotten himself in many stupid and avoidable situations simply on the fact that he thought that he had no other option than to go through with whatever he had in mind. Athletic - Having grown up mainly occupying himself sports when he wasn’t rescuing animals or taking care of his siblings, Steve has formed himself into quite the athlete. He enjoys all sorts of various sports from rugby and cricket to the more… outgoing, such as surfing, rock climbing and propelling. Since moving to England, Steve hasn’t found any opportunity to practice such exclusive sports as those that were available in his home country. Quick Witted - The boy has always been a quick thinker and has always prided himself on it. Regardless of whether or not it’s just a trademark of the Kirkland family, Steve has his wits. He’s fairly skilled in being able to get himself out of hairy situations in record time with few tracks left behind. He of course appreciated this in his younger years as a curious high school student. Ambitious - Steve is proud to call himself a go-getter. Throughout his life, he has had no other means of motivation other than the fact that he wants to prove people wrong and leave a good trail behind for his siblings. He was without any sort of general encouragement for most of his life and found his own ambition through the extreme desire for making his siblings happy. Blunt - Steve is not afraid to ‘tell it like it is’. In fact, he’s been brutally honest most of his life. Part of it is his sense of humor, the other part is a sort of snide undertone hidden in his personality. Though it is mainly him trying to get a few kicks, and sometimes Steve doesn’t even realize it in the first place, he can also use it as a defense mechanism. Determined - Ambition, determination and stubbornness all play hand-in-hand to make Steve who he really is. He’s incredibly hard headed and thick skulled, it being nearly impossible to sway him from anything he’s set out to accomplish. All of these factors have contributed from Steve being put aside most of his life, which eventually developed into the strong desire to move forward and prove people wrong. Flippant - Steve pretty much refuses to believe that he can’t find a silver lining in any sort of situation. Of course, sometimes this optimism just isn’t called for and not everyone really enjoys it. He just tries to be hopeful and inspiring to but most it can be read as inappropriate. Steve will back away when he needs to but usually someone has to tell him first. Reckless - Steve is in no way afraid to get his hands dirty and sure doesn’t mind to scrape and scrap. Of course he means well but anyone who somehow gets tangled up roughhousing with him is in for quite a rough ride. Steve just simply claims that a little survival of the fittest never hurt anyone. Vulgar - Steve is known far and wide for his colorful vocabulary that could quite easily put a sailor to shame. This definitely does not help clear his name of inappropriateness. When around his younger siblings, Steve almost always tries to watch what he says, figuring that they are just as impressionistic as he was—which could be a dangerous thing. It’s not really like it’s anything they’ve never heard before but, again, Steve wants nothing more than to set a good example for them. Generous - There is no greater joy for him than making people smile. Giving up an umbrella on a rainy day is nothing but second nature. Steve grew up having to live a selfless life for his siblings so he’s always been accustomed to putting others ahead of him for the sake of nothing more than random acts of kindness. He greatly enjoys it—when he was younger, for the self fulfillment but now because it’s just who he is. | ||

Animals - Steve has always been close to his siblings and enjoyed their company. But, there was a time before that when Steve found his only company amongst the pets he would bring home in his pockets. Steve found the various lizards and rodents he could hide from his nanny in his pockets amusing for some time, them being awfully good conversationalists. But, eventually, he began to find himself at the zoo on a daily basis. He got to know the employees and the animals and eventually he began bringing his siblings and teaching them the things he had learned. Since then, Steve has found himself most comfortable in the company of animals. He is without a doubt a people person still, but his heart holds a special place for furry friends. Nature - Early in his school years, Steve found a strange fascination with the wild. It was nothing like he was used to and found comfort in its simplicity. He has confided in nature and all its creatures throughout his life, eventually leading him to his career as a zoologist and wildlife specialist. As a teen, Steve would throw himself out in the outback on survival excursions, most of the time without company, and would force himself to learn survival skills. Sometimes he would take his siblings in hopes of passing on some knowledge. His Family - Steve has a very passive aggressive relationship with his family. He pretty much raised his siblings himself while the rest of the family, his parents included, disregarded him most of his life. Eventually, he transferred colleges and moved off, away from the family only to reunite with distant relatives in England. Even those who have no interest in him at all, Steve can’t help but love. He’s that kind of person. He may not always forget but he does forgive almost always. Having Company - Steve does enjoy his quiet moments out in the wild but he is as much a people person as he is an animal person and thrives off good company. Steve loves to talk no matter how big or small the conversation; he loves to joke around and make people smile and mostly he loves to cheer people up and put them in a good mood. Laughing - He is a firm believer that laughter is the greatest medicine. Laughing is probably his favorite pastime along with getting other people to laugh. A good laugh can make an entire day better and thus Steve strives to start and end his laugh with a few chuckles. | Being Disregarded - Steve has been set aside most of his life; either having been handed to a rather uninterested caretaker or having to tough it out on his own. Most would’ve probably developed some sort of personal isolationalism from this but Steve had reverse effects. He’s always been friendly and energetic, enjoying what attention he could get, but in this time he learned to treasure what time with others he had. He also learned to appreciate the company of animals seeing as how they never judged him or turned away. Losing - Being a very athletic type, Steve is very competitive. Strong ambition and determination do not mix well when success is not the outcome. He’s not the type to disregard sportsmanship but that does not mean it doesn’t bother him. Negativity - If Steve could, he would put a positive mood to everything. He has personally banned himself from attending funerals because he doesn’t know how to handle them. Steve has never been without negative emotions, he only chooses to ignore them. The sadder he is, the happier he tries to make everyone around him. Seeing People Unhappy - Steve has always found himself without much praise or accomplishment as a young child. He found refuge in animals and accomplishment in sports but none of that really filled the void like he needed. Steve always found his biggest talent to make people happy and doing so has really made him feel like his existence mattered. Being Alone - Having lived most of his early life mentally on his own, Steve likes to keep company around when at all possible. Being alone, for him, usually leads to him thinking and that’s a dangerous pastime for Steve. When he thinks too long on something it puts him in a bad mood and the only way to improve it is for him to find himself either among animals where he can spill his sorrows or among people where he can forget about them entirely. | His Siblings Leaving Him Behind - From the turning point in Steve’s life, his world basically revolved around his siblings. He refused to let them grow up as he did without all the constant care and affection he was deprived of. He loves his siblings more than anything in the world and will stop at nothing to make them happy. He fixes his bad habits when they’re around, tries to set a good example and does his best to raise them to be the best people they can be. Steve fears the day that they have to move on and start their own lives but he could not live with himself if they should ever part ways on bad terms. Ending Up Alone - Steve has always had friends come and go in his life and he’s been okay with that so long as he’s had company. Now that he’s moved off, far away from home, he is without any sort of companions other than his family. He’s never been one for romance, never having been able to take it seriously like he should. Thus Steve fears that he might ultimately end up completely alone in old age. Failure - Failure comes in many shapes and forms. Steve fears that he might fail to raise his siblings properly; he fears that he might end up unsuccessful in his career. Steve hates to let people down for he can’t bare the idea of being a disappointment to anyone. He knows that he can’t be successful in everything he does and that’s probably what scares him the most; he’s never sure when failure might rare his head and he knows for a fact that he won’t be prepared. Death - It is no secret that Steve loves his life. He lives it as a servant to his siblings and the wellbeing of others and animals. It is not the process of dying that he fears—otherwise he wouldn’t be quite so adventurous—but instead the idea of being gone—no longer in existence. He knows that he’d leave behind all sorts of unfinished business; advice to give to his siblings, people to make feel better, animals to take care of. He very well plans to work until the day he dies because, to him, his job is never done. |

[cs=3] History |
[cs=3] On the far branch of the Kirkland family tree, there are a few people who live outside of the Isles. Steve’s father was the first of the Kirkland clan to actually be born in Australia, his grandparents having moved there for business and a different view. His father met his mother through his job, both of them working similar jobs at the same large corporation. They had a very small and simple wedding and lived out the rest of their lives in Sydney. Steven Nigel was born the first child to this small branch of Kirklands and his siblings didn’t come along for some time later. Both of his parents were very good at their job and began climbing higher up the company work ladder in no time. The path of the workaholic was quickly laid out for them and, to Steve’s future dismay, they took it. Eventually, they were gone so often they had to hire a nanny for Steve. She wasn’t terrible but she definitely could’ve been more enthusiastic. Steve, having been graced with an old and dispassionate caretaker, quickly found refuge in his friends at school and animals he would bring home—without his nanny knowing of course. For a long while, Steve lived a lonely childhood, not seeing much of his parents, even when they were at home. Eventually that changed when his siblings came into the world. Steve was never a jealous older sibling; he had far aged beyond that point and it wasn’t as if he had much attention to lose anyway. Steve loved his siblings, at first just because he wasn’t alone any more. Steve was about eleven—all of the reactions of growing up a somewhat neglected child settling within him—when a very important idea came about him. He was watching his two little siblings one day, happy in their innocence, and wondered what sort of fate was in store for them. Would they find even as remote a refuge as he did with his animals? At that point, Steve wasn’t willing to take the risk. A parental essence within him, first emerging after taking in a few injured animals, ignited and he took on the full responsibility of raising his siblings to be happy people. For the first time in Steve’s young life he felt important, only because he was laying forth a better life for these two kids who so deserved it. From then on out, Steve lived his life trying to teach his siblings important lessons and be a good example. Steve found a knack for taking care of things and bringing joy to people. He flew through school, completely occupied by being voted class clown every year of his grade school career and keeping up with sports, meanwhile leading his siblings along the whole time. He had decided long before he even had to worry about college that he wanted to spend his life with people and animals at the same time. And thus, Steve set himself off on a long, determined path through school, coming out victorious with a PhD in zoology. Steve found his graduation to be invoking. His parents, though they congratulated him on his hard work and success, he found no gratitude from it. He instead told them that they should be complimenting his sister on her beautiful painting she had been working so hard on or patting his brother on the back for the good grades he had been getting. He told them all about how he had done that for years—how he was doing their job. Needless to say, they were shocked. He couldn’t live with himself and the guilt that followed, even though he had only done what was best. So, fresh out of grad school, Steve packed his bags and left for England with employment waiting for him at the London Zoo and family waiting somewhere in the city. And he took his siblings with him. It was no Sydney but Steve found comfort at the zoo. Working with the animals and visitors was pretty much all he had ever dreamed of. Eventually—Steve doesn’t even quite remember how—he was offered a hosting position for an educational television show based on his charisma and already vast knowledge of wildlife. He nearly wears himself beyond repair when he has to work both jobs but he gets to teach people about the things he loves and he brings home money to help his siblings. Steve couldn’t ask for anything more. |
