Hell; that was only nice word she could use to describe her day. Complete and utter hell. Elise was physically, mentally and even emotionally exhausted. As soon as she got home she felt guilty too, as her animals vocally let her know how they felt about her being late to give them dinner. After going about and feeding everyone, as well as smoothing over hurt feelings, she allowed herself to relax on the couch. Bern come over, nuzzling her leg to let her know she was forgiven and she scratched the cat absentmindedly. Maybe I should think of getting someone to look after them for me, she thought but quickly dismissed it. Elise was realistic and knew she just didn’t have the funds for something like that right now. Tiredly she shuffled into her room to change into plain clothes and to wipe off her grown-up lady make up.
Her stomach was roaring at her to fill it with something, since she barely had time for a sip of water today. Damn that Emma for getting food poisoning the night before the wedding! This wasn’t even her account she slaved over. She had to cram hundreds hours of prepping and knowledge into a few hours. If she wasn’t so damn adamant about getting another promotion soon she would stop working so hard so her supervisor didn’t notice her. Diana wasn’t even working on an account; why not pick her to cover!? Elise had a charity fundraiser to plan for next weekend. Sometimes she cursed her work ethic and pleasing nature.
A quick trip to the cupboards and looking at her to do list on the fridge reminded her that was supposed to have gone grocery shopping, on Tuesday. Why was it she remembered to pick up all her animals’ food and forget that she too needed to eat? And why did she even bothering keeping a to do list if she forgot it existed, even though it was right there, on the fridge. Elise wanted to bang her head against the fridge, maybe food would magically appear. Perhaps the magical food fairy would take pity on her and fill her fridge for free. Yeah right. With a sigh of defeat she donned her sweater, shoes and purse, and left her cozy apartment for the convenience store.
It wasn’t a terribly far walk and it was still light out thankfully. She was still new to the area but people waved to her and said good evening. Did she know any of them? None of them were actually her neighbours, that she was sure of. Well, sometimes it felt good to be part of a community. Her stomach reminded her to quicken the pleasantries and finally she got inside the store, greeted with another friendly welcome. A quick of scan of the store revealed her target, the quick to go foods section. All good breeding was thrown out the window when she saw the fresh baked goods, well, as fresh as they could be after sitting there all day. Her stomach would not be denied! Without any hesitation she grabbed a muffin and started eating it, right there.
With a sigh, she decided this once she had to lower her standards for cuisine and eat one of those pre-packaged microwavable subs. Elise popped a pizza sub in the microwave and grabbed another muffin, since the previous one was devoured instantly. Hell, well she was at it she was going to grab some snacks. It was a snack kind of day. As she moved to the back she grabbed a bag of candy and some pretzels before grabbing a bottle of root beer in the back fridge. Elise nibbled on the muffin with a bit more dignity this time as she waited for her sub to finish.
