Caitlin Murphy “Memory is all we are. Moments and feelings, captured in amber, strung on filaments of reason. Take a man’s memories and you take all of him. Chip away a memory at a time and you destroy him as surely as if you hammered nail after nail through his skull.” ― Mark Lawrence |

There are two conflicting sides to Caitlin which make her quite a challenging character to figure out. Negatives and positives clash together to make a mess of a personality which will change as rapidly as the weather in Scotland. To be entirely honest, Caitlin is still trying to work out who she is herself, making her quite the unpredictable young lady. For starters, she is an expert at wearing a mask and putting on a front. When serving at the Irish Lady Pub, during her “day job”, she is a ray of sunshine to all the customers which enter the place. Have you ever heard of the Irish welcome? World renowned for their hospitality, the Irish have a reputation for being a friendly nation of people. And that is a stereotypical mould which Caitlin forces herself to fit into when she is working. Warm, welcoming, friendly; the sort of woman who knows how to make people feel at home, someone who is often going out of her way to be hospitable and make people feel comfortable. A lively, energetic woman who is surprisingly friendly; she’s really the sort of person who always does her best to look on the bright side of life. However, do not ever question her intelligence. There’s no doubt about it; Caitlin Murphy is a street-wise woman. She’s spent enough time in London to know how to get around and find out information that could come in handy later. Quick thinking, she finds it easy to asses a situation and come up with a way to deal with it. Also cunning, using as much of her knowledge to weave herself into peoples’ lives and make them trust her. She has a sharpness that helps her come to swift conclusions and determine outcomes that can help her in any way she sees fit. She is perceptive as well, and notices everything. A slight change in mood, a tiny injury, anything that most people may not see. This can either be very useful... or only useful for Caitlin. It's bad news if she uses her perceptiveness against you. There is also an incredibly prideful streak to the young woman. Caitlin maintains the idea that she should remain independent. A headstrong, tomboyish woman, with a short fuse is the best way to describe her, really. She doesn’t want or need to rely on anybody, in her opinion, and she is certainly a woman who is as tough as nails. The redhead remains full of pride, and won’t let anybody put her down. Her opinion is important to her, and she won’t let anybody change it easily. Like the stereotype of redheads, Caitlin is a fiery and feisty lady who knows how to stand her own ground and has a bad temper. Add that to the fact that she has quite a short fuse, and you'd better run for cover. Her temper means that usually she doesn't think things through properly and just gets incredibly angry instead of calmly trying to resolve an issue. She’s been through plenty of fights in her past, and has an attitude to prove it. You do not want to piss her off, for when she gets really angry, she can scare pretty much anyone with a glare. That or she’ll just punch you in the eye. Her temper is infamous, along with her tough exterior and rough, rather harsh attitude. So she won’t be putting up with any nonsense from all those drunk customers! In regards to the above point, Caitlin is incredibly stubborn, so much so she’ll ignore advice from others and go forward with her plans or do her own thing, which sometimes isn't the best idea. However, she'll refuse to accept her mistakes, and can end up causing tensions or bad feelings between others due to her lack of open-mindedness. She is a woman who clearly hates to be proven wrong. Appearing to be slightly stuck up at first, Caitlin will always be ready to start an argument with anyone who tells her she’s wrong or anyone who undermines her. She tends to enjoy getting into heated arguments with people over the smallest thing, and tends to use a foul, very unladylike mouth in those circumstances. Not that she cares about being ladylike; she believes that your gender should not define your personality. Anyone who makes any comment on how ladies should not be so brash is immediately disliked by her. Caitlin seems to be sociable, loves to be surrounded by people and enjoys spending most of her time socialising with the strangers in her pub. She also seems to be easy going. When she lets her hair down, Caitlin acts like she just loves to mess around and just have fun. She is most lively at the pub, and often ends up totally drunk. Not that it matters, her care-free attitude means she does not worry about the consequences of her actions. When it comes to actual work... well... let’s just say it can be done tomorrow. Some might call it laziness, others say it’s a lack of priorities but in all honesty, Caitlin would just much rather have some fun than be stuck doing work. She’s got a laid back attitude about certain things in life, and doesn't mind being the brunt of jokes occasionally. Well, that is how she acts, anyway. In reality, the moment she steps outside the door of that loud and rowdy bar, her friendly mask “slips” to reveal a complete different side which most people are probably very glad they never get to see. Two-faced: hypocritical, deceitful, manipulative, a liar; Caitlin is all of these things. Whilst she acts charismatic, that doesn't necessarily means she likes you. On the contrary, most of the time she's probably thinking how much she hates you. Despite her apparent friendliness, Caitlin is, in reality, an incredibly cold and distant woman. Incredibly untrusting and wary of those she does not know, it will take a while for Caitlin to really warm up to anyone she has not met before. She tends to keep her thoughts, feelings and secrets to herself so they cannot be used against her by anyone she does not fully trust. Not only that, but anyone she does not fully trust is incredibly likely to be stabbed in the back at any given point by this redhead. She does not hesitate to walk all over people, manipulate others then toss them aside, just so she can get what she wants. It’s a cut-throat, dog-eat-dog world, and if you want to survive and successfully complete your “mission”, you should go to any lengths to do so. That is the mentality Caitlin goes by, and so betrayal is not something she will hesitate to do if that is the only way to advance. Caitlin is critical. A woman with a foul mouth and sharp tongue, she is known for being strict and quite critical when anyone makes an error. People can be quite unnerved by what she says or the way she says it. Sometimes, she can be far too harsh, and so can easily make quite a few enemies (or just upset people badly). Tending not to think before she speaks, Caitlin’s attitude can be rather unlikeable and bitter. However, this is really just a side effect of how incredibly dedicated she is to her cause. If she starts something, she won't stop until the job is done. Caitlin’s dedication should either be highly respected or greatly feared. She will not back down, no matter what the task or how hard it may be. One of the constant sides to her personality is probably her anger. The moment she snaps, you had better run for cover. Caitlin’s anger is over-whelming. Quite frightening, actually. She won't hold back or think twice before lashing out and hurting someone. She resorts to extreme violence when furious, and is not someone to be messed with. If you want to survive, avoid Caitlin then at all costs, and try not to make her angry, ever. One thing that really must be taken into consideration about Caitlin is this - she is confused. The woman has absolutely no memory of who or what she was before now, and there are times when that thought really does terrify her. Sometimes, the life she lives just doesn't feel right, and she can't for the life of her understand why. After all, it is all she knows, and yet it always feels like there is something missing. There are times when she feels like a lost child with nowhere to turn. Without that little piece of her that is missing, she feels like an empty shell. These true feelings are the things which are consistently hidden behind her mask: both the warm and cold one. Depending on how you see her, Caitlin can be one of two things: an average lady or a “villain”. So, what do you think she is? |

Alcohol: She's not an alcoholic... but you're more likely to find Caitlin down at the local pub in her free time than anywhere else. Of course, she never drinks on the job. Unless she's undercover and drinking is required in order to blend in with the crowd. Sport: Particularly rugby, boxing and archery. She's rather competitive, really, and it shows when she's playing some kind of sport. She also loves a good old fight. Not just an argument, but a full out brawl. She can get pretty violent, actually. It’s not really a good thing for any opponent that she’s pretty handy with a knife and gun… Hearty Food: Meals such as a nice, piping hot Irish stew on a cold winter’s day. Or potatoes! They’re versatile and part of a stable diet! Caitlin has a love for warming stews, soups and dishes that are meant to fill you up. She certainly is a big eater. Literature: She has a fascination with literature, and loves some of the great writers of Ireland (for example, Oscar Wilde). Often you might find her caught up in a good book if she's not working. Music: Another talent of Caitlin’s is clearly her musical skills. With a lovely singing voice, her love of music is obvious. Not only does she enjoy classical Celtic music, but also Irish rock (bands such as U2 or Thin Lizzy). It is not uncommon to see her take over the use of the karaoke machine at the pub and have a good old sing along with some of the drunkards there. | Hangovers: Vomiting and headaches will never be pleasant or fun in any way, shape or form. Enough said. Mornings: Caitlin is not a morning person at all, and 99.9% of the time is in an incredibly bad mood when she wakes up. That is by far the worst time to annoy her. Besides, mornings are when hangovers are at the worst. Finances: She is terrible with money and recently ended up getting into serious debt. Do not ask her to do anything that involves dealing with money or paying off debts. She is absolutely hopeless with it. Being Proven Wrong: Caitlin is... stubborn, to say the least. If someone is able to prove that what she is doing/saying is incorrect, she doesn't take that well. Skirts and Dresses: Caitlin is most certainly a tomboy, and she detests wearing anything girly. She finds that, doing the work she usually does, they just get in the way and irritate her more than anything. She tends to dress in quite a masculine way, for comfort and practicality. |

Blow Up London: She really hates the English that much, that she actually wants to completely destroy the capital. It's actually something she can imagine being a rather beautiful sight - watching the entire heart of this country go up in flames. Remain independent: She wants to remain self-reliant, and hates the thought of having to depend on someone. She's not interested in romance, and isn't one for all those smushy "happily ever afters". Her dream come true would just knowing she's able to stay strong and look after herself. Find out who she really is: Despite her dedication to FOL and the fact they are her family (they took her in, after all), there are still times when Caitlin can't gelp but feel there is something incredibly wrong about the entire situation. She wasnt to remember her past, hoping it might give her some clues as to who she really is. The maybe things will start making more sense, right...? | Defeat: Maybe it's because she wants to keep her pride intact, or just is a sore loser, but the idea of getting defeated in simply unbearable for Caitlin. It just seems to be something so humiliating! Snakes: Caitlin suffers from Ophidiophobia. It's an irrational fear, and she has no idea where it comes from, but snakes are probably one of the only things that really terrify her to this day for some strange reason. Never finding out who she is: This one is a given, really. But can you imagine how empty and hollow you would feel if you had no idea about who you were? That's a scary thought for Caitlin. One she does not want to try and imagine just yet. |
Background |
For many the story of the bartender at the Irish Lady Pub, a pretty lass by the name of Caitlin Murphy, is one shrouded in mystery. If truth be told, the majority of that story is a mystery for Caitlin herself. She knows not where she came from, nor how she ended up in the position she is currently in now. All Caitlin knows is that she is here in London now, and really, that’s probably all that matters. She lives in present, and now she is writing her own story as she goes along. The tale of Caitlin Murphy will be a much more interesting tale in years to come. However, the story that has remained hidden in the depths of the past does not begin with Miss Caitlin Murphy. Oh no. In fact, it starts with a girl named Aoife Saoirse O’Neill-Kirkland. Aoife and her twin brother Donald were born in Ireland, and were only one ethnicity of the large, extended Kirkland family. The twins were half-siblings to their brothers, and their relationships were rather mixed. It was fair to say the family could be considered unstable. There were many fights between relatives, and Aoife herself was often one to be locking horns with her other brothers and sister over various incidents. Really, she didn’t get along with the majority of her family. The one person in the family she clearly liked was her twin brother, Donny. For many years, the two were glued at the hip. They did practically everything together to the extent where they were almost considered one entity; they shared similar interests, were on the same wave-length, had their own private jokes, everything. Some could say they had a special “twin bond”. Stuck together all the time, yet polar opposites all the same. Ying and yang, fire and ice, Aoife and Donny. You could not have one without the other, even if at time they were conflicting. Growing up, Aoife had always been rebellious. Some would say she was the main “trouble maker” in the house. Brave and bash, she was not afraid to pick a fight with any of her half-siblings or parents. The Kirkland household was more often than not filled with the sound of arguments, some of which were admittedly fuelled on by Aoife herself. The family feuds would intensify as she grew, and though Aoife was always ready to be a part of them, she was never really aware of the affects they were having on the most important person to her – Donny. If she wasn’t deliberately getting into trouble at school, she was plotting ways to leave the family and be “independent”. It was something that she always talked to her twin about, and quite honestly, something she assumed they would eventually do together. Both leave the Kirkland family, maybe move back to Ireland. The plans were never concrete, but they were there and it was exciting for the twins. “We’ll run away together and live with mum again in the Emerald Isle!” she would tell her younger twin every night. “Just you and me, Donny. We don’t need anybody else.” And even if those words were just the ramblings of an excited teenager, she had always held some truth in them. She always thought that she and Donny would leave together, just like how they had always been together. Aoife had never expected for things to go the way they did. She and her twin were eighteen when he left. Donny, her closest friend, left. Without her. At first, it was like a slap in the face. He’d gone off when they were meant to leave together?! Aoife couldn’t understand it. But then the feelings started to change. Hurt, betrayal, anger... all of these feelings mixed together to distort the image she had of her brother and turn her against him. She hadn’t heard from him when he’d left; nobody had. He just vanished. At first, it seemed best to just move on with her life. Aoife went to university, got a degree in Literature... nothing special. But as she was at university, something started nagging at her. It wouldn’t leave her alone. Where was Don now? It was a question that never seemed to leave her, and it made her worry about him constantly. So, during her second year at university, she began looking into his supposed “disappearance”. Her private investigation work at first was something for herself but somehow, she became good. And people at her college began asking for her help using her new found detection skills. It didn’t seem like much at the time, but Aoife was pretty successful. However, her search for her twin remained unproductive. At the age of twenty-two, after graduating, somehow the Irishwoman was found by MI6... She never did have a clue as to how they discovered her skills, but she had an idea it could be something to do with a certain Quartermaster she knew... Anyway, however they found her, Aoife O'Neill soon found herself an agent working for MI6. And she was sent straight in at the deep-end. A double agent. It was a dangerous job, but somebody had to do it. On one of her earliest assignments, Aoife was sent into go undercover in a criminal gang. She thought she would be prepared for it, but really, there was no way she could have seen what was coming when she got involved. No sooner had she befriended the leaders, she met the rest of the gang. And she found her brother. Donny was a member of the gang she was infiltrating. It was a miracle he didn't blow her cover, but luckily for her, the mission was a success. The group was obliterated, and all the members were captured; including Donny. Then, her sisterly instincts had kicked back in again, and the next thing she knew Aoife was persuading HQ to spare her twin. Luckily for her and her brother, they did. Probably because she had convinced HQ that Don had provided honest intel that aided to their success. Aoife O'Neill became a very successful agent after that, working in the field for five years. Despite the fact she tended to stray from orders, her track record was consistent and pretty clean. She had remained completely dedicated to her job, and always tried to perform at her full potential to complete a mission successfully. Her social life was doing pretty well for a while there as well. Aoife had somehow found herself in a serious, committed relationship with Vash Zwingli, one of the agents she would most often work alongside with. It was a strange, yet perfect relationship. The two respected each other, were there for each other without having to worry about any secrets, and though she may never have admitted it, she loved that grumpy Swiss guy. Not only that, but slowly she had been able to patch up her relations with her family, particularly Donald. Yes, it was a long and tedious process, but they were getting there. And then, everything went wrong. It's top secret, they had told her. Nobody can know. It'll be too dangerous if anyone was to find out. When MI6 had sent out their star agent on a mission to infiltrate the infamous terrorist organisation - FOL - they assumed that the spunky redhead would be returning in a few weeks with all the information they needed to shut down their enemies once and for all. Unfortunately, they were wrong. Nobody knew what happened when they lost contact with Aoife, but eventually, she was assumed dead. That was that. The story of Aoife O'Neill ended there. And this is where the story of Caitlin Murphy begins... Nobody would have realised that the Irishwoman had in fact never had perished. Though they would probably not believe what really happened. To be fair, it does sound rather ridiculous: getting into a heated fight with the enemy which lead to a severe concussion which then, in turn, resulted in amnesia, of all things, does seem rather far fetched. But that was the case. A certain red-headed woman had awoken with no memory of who she was, where she was, or how she got there. A group took her in, however, and gave her a name. Caitlin Murphy. They accepted them into their group, FOL, and "raised her" as one of their own. She was trained to be the perfect member fighting for their cause, and with nowhere else to go, Caitlin devoted herself to them. The group must have seen it as the perfect opportunity; a woman with that level of skill yet with no memory of her past life at all seemed like a valuable tool in this case. Eventually, she was sent to London by the group with the codename "Angel", and partnered up with a man named Mihai Chimet who was already based in the city. Caitlin, or should I say, "Angel" is one of the most active members of the terrorist group in London, often acting as an informant and mediator for the other members, or helping carry out some of the major attacks themselves. From theft to arson, to much larger-scale terrorist attacks, "Angel" has become an infamous name circling London, and often takes the credit for many of FOL's actions. At every crime scene, she leaves behind a simple note reading: With love from FOL and Angel~ ♥. Her actions, however, are certainly not very angelic. When not out and causing chaos in the name of FOL, Caitlin is usually found working as a bartender in the Irish Lady; this became her cover or as she refers to it, her "day job". It's the perfect cover, really. People could never expect an "average citizen" like Caitlin to be linked to such a group, right? |

(I'm lazy now. Have one of Aoife's old posts. v.v) Mm, Aoife really loved it when she got the day off. It was a rare incidence, yes, but it was always worth it after weeks and weeks of waiting when finally, that break that was so desperately desired became available. Before now, it was most likely that Aoife would have spent the day by herself, enjoying a little peace and quiet in her small apartment and just wasting the hours blissfully. But… she was soon coming to realise that company during the day off was much more enjoyable than any previous breaks she had from work. Who would have ever thought she’d be spending her time with Vash Zwingli, of all people? And it was… nice. Turns out, he wasn’t as uptight as she’d always thought he was. There was certainly a romantic side to him, hidden underneath that rather grumpy demeanour of his. The chocolates seemed to have certified that for her today. A little bit of sugar, a little bit of laughter, and the next thing, the two were making themselves comfortable on the couch. It certainly made a well-received change from deliberately avoiding each other in the office. Just to make sure certain Kirklands didn’t suspect anything. She wasn’t going to waste her thoughts on her brothers at the moment, though. His hair was soft, tickling her fingertips as she moved her hands through his golden locks. It was a pleasant sensation. Pulling herself in closer, the redhead wrapped her arms around Vash’s neck, gently fiddling with the hair at the back of his head, and began planting small kisses all over his face. A few on his forehead that already seemed to be lined from all the frowning he tended to do (he really should try to lighten up a lot more), one small nip on his earlobe, a quick peck on the tip of his nose, a few chaste kisses lightly sprinkled on his brow. And she was smiling all the while. The last time Aoife had smiled this much when being in someone’s embrace had been a long time ago, that was for sure. Gently, her hands moved to cup the man’s face as she leaned in slightly to close the gap between their lips… …Which caused their noses to bump together rather awkwardly. Aoife paused, blinked, and quickly pulled away with a small laugh. “Ah… sorry…” she apologised, before moving in once more to try again with less… collisions than the previous attempt. “Just try not to move too much, okay? Seems I'm a bit clumsy at this...” And with that said and done, the space between was finally closed. Now wouldn’t it be awkward if someone was to walk in on them both now, hm? |
