There was something about museums, being surrounded in history and the smell of antiquity, that made Berwald feel at ease. The Tekniska museet back home had been sort of a home away from home. A place he went to after classes let out, rather than meet up with a group of friends to play football or hockey. Even the ABBA museum was a place of interest for him, his own enjoyment of the band occasionally singing their songs his own guilty pleasure. But, history, technology, architecture, that was what stood out; what had made him want to pursue that Engineering degree. Perhaps he should have become a curator instead of a police officer, but that was always a viable career choice if something ever happened down the line. He'd rather not think of anything that might get him discharged from the force. As stressful as his job got, as questionable some of the decisions Chief Vargas made were, he liked what he did for a living. As enjoyable as it was, that didn't exclude some days from being completely dull. Not- not that he wanted anything to happen, of course! It was that, well, it wouldn't hurt if, maybe once in a while...
Time to get off that train of thought. The fact that the streets of London were quiet and peaceful meant that he and the rest of the force was doing their jobs. That was a good thing; something to feel proud about. Besides, that whole incident at Maximatics... God, that had been enough for an entire year. He almost felt selfish for wanting something to happen, thinking about that incident, and he attempted to drown the feeling in a mouthful of bitter caffeine, frowning slightly at the taste. Memo to self; if a cup of coffee is barely four pounds, it probably isn't worth it. Coffee from the cafeteria probably wouldn't be the best in the world, either, so he really should have expected it. Oh well, lesson learned, right?
Sub-par coffee aside, he looked back down at the map he had sprawled across the table, the floor layout for the Victoria and Albert museum being about as big as an average roadmap. He knew this was the biggest museum in the world, but good grief. Still, if this cheerful, somewhat sunny Saturday was the predicted day for Ragnarok to begin, he figured that he would prefer spending the end of the world in a museum. Witnessing the end (if it was the end of the world, anyway) in a building dedicating to preserving and educating about the past; it was poetic in a way. The Swede thoughtfully tapped a finger against the map, where should he start though?
