In the back of her mind she knew people were staring at her. Although, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it was just slightly uncomfortable. It wasn't every day you saw a person walking their ferret down the sidewalk. Elise knew she had to look a bit silly but Leopold enjoyed being outside and she had been putting in so many long hours at the office. It was only fair he got to go outside and stretch his legs in the sunshine, maybe play in the grass at the park. He looked so happy scurrying down the path with his bright blue harness on.

At the cross walk she bent down to scoop him up, since people might accidentally step on him in their haste. Being a good boy, he sat on her shoulder as they crossed the road, behaving a lot better than she thought he would. Once across the road she set him down and he scampered down the sidewalk slightly ahead of her. Elise made sure to keep a good hold on the lead, she didn't want anything happening to her Leo.

The park was pretty quiet since it was a weekday in the middle of the afternoon. “Leopold, leave the birds alone!” She called out, watching him start to creep towards a group of pigeons. The bench was clearly a bad idea. Instead, she went away from the walking path and headed to a nice shady spot in the grass. Leo rolled around happily in it, running up and breaking into his war dance from his excitement. It always made her laugh, no matter how many times she saw it. He looked so ferocious and cute that she couldn't help it.

Every so often she grabbed a handful of the long grass and threw it in the air for him, watching him attack and roll around in it. Oh this was nice after being cooped up in the office for so long and he probably felt the same way. “Sorry Leo, I promise we'll get out more. I even got you a nice sweater for fall.” Was it ridiculous she was chatting with her ferret? Maybe, but the way he looked at her when she spoke made her swear that he was listening even if he couldn't understand. Besides, her pets were her best friends.

With a happy sigh she flopped on her back. Immediately she was attacked by ferret kisses, making her squeal and giggle. “Nee, Leo! Stop it!”

Sometimes the idiocy of others was limitless and you had to get out. The government office was definitely a busy one, and when you heard arguments between people of other parties, it could get quite a bit irritating. She tended to try to slip away from these arguments in the office, but you can only avoid debate so many times before you get called out for it. As a politician, you were meant to debate. Definitely part of the job description. Damn the British for being so vocal for just about anything. Parliament was just the same, only more formal. The poor Prime Minister and all that yelling... oh God save the Queen and British tradition. She had left the office to go grab a cup of coffee, she said. As if. Unfortunately, she really did need to get back to the office to take care of the piles of paperwork that she had left on her desk. Why not have a secretary do the work? She easily had the money to hire one, but... She'll just say it isn't the right time to hire someone. In terms of trying to make the right impression at work, having a secretary tended to say that you were above others. “Leopold, leave the birds alone!” Oh, it seems someone's dog is terrorizing our avian allies? Let's have a look see... “Sorry Leo, I promise we'll get out more. I even got you a nice sweater for fall.” Was she talking to a ferret? “Nee, Leo! Stop it!” Happiness was so adorable and simple, now wasn't it? If only she had an animal companion and things were much more simple. Ah, well... "Is that your ferret?" she asked, looking down at the girl being playfully kissed by her ferret.

The voice that came out of nowhere startled her. Elise hadn't expected anyone to approach her at the park since she came here quite regularly. Oh shit, was there grass in her hair too? She sat up, pulling Leopold off her face and onto her lap. The young woman was asking about Leo. Of course this was her ferret, where did she think she got it from? Yes, I stole it from the pet store or I tamed this one when I went for a spiritual journey into the wilderness.

Enough snarkyness, it wasn't becoming of a lady, her Uncle always said. Elise didn't know the woman and she was probably just trying to break the ice. “Yes, his name is Leopold. You can pet him if you want. He's pretty friendly but he can be a bit nippy. If he bites tell him no.” It was a habit she was trying to break him out of, mostly because he got restless. Her fault after all. It was good for him to meet strangers too. Better for socialization.

“I'm Elise.” She got to her feet, holding her hand out to her. The woman looked kind of familiar. Were they at a party together? Regardless, if the woman showed in interest in Leo she couldn't be so bad. People who didn't like animals could never be trusted.

Wait a second. Her mind finally found the piece of information it was looking for. This was Miss Johanna Sorensdottir, the minister. No wonder she seemed so familiar. Great, she met a minister looking and acting like this. What a great first impression. Hang on, why did she ask about Leo, was she breaking the law? Were ferrets not allowed in the park? She had him on a leash though, Elise didn't think she would get in trouble.

“I'm sorry, am I in trouble for something? If ferrets aren't allowed in the park I'll go.” The last thing she wanted was for Leo to be taken away or to get a fine.
