Charlotte Wynona Delprat “Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” Meet one of the most precocious pre-teens in London; a young twelve year old who tries (though usually fails) to act more like an adult. |

Charlotte Delprat is, to put it simply, a precocious little girl. She is the sort of girl that tries her best to act older than she is, and firmly believes she is the most mature out of her group. In some way, she could be described as the “straight man” of her circle of friends; the one who always acts the most serious and will roll her eyes at the immaturity of those surrounding her. Charlie treats her friends more like annoying little siblings sometimes, and will often be the one giving out advice eagerly to show off how much “wiser” and more grown-up she is in comparison to them. In all honesty, Charlotte is one of those pre-teens who likes to think she knows everything, when really, she still has a lot to learn. Most people would describe her as being “mouthy”. Cheeky and impolite, she is not exactly the sort of child most parents would want their kids to be like. Charlie is always more than ready to start an argument with someone, even if her points have no meaning to them. She cannot simply accept the prospect of losing, you see. And really, when riled up, she tends to speak more like a sailor than a young lady. Charlotte has a short fuse, something that becomes pretty obvious from the moment you meet her. Add that to her argumentative streak and mouthy attitude and... well, you can work out the rest. Her parents are always nagging at her for being disrespectful towards her elders, but Charlotte just does not seem to care about that. Maybe she’s just a little rebellious pre-teen. The young Australian is incredibly impulsive. It really is rare for her to think things through before she charges, head-first, into whatever situation she has decided to act upon. Of course, Charlie always believes her ideas and actions are the best solutions seeing as she “might as well be the oldest!” Half the time, this is a completely inaccurate assumption, unfortunately. Due to her lack of experience or thinking ahead, most of the time things just get much worse. This is something that will then be blamed on someone else, instead of her taking the responsibility herself. One thing that must be remembered about Charlotte Delprat is that actually, she is sensitive. Over sensitive. She takes things incredibly personally; even the slightest bit of teasing or one odd joke at her expense. Although more than willing to tease others, she can’t stand being the one who is getting laughed at. When her feelings are hurt, Charlie can become incredibly moody and anti-social, refusing to participate in anything with her friends until they apologise for their meanness. Really, no matter how much Charlotte says otherwise, she is immature and childish. Her emotions are always exaggerated like that of a normal girl her age, she does not deal with losing or competition well, and wants to always be right, even when proven wrong. She can be just as bratty as any other kid, yet just as curious and playful. There’s no denying how much she loves fun, even when she tries to act like she’s too old for “stupid kids games.” But Charlotte is most certainly creative and artistic; one thing about her childishness which she embraces with a passion. Her imagination is vivid, and she is always concocting fantastic stories, games and various ideas that her friends to follow along with. Full of artistic flare and talent, Charlie has the unique ability to see the beautiful side to everything, and loves to explore and work on that to show a more vivid side to life. Full of optimism, she is, and joy There is no doubting the truly caring side this young madam has to her. Yes, she may be outspoken and a little rude, but those she is closest to her will always remain close to her heart. They’re important to Charlotte, and even if she is rude to her, you should know that usually she never really means what she says. If a friend is in trouble, Charlie will always be the first one in there trying to do everything she can to help them out and make them smile, even if it’s only a really tiny smile. “Because smiling makes everything better, right?” Loyal. Very much so. To those she is closest to, Charlotte does tend to stick by them, even if they irritate her sometimes and can act like complete idiots... Because they need someone to sort out their messes for them! Charlie tends to state that it is very likely the group would fall apart if she wasn't there to fix their problems. But she doesn't mind that. She wants to be the one they rely upon. Charlotte is devoted to them, and honestly has their best interests at heart. Even if she isn't the best at showing it. Charlie is ridiculously adventurous, and loves to throw herself and her friends into whatever mad idea she or anyone else has come up with for the day. She’ll follow along with anything that sounds different or exciting for a thrill, no matter how ridiculous or completely impossible the plan is. She always has some sort of daring and bold trick up her sleeve... which will usually end in trouble, but who cares?! It’s fun, anyway! And that’s what is most important about adventure! Finally, last but not least, Charlotte “Charlie” Delprat is tom-boyish, as her nickname would suggest. Well, all of her friends are boys, so it’s not really surprising. She’s the sort of girl who will jump into a rough and tumble game of football with the lads and won’t care about getting filthy after landing face-first in the mud. She thinks more about fun first than practicalities. Charlotte is loud and sporty, and likes to be much more hands-on than most of the girls her age. Miss Charlotte Wynona Delprat; she’s quite a character. |

*Art: Charlotte is a talented young artist. She loves to paint and draw more than any other activities she takes part in. It really is her favourite hobby, and her dream is to grow up to become a famous artist. *Animals: Being brought up in a nation with such natural diversity like Australia, Charlotte is used to being surrounded by animals. She loves any creatures; from spiders to kolas, not much frightens her. Her favourite animal is the rabbit, and she owns two named "Prince Paul" and "Princess Sue"! *Games: She's a kid who really enjoys anything fun. Anything that can captivate her; video games, sports, sometimes board games or just the classics like "Hide and Seek" or "Tag". It's all fun and games in Charlie's world. *Sweets: Ice-cream, chocolate or anything sugary! They're delicious and so much better than vegetables. Who doesn't love ice-cream?! *Adventures: Charlotte loves to do something exciting, like going off on a mad journey to nowhere in particular with her friends. It's one of the best ways to spend a weekend; having a crazy adventure! | *Rules: They were made to be broken! Who needs to follow the crowd and do what you're told?! It's more fun to be a little disobedient. *Commercials: They're boring. Very boring. Especially the ones about "loans" right in the middle of her favourite cartoon! Come on, Charlie's a kid! She doesn't even need a loan! Why does she have to watch them?! *Vegetables: "Eww!" Admittedly, Charlie is a very fussy eater who tends to blatantly refuse food she doesn't like. Those food are usually vegetables, like courgettes, broccoli, asparagus... Carrots are good, though. *Lack of imagination: People without it are boring. Life must be pretty dull if you have no imagination. Charlotte doesn't want to think of a world without it! *"Annoying people": She tends to label most people this when they get on her nerves. It doesn't really need explaining, she just avoids them like the plague. |

*Become an Artist: If you were to ask Charlie what she wants to be when she grows up, there would be no hesitation before she would proudly proclaim that she's going to be a famous artist! Art really is her big passion, and she wants to do what she loves. *Have Fun: At the moment, Charlotte doesn't really have many ambitions per say... Her worries are meaningless pre-teen worries, and one thing she seems to spend most of her time wanting is to make sure she always has fun. *Do Well at School: Charlotte doesn't usually care much for school... but she does want good grades... | *The Dark: It's an immature fear, she knows, but Charlie just cannot stand the dark. It really terrifies her! She usually brings a torch to bed with her... just in case... *Being Alone: It's not exactly "nice" being alone. When her friends or family aren't with her, Charlotte tends to feel very nervous. It's just much safer to be in the company of others! *Stranger (danger): Charlotte doesn't even know how many times she's be warned about "stranger danger", but it's a lot! And it doesn't exactly make her feel particularly confident in the company of those she does not know. |
Background |
Seeing as Charlotte Wynona Delprat has only been around for twelve years, there is not exactly very much to say about her history. She was born and bred in a tiny Micronation in Australia called the Principality of Wy, which had been set up by her great grandfather and was now under the “rule” of her own father. At a very young age, Charlotte was encouraged to follow an arty route like the rest of her family had done, something which she did not mind at all. In fact, she excelled at the arts, and discovered painting was her real passion in life. Life in Charlotte really loved Australia, and never expected to leave. So, when her father announced when she was ten that they were moving to the UK because of his job, she was stunned and deeply upset. Despite her protests and seemingly constant sulking over the matter, the decision was final, and a few months later the Delprat family packed up and moved away to London. London was... the polar opposite to her homeland. Wet, dark, grey (even in Summer) and very bland with it's natural environment, Charlotte hated it when she first arrived. Her parents told her to give it time and try to settle, that she would make friends and it would be fine. Of course, she didn't believe them one bit. Her only friends were Paul and Sue, seeing as she hadn't met any other kids up until that point. They had arrived during the British Summer Holidays, and would have to wait a few weeks before school started up again. Something Charlotte wasn't looking forward to. When summer passed and school began, Charlotte began to take a much more positive outlook on the situation. "I'm Charlotte Delprat, but call me Charlie", was what she had said on her first day. The quickest reply to her statement had been "Charlie? But that's a boys name!" "It can be a girls name. It's a nickname." And that was how she met Peter Kirkland. The two began chatting about pets, and that day after school, Peter took her to his home to show Charlotte his pet spider. Then, they went to the zoo and had ice-cream! Charlotte actually had a really great time! Meeting somebody suddenly made London so much more enjoyable, and easier to adapt to. Unfortunately... being friends with Peter Kirkland meant she somehow ended up getting dragged into his "Junior Detective Agency", making her the second member. Not that she minds; it's fun to "solve crime" and go on various adventures! It's just a little... strange sometimes... |

Charlotte Delprat was bored. No, she was more than bored! In fact, she was dying from this tiresome experience. Maths was dull, Mr Smith was mind-numbing, and even her friends sitting near her were not even making an effort to try and spice up the classroom. Everyone looked half dead at that moment in time, as the teacher continued to drone on about algebra or multiplication or... Charlie didn’t even know what he was talking about at this moment in time. She had completely blocked his voice out for the last half an hour, and was now too busy pre-occupying herself with the many doodles that were gradually taking over the page of her exercise book. Rabbits were hopping across the slightly crumpled white sheet as four figures were exploring a strange flower sketch that had formed at the start of the lesson, and seemed to be growing bigger and bigger every five minutes. “I wish it was Saturday,” Charlie’s own voice was whining loudly in her head as her pen continued scribbling away, sketching out a small story now with the four figures. “Then we could all go mystery hunting again! Peter would like that... I would like that!” Twenty minutes until lunch. Time was ticking by painfully slowly. Every soft tick tock of the clock resonated in Charlotte’s ear, as though it was calling out to her, teasing her. “You’ve still got nineteen minutes, forty-three seconds left of this mathematical hell, Charlotte~” They say that time flies when you’re having fun, but why couldn’t it hurry and pick up the pace when your brain was slowly shutting down from tedium?! The doodles and scribbles were rapidly growing now, consuming the once clean page faster than a fire. Charlie huffed with annoyance, resting her chin in the palm of her hand. Finally her gaze lifted from her book and was now focused solely on that clock, an angry glare in her eyes. Could this lesson be any slower?! |
