Nicoleta Daciana A honed thief and a callous liar, Nicoleta is nothing close to your definition of a 'nice girl'. Just as dangerous as her persona, the Lynx isn't the type to dawdle; if you want to hunt her, you'll have to catch her first. Love her, hate her, she wouldn't care less. But wait, she's not your typical femme fatale. She may walk and talk like a bombshell vamp, but she harbors something deeper, like a diamond in the rough. |

+Faceted: Like many people, she has different sides of her persona. By daylight, she is indifferent, distanced, wan, and occasionally rude towards useless strangers; as a result, she’s most likely not interested in small-talk before night falls. In the case of being surrounded by companions, Nicoleta may be loud, boisterous, lewd, and jovial. Make note that her mood is situational, and even more whimsical is her shade of morality. + Eccentric: Nicoleta amuses herself by fawning over strange, macabre things and getting into the darkest trends. Ghost stories, the paranormal, and gruesome tales are the types of things she is very interested about (hell, she is ecstatic about these sort of things). Towards those who know her, she displays a dark sense of humor. Death talks and foreboding sentiments are mentioned with a smirk on her lips. In a sense, people think she's the embodiment of the devil for her hobbies and penchants. Even in the way she moves and stretches with a silken sigh, Nicoleta is the woman of sin and the underworld. + Protective: When Nicoleta cares, she cares very deeply--this is something she hates the most. Despite all of her vices, she is very human. There are truly some people who she adores and cares for. Without a doubt, she will go through any lengths to protect these people. Granted, there are very very few of these people (maybe one or two), but her desire to protect what is close to her heart is very strong. It comes in a lot of neutral tones, however. The value of a person depends on her situation in life. As expected, small things such as long-distance or lack of communication can reduce their priority to her. + Kittenish: She's got a lot of wisecrack in her. She loves humor and good humor all alike. Like anyone, Nicoleta likes to have a good time (maybe, even at the expense of others). Nicoleta likes to laugh after a long day of being reserved. She can also be affectionate, touchy, and sultry during her 'play time'. A couple of kisses, bodily friction, wine, and a joyride is the recipe for her mirth. + Philosophical: Nicoleta is not the person who would go on grand, philosophical rambles and venting. She doesn't even consider herself a philosopher of any discipline. However, she muses about life very often. Her thoughts and opinions can change day by day because she's always trying to piece together a bigger meaning of living. Presently, she's just living to live. She feels as if the life of excitement she had run away from has become nothing more than an empty shell. Therefore, she's apt to find a truer meaning of her existence. Despite being completely healthy, she makes it a hobby to attend support (cancer, depression, etc.) groups just to observe or be a part of the circle. She finds some sort of strange solace in being around people with shortened lifespans or internal issues. To her, those people are often more genuine than average, every-day healthy people. Nicoleta even pretends to empathize with them by weeping and embracing them. She observes these kinds of people, always hoping to slowly extract more cues for her silent endeavor for an answer. +Wild: Well first off, she's nocturnal. She slumbers through the day to wake up as an adventurous vamp at night. She enjoys the heat of dancing with a stranger, driving like a maniac (Romanians are known for being horrible drivers), the slow sips of wine in the midst of danger. Nicoleta's not really afraid of dying. Hell, she can strut through a busy street if she wanted to. Like every person, she wants to experience the full breadth of what life has to offer. Thus Nicoleta is no stick-up-the-ass; conversely, she is everything but strict and orderly. Though she is guarded, she’s not always on her toes to run towards the commotion or away from it. + Hard-working: Nicoleta may seem like a slacker, but on her serious moments, she works until the day is out. It won't come without any complaining, but Nicoleta will get the job done. Especially as a broker, Nicoleta takes extra precautions to ensure that she is always safe, and that there is always are a consecutive string of back up plans. Thanks to this trait, she has an uncanny ability to dig out information. +Cultured: Nicoleta still remembers her Romanian roots, that includes the superstitions, holidays, and tradition. Although she is not as religious (for she is pretty much the embodiment of everything unorthodox) she still keeps an eye on the Romanian holidays, feasts, and such. Therefore, don’t bother her during Lent season. Break her mirror and she’ll give you the squint. Give her an even amount of flowers and she might punch you in the face—that’s insulting! Romanian superstitions at best. o Private: Whenever she thinks back about the atrocities of the past, her mind goes numb, which dampens her mood. Therefore, the woman doesn't confide in others often. Even to those who are closest to her, she tends to not tell them much about her life at all. Nicoleta lies her way through everything to appear stable and poised. Yeah, she's a wreck on the inside. She has lied and repressed her past long enough to sometimes believe that she is fine. o Ambiguous: As if that is not obvious enough. She’s always looking for herself, no matter what. In some rare cases, Nicoleta may even help others (during an ‘underground’ mission)—only if they are useful to her. To sum it up, this may also represent as a quality of selfishness as well. Frankly, she doesn’t want to end up losing everything and go back to the bottom she started from. This attribute does make her 'loyalty' a hazy concept, resulting to the fact that she only sides with the 'strongest', ally or enemy. o Whimsical: It goes hand in hand with being 'ambiguous'. It only makes her more mysterious. What she does is what she does. How her mind works at any given time is an enigma itself. She may be kind at one point, helpful in a dire situation, or she may be cruel, relentless, and evil-hearted. Depends really. Whichever is more fun or easier. -Immoral: For the most part, she doesn't have much of a conscience. Nicoleta lived as a criminal for about 10 years, and so that honed her immoral instincts. She can steal something right off the shelf if she feels like she needs it. Maybe walk in a liquor store, grab a can of beer, take a sideways glance to see how attentive the cashier is, and then just walk out to drink it. This is just really petty, and it gets worse. Depending on the situation, her immorality can be pretty extreme too. She can essentially 'lose herself' during a fight and really beat up the other person to a bloody mess. Nicoleta favors using torture against her adversary; she is guiltless in making her enemies feel every possible type of pain. Death is too easy of a sentence. Having first hand experience, she knows exactly how much pain a person can endure until they beg for an end. Therefore, it is never a good idea to push Nicoleta this far. It is very rare for her to get here, but it is damn possible. - Deceitful: She's an A-class liar. Lying is in her blood, and it has become an intrinsic attribute. Her words are always planned, carefully calculated. She finds power in words, in gestures, in the tone of speech. It has helped her so much in the long-run. But fear for her lies, for perhaps she lies a little too much—but only if it benefits her and her alone. - Distrustful: “A woman who trusts with only both eyes open is a worthless tool”, or so Nicoleta would say. Many years of prior anguish, pain, and betrayal had taught her all of the consequences of being naïve, vulnerable, and a woman. So yes, she has more than two eyes open at all times--she keeps her senses open, her mind sharp, and is always ready to pounce. There's always a plan with her, if not a plan A then a plan B with every person she meets and converses with. Why? Because there's always going to be a possibility that something will go wrong. Cynicism has jaded her, causing her to only trust herself and a small amount that she chooses to trust. - Intense: Nicoleta can be pretty damn mean. When she doesn't like you, she will make your life miserable. Even towards strangers who annoy her, she'll throw words that are as abrasive as knives. If you think her lying tendency was bad, then wait until you see her blunt side. Her delivery of the truth are almost always meant to cut you into pieces. She doesn't like the truth, so she always uses it as a weapon against other people. Nicoleta knows very well that she's not meant to be liked and to be blunt, she does not care. She's the renegade of society, and she chooses how she acts and treats other people. - Manipulative: Nicoleta will do anything to see people struggle in the grip of her puppet strings. She may be sweet and loving before she takes the prey by the neck and snaps them in half--that is, if their use is exhausted. She has a habit of viewing people as expendable playing pieces. It's something she is aware of, and sometimes a bit of guilt kicks in. She's slowly trying to stop, but she still continues to prioritize people by their uses. |

Exquisite wine: Wine. The more aged it is, the richer the flavor. Wine from the motherland is its own category; those who reside in Romania are especially proud of their wineries. With that said, Nicoleta has an acquired taste for wine. She can rule out cheap wine by spitting it out. Paranormal: Ghosts. Yes. My God does she love that stuff. It doesn't scare her, no it excites her like no other. Curses, hexes, demons, wailing spirits... Oh the tales of agony and horror just plucks on her strings harmoniously. However, she doesn't have a 6th sense or anything. She is a bit sensitive to the supernatural. Cats: An ailurophile, she prefers cats over dogs. Ever since she was young, she hated dogs because of a couple of past incidents. Wild and free dogs roam rampantly in Romania and certainly, not all of them are nice. Due to that, Nicoleta sees them as dirty, stupid flea-bags, which is why she prefers cats. Cute things, quiet, reserved, and keen to the supernatural. All in all, she considers herself to be little 'cat-like' herself. Gymnastics: Remember that Romanian Olympian who scored a perfect 10? Her name is Nadia Comaneci and she is Nicoleta's idol. Therefore, the Western world usually associates Romanians and gymnastics as a form of stereotyping. Well then, Nico lives up to that stereotype because she has a passion for this sport. She's been into it ever since she was young. Even in her adult life, she continues to exercise, eat right, and practice. Due to her flexibility and fitness, it made it easier for her to get into parkour, which is a necessary ability for the art of thievery. Perfection: First off, she's no perfectionist. Nope. Not at all. She doesn't try too hard to be perfect because that's impossible; rather she embraces her flaws because it’s innate. On the flip side, she does admire the idea of perfection very much. Perfection to her is just a form of beauty, something dazzling, so 'whole' with more to admire than scrutinize. That's why Nicoleta is so fond of Nadia Comaneci. She's dreaming of a time she'll be like that, a time she can be 'perfect' and pure as that. Smoking: Mind you, Romanians smoke like a chimney . This one does just that. Night life: This and 'having fun' goes hand-in-hand. I guess you can say she's like a vampire who sleeps by day (and is pretty much one dead and grumpy bitch if you wake her up) and becomes alive and vibrant at night. The night is the only time she feels a part of the community. Romantic novels: Mihai Eminescu is one of Romania's most influential novelists. He writes tales of 'impossible love'--love that cannot be obtained, love that is so pure it can only wither in the bitterness of this sinful earth. And Nicoleta is so terribly into this stuff. So yes, she has a soft side for romance, yet her guarded disposition would never allow it. Freedom: That's how she is. You can't clip her wings because she's always going to find her way around the system. Nicoleta is more like the 'lone wolf' who prefers to work by herself if necessary. The right way is her way. Cloudy days: Blazing sun, sweaty days? Please, the sweat is reserved for the night time. She prefers the cloudy weather, which makes England a perfect habitat for this shadow-lurker. One-night stands: No strings attached. Get the fun and get out of there. Dressing up: More like she enjoys taking up different guises and taking different personas. It's a part of the job to trick people; she just manages to have fun while pretending to be someone different. Treasures: Does it shine, does it sparkle? Mm yes? Well consider it gone in a blink if Nicoleta's around. Now she does have an eye for jewels and gilded chalices. Anything that makes her feel like a 'queen' is, in her mind, rightfully hers. | Commitment: Getting too emotional is a sign of weakness. Getting too attached is a sign of weakness. There are things in life she can’t afford and having too many weaknesses is one of them. Friendship is one thing but love is somewhat of a sketchy terrain for her. She’d prefer to be cautious about this. Being Called a 'gypsy': Wow okay she'd knock our teeth out and shove it down the tear ducts of your eyes if you call her that. Okay sorry that was graphic but this is the biggest form of insult you can give a Romanian. The 'Romani' or 'Roma' are infamous in Europe for being 'beggars' and 'scum'. And they just so happen to mostly reside in Romania. So don't call her that unless you really want to spark something! Oppression: She hates feeling that pressure of being pinned down against her will. Since Nicoleta had been sexually assaulted and raped while she was young, being physically or emotionally held down without her consent is something she won’t hesitate to draw the gun on. Piety: In Romania, there's a culture clash between the old generation and the new generation. Nicoleta is somewhere in between where she is religiously tolerable but she's not 'extreme' about it. To be frank, too much 'God-talk' would drive her nuts. The older folks she was around when she was in Romania were too conservative for her liking. It ultimately gave her a sour taste with religion. Getting ripped off: Nicoleta’s pretty damn cheap when it comes to buying things. More than half of the things she owns is stolen. When it comes to actually buying, she’s pretty picky and a bit on the frugal side. It’ll take a lot for someone to out-con her into buying something but if she were to fall for it, hell would break loose. Sunlight: She's sluggish in the morning and afternoons. Crankiness is guaranteed. Cold and mean. She hates mornings and excessive daylight and she won’t take any day jobs. Also, her eyes get slightly irritated if she is out in the sunlight for too long--meaning being exposed to it. It can be said that she is allergic to the sun, but the symptoms are pretty mild. Medication usually helps ease away the irritation and itching. Sleeping in her own home: Nicoleta sort of thinks that her flat is haunted by something. It’s nothing she’s afraid of but it gets irritating. She’d prefer to sleep with some company to touch and feel a little something more tangible. Children: Her bad childhood had rendered her to hate kids. Hate all of them. With that said, she's very certain that she's never going to have kids ever. Nicoleta blames idiot parents for raising moronic children. And moronic children make her sick. Unrealistic endings: Happy endings? Please, leave that to the fairytales. Nicoleta is nothing close to optimistic. Don't waste her time with chipper talk. Overbearing responsibilities: "Romanians are always late". Yep. Late. Too many responsibilities? More reason to slack off. |

To be perfect: There is nothing more she desires than to become perfect, spectacular, something worthy of praise. Nicoleta sees herself as a flawed person, inside and out. Despite her vanity and bad-girl attitude, she's aware of how imperfect she is. Although she tries to not reveal it, she has always wanted acceptance and some sort of confirmation that her efforts to become a better person are working. Get her way: This playground is a mess, but Nicoleta will assert herself as the winner. She isn't the hero type, nor is she the type that likes to put herself in the front lines. Pft, glory, honor? Hell no. Nicoleta prefers to scheme in the background, and she'll personally get her hands dirty against those who deserve it. In the end, all that matters is that she gets her way. Stat. Excelling in gymnastics: She is a very, very disciplined athlete. Gymnastics is a very big part of her life and her career. Without a doubt, Nicoleta has amazing talent and she is very proud of the physical and emotional endurance she had built up. If she could somehow perform with perfect scores, under the normally scrutinous eyes of judges, she would feel very accomplished and proud. | Emptiness: Her emotions make up who she is. Her most precious belonging is herself. If she were to become so scarred as to be numb, then she'd lose it. Being a mother: Though Nicoleta had a pretty decent mother up until her mother's death, she isn't too fond of being a mom herself. Being pregnant sounds like another unnecessary weakness--a horrible weakness that could hypothetically usher in trouble for not only her life, but the life of the baby. In addition, she's a bit fearful that she'd be a bad mom herself due to her insecurities. Boring death: She always wanted to be an actress, right? The world's a stage. Everything must be extravagant. To die with no reason at all is like a bad ending to a play. Won't happen with her if she can do something about it. Losing everything: What's a thief's greatest fear? Losing all they've ever owned. All of that hard work and memories are distilled in the stolen objects. To have it gone means to eradicate a piece of their life. Betrayal: She despises people who betray her. Nicoleta would never forgive these types of people. Ever. Absolute solitude: She needs to talk to people. It gets damn lonely. Nicoleta tries to keep her distance, but she still wants to be within the parameter of a good social life. |
Background |
The act of thievery has existed for many, many years. Petty snatching and moonlighting is just something that humans do as a part of their vices. Children do it, adults do it—everyone does it somehow, one way or another whether they are aware of it or not. But to be a thief means you devote your entire life to it, each and every day to it because this kind of life is a stolen concept itself. It’s an occupation. There are two kinds of thieves who come to seize this lifestyle. The first kinds are the types that were born and fed with a gilded spoon; their food was brought to them with a silver platter and was nestled in the silken basket of warmth. When they grow up, they’d become business owners, stock market observers, politicians and governors. Ultimately, these sugared bunches of thieves has been accepted into society as ‘successful people’ who live to take and give in carefully monitored and calculated amounts. They steal to profit. Then there are those who started from nothing. From the bottom up, this type of thieves had to rely on their instinct to survive. From the slums and the streets, they started small, started petty. But be mindful that it’s the darkness and the cruelty that truly consumes those who live in poverty. Bystanders would look down at beggars, delinquents, and criminals without sympathy, not once offering them a chance of contrition. These are the rejected, the ones who had been spit on—the ones who are hated by society because they take what they need to survive. They steal to live. Nicoleta is a part of the latter. No one takes the criminal life unless they’re forced on the precipice of desperation. Not everyone who had made the jump survived. Nicoleta was one of the few that fell and survived off the cushion of other people’s falls. The girl could’ve grown up to be someone entirely different. Young Nicoleta was shy, demure, and full of wonderment. Born in the Romanian countryside by the city of Cluj-Napoca, she grew up to mostly love one mother and a little brother, Valeriu. Her father was rarely home and he had often been a cynical, negative obstruction in the home. The dissonant atmosphere was not an ideal environment to raise two young children. The heated years of hearing her mother cry and her parents argue made Nicoleta horribly pessimistic and introverted. Her young, nascent hatred was completely directed at her father. After her parents went through an undocumented divorce, Nicoleta and Valeriu were in maternal custody. Thereafter, Decebel Daciana, their father, took a step out of their lives on what looks like is for good. From that point on, life seemed to turn on a higher peak. A new beginning called for a new home. Most of her fondest childhood memories bloomed from this period, of which most consisted of improved relations with her brother and her mother. Nicoleta most definitely loved her little brother more than her mother. Valeriu, younger than her by around five years, was a rising star. Smart, talkative, innovative, and precocious, Valeriu was easily the one that people liked. Being the older sister, Nicoleta developed a strong sense of protectiveness out of unconscious envy; she saw his potential and wanted to see him thrive. Though the family moved very often from city to city, the optimistic and motivated Valeriu always made new friends and always introduced them to Nicoleta. In a sense, he was the catalyst to the social world for her. Yet friendships were brief. Crushes were short. The nomadic life was fast-paced, full of series of halved relationships and dalliances. That cultivated a rather dreary and pragmatic mindset that nothing will last forever. It did not help when her adolescent philosophy repeatedly became confirmed. It all started in the capital city. Bucharest was a rather safe city, filled with petty crime, thefts, and back-alley prostitution. In the case of the Daciana family, they were in more danger than they could possibly settle themselves into once they moved into this city. As a young teenager, Nicoleta was more excited about the bustling streets and the nightlife, which was why she turned a complete blind eye to the dilemma that had been burrowing to its place. Typically, a new family wouldn’t need to worry too much about gangs and mafias in Bucharest; however, Nicoleta did not realize that her family had too many ties with the Underworld. The root of all evil and problem linked back to her father. Whatever he had done, the remaining family had to pay the price. Suddenly, when she was about 16, Nicoleta had been walking home when she witnessed her little brother be dragged off into a car. Left speechless in the wake of flying dust and fume, Nicoleta rushed to her mother for answers. When she got home to see her mother, she realized that their humble apartment complex was stormed with everything taken away. Her mother’s sobbing was a tell-tale sign that the peak of happiness was going to take a turn and spiral down. The family of two had to grovel for money to survive which then prompted the decline of their once steady familial relationship. Her mother had to handle multiple jobs while Nicoleta had to handle high school, conformity, and all the forms of peer pressure that ultimately brought her into her knees—in front of a man. Sexual abuse and rape was nearly the bane of her self-esteem, and by the end of every lay, she hardly had any left to leave the bed. All of the oppression and emotional pain made it very hard for Nicoleta to not consider suicide. Despite that, it was her determination to live that held her back from substance abuse and suicide. “Nothing lasts forever” was still the prevailing proverb in the teen’s mind. No religion could save her. Her mother’s distant comfort could not bring her back. No hands were out to save her—they were only out to touch and grope every single pure thing she once loved and cherished. Naked and tangled in blankets alone, it dawned on her after a fit of tears and choking that she had to be her own hero. Everyone else was too busy saving themselves. Her determination became ten-fold, and that willed her to commence actions that will flip her life around. This self-actualization was the first step for her to take initiative. She left her mother, promising her to bring back a better life for them, and went out of the country to search for a better job. Jobs were scarce for a girl like her, yet she did not let the hardships relent. Instead, she went straight into the arms of the Underworld. Ivan Braginsky, a mafia division executive, took interest in this broken spirit and was rather impressed at how swift she was with her reflexes. Nicoleta had some experience in thieving but never considered being exalted for such a sully talent. The fact that Ivan actually gave her praise made Nicoleta feel more buoyant and worthy. Thereafter, she invested her confidence and time to hone her larceny finesse since it was the only quality others saw as something worthy. Ivan became more or less like a role model to her; she adopted most of his ways and strung out bits and pieces of his persona to include into hers. Yet, there were many, many things she hated about him. Though he protected her and was sometimes kind to her, he was also very callous at times and cruel in his ways. He had often beaten her for her sharp tongue in addition to scolding her with scalding words. Her bodily mechanism managed to coat her heart in a thick coat to emotionally survive. Influenced by Ivan, she even partook in beating others. Torture was her favorite device against their enemies. For a short time, she became notorious for how cruel she was to captives. Eventually, Nicoleta’s refusal to be ‘owned’ escalated over the years to the point of no return. Once she bolstered her own wits and confidence, Nicoleta stood up against Ivan in one final heated argument. She left him during her early twenties and set off on her own to find out about her mother and the whereabouts of her younger brother. It turned out that after Nicoleta had left her mother, Anca Daciana went back to live with the main family. After Nicoleta visited her grandmother for aid, she learned that her mother died while she was gone. Despite being reaffirmed as a stronger woman, Nicoleta still felt a pang of hurt upon the news of her mother’s death. She bid the affectionate family of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins farewell and left as soon as she arrived with the inquiry. From that point on, she worked alone to pinpoint her younger brother’s location. There were ups and down throughout this endeavor. Most triumphs were shortly followed by times of struggle and bits of defeat. Nicoleta was adamant and determined to get things her way. Perhaps it was just a matter of luck. She had always considered herself unlucky from birth. How curious it was when good luck came in a form of a black cat. Grigore was found in Transylvania, one Christmas morning. Ever since, the feline companion accompanied Nicoleta throughout her pursuits and travels despite her superstition. The Romanian woman became bolder, more successful, and more cunning. After a series of successful heists and getaways, her shadow became the whisper in some parts of the Underworld. She happily named her midnight persona after her chatoyant-eyed cat; Nicoleta became the Lynx. The Lynx did not have one set identity. The predator never reveals her name or true appearance while at work. ‘Nicoleta Daciana’ was a name to be protected at all times. Therefore, the woman had to take up multiple aliases and appearances to satisfy those terms. It can be concluded that Nicoleta neither wanted fame or fortune. Most of her money she had earned from larceny were drained from a series of events during her angry "revenge" rampage. During this time, she basically went through London to track down people who had slighted her; all of them had a brutal end. Unfortunately, this took off a chunk of her money. With that said, she now opts to live a fairly semi-normal life and is dead set on finding her brother. After all of that excitement, Nicoleta wants to settle down a little more, and considers herself a famous thief no longer. There is a lot more peace in anonymity. All she needs to do now is find her brother and pinpoint the location of her father. That's the last bit of the puzzle she is trying to figure out. |

It was evening already. The western skies were dipped in a splash of gold and pink. The red sun was peering over the black silhouette of distant skyscrapers. There had been a fire in the city, and the smoke painted the spray of clouds and ashen red color. The sooty smell still lingered. Nicoleta ambled on the path where the shadows of the buildings bent towards her. A wisp of smoke from her cigarette floated behind her, trailing her like a reaper. Her heels clicked against the pavement, warning the silent ghosts of her presence. Downtown was empty, save for the rubbish that fluttered and rolled around. It was for a good reason too; no one with a good sense of mind walks around this late. Nothing good happens at night. A gruff voice snarled, "Hey, you stupid kid!" Ahead, there was a man that side-stepped into view from the alleyway. There was a boy in front of the man, holding a bundle against his chest. Petrified, the boy sidled against the wall, nearing the corner of the building to take flight, only to be grabbed by the collar. Nicoleta took out her cigarette and exhaled a plume of smoke. Behind those tinted black-brown lenses of her sunglasses were expectant eyes. Should she do something? She paused. Nah. Nicoleta walked right by them, a smoke between her maroon lips, as the hoisted the kid up. He was screaming. Tch. Stupid kid screams so fucking loud. "Whoa... holy shit." said the man next to the one holding up the kid. "Hey lady! How would you like to see something big?" Nicoleta stopped. Catcalls. God fucking dammit. This place was supposed to be empty. "Oi, Steven, we're in the middle of something." His lips were like a pufferfish's lips. "Take care of the kid, I don't give a damn. Just let me talk to this one right here." A lanky man with tattoos down his arm and a head rag around his mousy blond hair walked towards her, his hands in his pockets. "Dontcha know that it's dangerous at night?" Nicoleta gave him a sideways glance, one that was cold and still. "What's that hun? You can't speak English?" Steven rubbed the whiskers on his chin. His breath reeked of alcohol. "What's that French phrase? Voulez vez coucher avei moi? Heh." The kid was still squirming and struggling under the grip of the bulkier man. "Shut that little shit up." With that, the kid was promptly punched in the face. Nicoleta took off her sunglasses and lowered her eyes. She hung the sunglasses on her v-neck. "You said it wrong." She hated it when people had their French wrong. He wasn't even trying. Strike one. "Really?" His brown eyes shone with mischief. "How do you say it then? Or do you prefer body language... if you know what I mean..." "Voulez vous coucher avec moi." Nicoleta stated flatly. Steven briskly walked forward and put an arm around her waist. "I'm glad we're on the same page." He plucked the cigarette from her lips and clenched it between his toothy smile. "How about we escort you safely home? We're the good guys, promise. That kid over there? He stole some money. We'll drop him off before we drop you off to a pretty silky bed." Nicoleta wrinkled her nose in amusement. Three strikes. "Listen." She placed a hand on his chest and walked him against the wall. The sloe-eyed woman tilted her head and smiled at him, placing a finger beneath his chin. Her breasts were against his broad chest. She crooned, "You make me feel so weak." The woman leaned in, so close she could taste the breath of his alcohol. "I can't stand men like you. Mmm, oh. Yes. I want a bit of friction. You want to know what makes me feel good, babe?" Oh, the thrill. She can feel the excitement bubbling within her, heating her blood. Her body began to ache for just one touch. Or maybe two. Maybe three. Steven grinned widely in anticipation. "Tell me babe--" She snorted, clenched his collar, and slammed his face against a nearby window. The glass shattered, fragments of glass and blood sprayed outward. Nicoleta dropped the man like a sack of potatoes. That felt good. With his back against the wall, Steven turned around. His nose was bloody, his cheeks were scratched and slightly bleeding, and there was a the mark of impact on his forehead. He glared at her, clenching his teeth. "You little fucking bitch." he spat. Before she could even do anything, a fist came out of no where. It was that man who was holding the kid. Nicoleta dodged, took a sidestep, and then thrusted her fist forward. His large hand managed to catch her fist. He seized this moment to give her a clean strike across the face. Her sunglasses skittered across the pavement. Nicoleta placed a hand over her cheek. She could taste the copper of her blood. Alright, that now that fucking hurt. The bulkier man gave her a smug grin. He was probably relishing in the fact that he just hit a woman. Cocky bastards like him deserved a special kind of treatment. With that, she lunged forward and kneed him in that special place in between his legs. With the man reeled over, retching in pain, she struck the back of his neck with his elbow, and down he went, like a rock. Bang. It echoed across the empty streets. She held her breath. A gunshot. Nicoleta darted a look at Steven, who had a gun in his unsteady hand. She scoffed. "Come any closer, bitch, and I'll turn your fat tits into fuckin' swiss cheese." Oh please. Nicoleta walked right up to him and kicked his wrist. The gun slid over towards the boy, who was huddled up against the wall of the alleyway. His eyes were as big as saucers. Steven threw himself to the side, cursing as he tried to reach for the gun. Nicoleta put down the heel of her boot on the back of his hand. She put her entire weight on that heel and pivoted. There was a cacophony of screams. "You scream more than that kid did." Nicoleta commented, amused. "Say it, Voulez vous coucher avec moi, ce soir." The bones in his hand were cracking. He was screaming and grunting too much to pay attention to what she was saying. Dammit. How pathetic. Nicoleta released her heel and then kicked the gun away from his reach. "Get the hell out of my sight, idiots or I'll personally escort you." Then, someone cocked a gun. Nicoleta glanced up. Before she could even blink, and the bullet ghosted by her head. It was so loud, she mistook it for her heartbeat. That boy was holding the gun, a small pale smoke escaping from its barrel. She turned around to see the bulkier man throw down metal stick. Where the hell did he get that? She glowered her eyes at the two men and growled, "What the fuck are you two waiting for? I said, get the hell out of my sight!" With a little struggle, the two of them took off running, darting as quickly as they could as they sputtered a litany of breathy curses and threats. Nicoleta sniffed and rubbed her nose. Oh good. No blood. She glanced at the dark skinned boy, who immediately dropped the gun. He held the bundle in his arms and stared at her cautiously. "You scared the shit out of me, kid." No response. Oh come on. She was about to ask him about the bundle, but it looked like he wasn't going to say anything. Nicoleta sighed, walked over to pick up her sunglasses, and then put it on. "Gimme the gun." Hesitantly, the boy picked it up, timidly walked a few steps away from the entrance of the alleyway, and handed it to her. He retreated back to the shadows when she gave him a look. "Don't play with this stuff." she said, waving the gun around as if it was a toy. Might as well keep it. Shitty manufacturer but it was still a gun. "Now go." The boy looked down. That look on his face made her eyebrow twitch. Stupid kids. Nicoleta reached in her pocket and pulled out a couple of bills and coins. She dropped it on the floor. "Take it and get a taxi. Get out of here." He blankly stared at the money before looking back at her. "Nothing good happens at night." She turned away. "Consider yourself lucky." As she walked away, she heard him pick up the coins. Nicoleta felt... a little strange inside. Was she really a hero back there? Pft. Nonsense. That kid got a free ride because those bastards back there pissed her off. That's right. She's no hero. A few blocks down, her footsteps stopped in place. Her cheek began to sting really badly. It'll be hard to cover a bruise with make up, she thought. After she pulled out a cigarette and lit it, the nicotine began to ease her head. Nicoleta leaned against the wall and thought of the boy and the little bundled in his arms as she exhaled. A small smile tugged on her lips. Yeah. Nothing good. |
