Lucille Gabrielle Seabrooke Don't look back—life is short. You gotta hurtle forward however fast it takes you and you gotta enjoy it. Otherwise, there's no difference between the living and dead. Work the barest minimum you can get away (with so that you don't end up stinking on the streets when you're at your mid-forties), but life's not all about work and kissing your boss' arse. Skip those ten pages in the textbook and sleep in if you have to. Go out, have fun, and for God's sake, actually live a little! |

A passionate young girl from the southern hemisphere, Lucille is boisterous, optimistic, and a lover of life. She's not the type to take things too seriously, and she breezes through her days with a bright smile and carefree spirit. Lucille's the girl that gives in to her impulses shamelessly, buying things and spending time the way she wants, unconstrained by the more daunting feature of "reality." Due to this, everything about her is inconstant, from her grades to her moods to her interests. She's just as likely to work hard to complete an assignment as handing that assignment in completely blank. For that, she's been written off as lazy and careless, and though that might be true to some degree, she can also be incredibly driven and hardworking. Fit for her carefree nature, Lucille also wears her heart on her sleeve. Sadness, happiness, anger—she'll show it all (with one very special exception). Just as she doesn't hold back on the luxuries of life, neither does she hold back her tongue. Naturally a hot-headed and quick-tempered girl, this has landed her in trouble more than once but having no self-preservation instinct, Lucille hardly learns from these mistakes and adamantly bulldozes her self-righteous way forward. This isn't to say that she doesn't know when respect is due. In fact, she respects a lot of people, but anyone who demands her respect can immediately consider it lost. Holding her own opinions in very high esteem, Lucille has also tended to be argumentative and stubborn. It's hard to sway her, and if you're a stranger, don't even try—it's just a waste of your breath, seriously. In spite of all her downfalls, however, Lucille can be quite amiable as well. She's humorous, supportive and very caring for those who she perceives as her friends, and would likely go to any length to help them. As many people as her brashness has driven away, her vibrancy has captured. And she's fine with having a small group of friends—really, too many people can cause a lot of drama sometimes, and she'd rather not be anywhere near the people who will speak ill of her behind her back, right? (That doesn't mean she doesn't like hearing gossip; she does, but she'd never spread false rumors deliberately!) Lucille's a girl whose mouth runs at a mile a minute, and that isn't an understatement. Lucille loves to talk and to hear herself talking, and she can strike up a conversation with most everyone. If you let her go on long enough, you might notice that her wordsjustkindofstartrunningtogether, and it's at that point when most people to ask her to slow the fuck down. This love of producing words doesn't just extend to talking either; Lucille's also an avid texter and chatroom user, and you can bet she'll either be on her phone or her laptop if she doesn't have a friend right next to her. Even though Lucille screams "feminine," what with her cute name and her skirts and the ribbons in her hair, her behavior is quite the opposite. In fact, she could likely be categorized as a tomboy, with her love of physical activity and sometimes rather crass demeanor; people always seem to be surprised when the petite, delicate-looking girl casually drops a "fuck" in conversation. Language aside, Lucille has also proved to be fond of threatening grievous bodily harm to the people who annoy her, and also occasionally carrying (or attempting to carry) through with her threats. (Her small physique ultimately works against her in these situations.) Truth to be told, Lucille is rather childish, appearing as though she'd never mentally aged past 12. She's a lover of pranks and will most whole-heartedly carry them out if the opportunity presents itself. She may also tend to be a bit petty and passive-aggressive. A girl that grew up using her hands, she's quite nimble with them, and if you wrong her you should beware that your 20 pound bill doesn't go missing. Due to this, she's also very naïve. In spite of her high-mindedness, Lucille still isn't fully aware of the dangers that surround her, and it probably won't be long until she finds herself in a situation she can't bite herself out of. Another thing about her: Lucille loves her independence. Walking on her own two feet means less restrictions and more exciting experiences, and she's often wary of the things that might "tie her down." Due to this, she stays far away from people she considers possessive and is so, so suspicious about this entire concept of "love." A free and cheerful soul, she will never learn to love those who try to clip her wings. |

♥ Fish. Fish are amazing. Fish are her friends. She loves how colorful they are, and the way they swim around the water. She likes them so much that she volunteered to stay after hours in the biology lap to take care of the fish tank. She also keeps a pet betta fish in her dorm room, which she has named Coco. (However, this isn't to say she won't eat fish.) ♥ The outdoors. Having grown up in a house surrounded by nature, Lucille actually dislikes the city. She much prefers to be someplace with lots of trees and sand and water, where she can spend her time in leisure. This has lead her to be very interested in the conservation of the environment, and what prompted her to enter into an Environmental Studies major. Unfortunately, England lacks much of this. ♥ Food. Lucille cannot cook for the life of her, so she's always really appreciative when she can get good food. Thankfully, there's a cafeteria on campus where she can get herself fed, otherwise she'd be living off of simple sandwiches and microwaveable dinners. So if you want to be her friend, feel free to treat her to a lunch or two. She'll love you for that! ♥ Animals. Even though fish are her favorite, she loves all kinds of animals. Seriously, all kinds. From snakes to platypuses to giant millipedes—she can handle all of them. It's a great thing that there's a zoo in town, and she thinks she'd love to try getting a job there sometime. ♥ Physical activity. Lucille has been active all her life: swimming, running, playing sports you name it. She can't stand sitting around for too long, and even in London she's joined the volleyball team. This love extends to simple handcrafting too. In fact, Lucille is very nimble with her hands, and she's learned to build and fix things since she was young. If she has any free time, she especially enjoys carving and sometimes gives away the little knick-knacks as presents. ♥ Adventure. It's been her dearest wish since childhood to go on an adventure. She always loved daydreaming of hunting down a vicious beast or fighting sea-monsters, but unfortunately none of those wishes had been granted. Right now, she's simply focused on making life as exciting as possible, and who knows—maybe something really cool will happen to her someday! | ♥ Cold weather. Coming from a warm climate, she can't stand the cold. Her absences in class always increase exponentially when winter comes about, and she has a tendency to lock herself in her rooms those months. She also becomes ill quite easily and has even claimed to feel lightheaded when in cold weather for too long. ♥ Cities. Also another major change from her birthplace. She doesn't like how dirty cities are and how there's barely any grass anywhere. She'd much prefer to have sand beneath her feet than gravel, not to mention the crowds of people and cars! Ugh. There's really nothing fun about cities. ♥ Large groups of people. She finds that they're too noisy and too hard to keep track of. Lucille doesn't like having multiple focuses, and would much prefer to keep track of one or two people and the same number of conversation topics, thank you. Due to this, she's also pretty adverse to parties, where the pounding music and flashing lights quickly give her a headache. ♥ Shoes. She doesn't hate them, but she sure as hell doesn't like them. If she can find anywhere she can go barefoot, she will. ♥ Men. Again, it's not like she actually hates them. She just thinks they're arrogant, rude, pushy, and conceited and she can't stand those types of people! Have you ever noticed that most bullies are guys? Well she has, and it hasn't made her particularly fond of the other gender. This isn't to say she won't have any male friends or would never date a boy, but being a girl would certainly increase one's chances. |

♥ To own an aquarium. The first time she visited an aquarium and entered the glass tunnel with fish all around her, she fell in love. She could only imagine what it would be like to constantly see corals and colorful scales all around her, and thus spawned the childish, if desperately sought-after, wish of being able to live in an aquarium. Wouldn't it be relaxing to fall asleep watching to those beautiful animals swimming above you? ♥ To travel. She's lived most of her life in Seychelles, and now she wants to experience more (hopefully not all other places will be as rainy as London). She's particularly interested in seeing South America and Southeast Asia, and she hopes she'll be able to visit those areas someday—or anywhere, really. She just wants to get out and see all sorts of different cultures and eat all sorts of different foods, and maybe someday she'll actually be able to afford it. ♥ To have fun. She's young, and she hasn't had many life philosophies yet, but she knows that she doesn't want to waste her entire life away. She knows that schoolwork and grades are important, but she sees no point in being alive if all you're going to do is slave away over paperwork. This is why she's so intrigued with adventure; she dreams of experiencing new (and maybe dangerous) things and to be able to live life on the edge—to its fullest. She wants to let loose and enjoy the things the world has to offer—even if she cuts herself too loose, sometimes. | ♥ Bad things happening to family members and friends. She loves everyone close to her, and she one of the things she worries about most is if they are somehow injured or (worse) killed. These things aren't on her mind very often, but when a friend is late to a rendezvous, she'll spend a couple minutes thinking about the hypothetical before deciding to call or text said friend. At the back of her mind, she's also realizing that her parents and grandmother are getting older and she'll have to go on someday without them. ♥ Falling in love. It just seems so confusing and daunting! She listens to her friends talk about their relationships, and to her they just seem like a jumble of drama and tears. Due to this, she's pretty certain that she herself won't fall in love, and if she does... Well, there isn't even an "if," because she's so damn certain that it won't ever happen! What's so appealing about having to spend a lot of time around one person and worrying about whether they'll think you're cheating when you so much as try to hang out with anyone else? ♥ Losing independence. Lucille is completely terrified of being constrained. She loves being herself and doing what she wants, and she can't imagine having to be subservient to someone or someone else's needs. Naturally a drifter who wants to appreciate all aspects of life, Lucille doesn't want to be tied down. She feels that she doesn't owe society what it expects of her, and she'd rather carve out her own path and her own way to achieve a happy life. |
Background |
Ever since she was young, Lucille had wanted nothing more than adventure. Unfortunately, she lead an extraordinary life—yes, extraordinary in how absolutely boring it was. True, she hailed from a small island that not many people had heard of, but that was hardly a qualification factor for how exciting it was. She personally thought it was pretty boring indeed, what with its exotic jellyfish tree and giant tortoises. In fact, it was so boring that no one even wanted to settle there before the French, and the most exciting thing that ever happened in France was the invention of the baguette! (That is, according to Lucille.) Much of her childhood was spent happily, even though she bemoaned the lack of adventure. Lucille lived on the beach with her parents and grandmother, and spent of a lot of time fishing and swimming. Due to this, Lucille is a very healthy and active young girl, though her thin frame suggests otherwise. Lucille was very close to her family, and they spent a lot of time together. Her father taught her how to fish and how to drive a boat, her mother taught her a little about shopkeeping, flora and fauna. The person Lucille adored the most, however, was her grandmother. Her grandmother was a former politician, and it was from her that Lucille learned to be stubborn and staunch in her beliefs. Lucille often heard her grandmother talk about civil rights and environmental conservation, and became very interested in the subjects. Lucille often told her closest secrets to her grandmother as well, and would often rely on the elder woman's expertise if she had an argument with her friends or parents. School was another thing altogether. Oh boy. School sucked. Lucille hated school. She and school shared a mutual enmity, and would probably have kicked each other in the shins if school were an animate creature. Lucille was completely absentminded, preferring to nap or doodle in her notebook while the teacher taught. In return, she often received barely-passing marks and had more than her fair share of tardy and detention slips. Lucille is a very passionate young woman, to be assured, but she was Lazy in academics with a capital L. Aside from her lackadaisical handling of academics, she also earned a reputation around the yard for being fiery and a bit of a fighter. With a quick temper and a strong sense of justice inherited from her grandmother, she'd often stand up to schoolyard bullies and used vicious and dirty methods to ensure a victory. Lucille was a girl who felt no shame in aiming for the eyes, mouth, or crotch. So, the question that remains to be answered is: how in the world did a lazy, slightly delinquent Seychelloise come to study in one of the UK's most prestigious colleges? Well, the answer certainly didn't lie in her grades. Her high school career was a row of straight Cs, and honestly, she attended the University of Seychelles first. It wasn't until her second year at the University, where taking courses in academic areas that interested her got her higher grades, that she applied for a transfer to Imperial College. It was unexpected, even for her, but she was admitted. She accepted the transfer without hesitation, and her parents gladly paid the share of her tuition that wasn't covered by financial aid. Before she left for London, her grandmother gave her a pair of ribbons for her hair which she has worn in pigtails since. Her lucky streak seemed to end the moment she set foot in London, as though the entire UK was cursed (and she personally wouldn't doubt it—silly Englishmen, seriously). Her previous boarding arrangements didn't work out, and she was obliged to spend a couple of weeks at the college head librarian's house before the entire issue was sorted out. Then, that room lead an increase to her tuition, which she reluctantly took a job to pay off. For a month, she was a waitress at a local restaurant until the crowning moment of misfortune— She spilled orange juice on the dress of a certain Mafia leader. Ha ha, right? Well, Lucille doesn't find it very funny so shut up before she punches your teeth out! Okay, so it isn't exactly as bad as it could be. The Mafia boss actually turned out to be pretty nice. (Like, who'd've thought, right?) Lucille was offered a deal—she could run a few errands for the Mafia here and there—things like finding out a piece of information about this guy, or telling them what that chick has been up to—nothing too egregious. And she gets paid for it too, and doesn't have to deal with the rude customers she had to deal with at the restaurant. That isn't to say she's completely happy about this sort-of alliance with the Mafia; in fact, she's a bit troubled by it. But so far, they haven't asked her to like, murder anybody, and she does have some perks to derive, not to mention it has kind of fulfilled her long-term dream of having an adventure! So she figures she'll just pay off her debt to the boss-lady and then be home-free. Of course, if they ask her to do something really big though, she'll tell the authorities, because it's not like she wants anyone to get killed! Oh, and another little secret—she might mess up the information she gives by a little. Just a bit; not enough for her to be suspected, but enough that she can reduce the damage done by the things she tells them. She can never know, right? But secret life of undercover Mafia underling aside, Lucille lives a pretty normal life at her university. A cheerful, sociable girl, she's got a close circle of friends and is performing relatively better in her courses. She plans on majoring in Environmental Studies soon and if everything proceeds smoothly, she'll graduate in three years. However, she's also discovered that everything in London is totally different than in Seychelles—and it sucks. No really—everything from the food to the weather, just ugh. In all honesty, she's not quite sure yet whether London is worth all the trouble it's been, but at least some exciting things have been happening. |

Lucille wasn't exactly known for her punctuality. If anything, she was instead known for her tardiness. She woke up thirty minutes later than her alarm clock, came in fifteen minutes into to her lectures, and kept her dates waiting for at least ten minutes before showing up. But she'd tried this time—really tried! After all, Victoria had invited her to nothing less than the aquarium, and Lucille had just been waiting for the perfect collision of circumstances (including sufficient money) to bring her there. She hadn't exactly thought of asking the woman, but luckily for her, Victoria seemed happy enough to take her places, which just so happened to be this one when Lucille had mentioned it in one of their passing conversations. The girl didn't seem like the thankful type, but she was immensely glad for Victoria's company anyway. Thus, she tried to be punctual for any of their rendezvous, and her efforts were, admittedly, quite admirable. For one, she cut down Victoria's waiting time to about five minutes, and even managed to be early on a few occasions. The stars just seemed not to align on that particular day, even though she had carefully judged the moment she'd need to leave in order to be on time. Ultimately, a series of unfortunate events stalled her on the streets, including a pedestrian hit and new road construction around what looked like a meteor impact, as though London traffic weren't already hell to bike through. Fortunately, the dome of the aquarium building was coming into view, and Lucille sped up and dodged by cars and pedestrians as she drew closer. The wind from her momentum blew her pigtails back, making her ribbons flutter behind her. There were a few disconcerted murmurs as she barely skirted by some of the less fortunate road-sharers, but the speed at which she was going was exhilarating; she rarely got a chance to go faster than the slow-moving molasses of traffic these days, and if there weren't too many sharing the street with her, she figured she may as well enjoy herself. Besides, she was in a hurry to meet with Victoria, so her haste was surely understandable. She screeched into the parking lot, missing a red sports car by inches. The bike rack in front of the entrance had a few more occupants than usual, likely due to the weather. It was the nicest Lucille had seen during her stay in London, and she imagined it might be the nicest she'd see from the city until her dying day. She regretted that it wasn't nearly summer enough to go swimming—not that London looked like it had many promising beaches anyway. She skidded to a halt in front of the rack, the brakes ringing loudly if it weren't for the general commotion typical of family-frequented areas. Digging into the little knapsack she'd brought with her, she took out a bike lock and secured her bike in with the rest. The second-hand artifact looked glum next to the others, its paint job slightly rusted, and handlebars a bit bent. She hadn't been able to afford a new one, and thought that her money was better spent on food anyway; after all, she wasn't very well going to carry it back to Seychelles after her four years. Shouldering her knapsack again, she smoothed down her dress and looked towards the entrance. It didn't take her long to spot Victoria's form, and she ventured a wave as she trotted in that direction, just in case the woman had seen her. She called out the other's name once she was in range, grinning broadly. She had no reason to hide her excitement—rather, she was practically glowing with it. She'd been looking forward to the visit for the past week, ever since Victoria had offered to take her, and her poor roommate had probably been bored to tears for the regularity that Lucille had spoken of it. She glanced around once she stood by Victoria, looking for a time-piece of some sort. "I'm not too late, am I?" she asked. She would have sounded more apologetic about the entire ordeal if she weren't in such an cheerful mood, and she wasn't going to let any tardiness nag on her mind. After all, she couldn't have been later than ten minutes or so. |
