It was late, yet the casino was in full swing. Every light was illuminated so the entire room seemed brighter than the largest star in the inky black midnight sky, and the chaotic noises which flooded the space around were deafening. Each ringing bell to signal another win somewhere was more like a siren, and the constant chatter from the crowds which were swarming the place felt much more shrill than usual.
At that moment, late one Friday night, Aoife O’Neill really was wondering to herself why she had even come along to Fortuna Magnus Casino in the first place. She wasn’t one for gambling, and it wasn’t even like a group of friends had dragged her along for a fun start to the weekend. No, the Irish woman was alone at the bar, making her way through her second whiskey since she had arrived. It must have been a pretty sad sight to any on looker.
“I should have just gone to the Irish Lady,” she mumbled with irritation under her breath, in order to prevent anyone catching her words. “The drinks are much cheaper there anyway.”
With that bitter remark made, though, she knocked back the dregs of the drink and ordered another round from the bartended, giving him a polite smile as she did. As she waited for the third round to come, the redhead allowed her green eyes to scan her surroundings once again. Maybe she should go and try out some of the slot machines or something. Besides, after a stressful couple of weeks and finally, just today, closing her latest mission, she had come out with the intention of having some fun before a nice relaxing weekend at home.
If only she had the motivation to actually leave the bar now. Hm, it certainly was tempting to maybe try and win something. Then again, the odds were stacked high against her, and were much more likely to be in favour of the house. But on the other hand, what else did she have to do tonight?
Aoife had no intention of finding any of her colleagues to spend the time with – Vash Zwingli was a grump, Feliks was a nice guy but he was probably in some gay bar at that very moment, and then there was Donald. Aoife didn't even want to think about him, let alone attempt to socialise with the guy. Honestly, it was still hard to process that only two years ago she had found him in a terrorist cult, of all things! She snorted in annoyance mentally, disgusted that her very own twin brother would stoop to such a low level. It would certainly take a long time for him to make up for that, in her mind.
Quickly pushing the thoughts of her frustrating brother out of her head, Aoife sighed slightly to herself and took a sip of her drink a few seconds after it was placed in front of her. Absent mindedly she twirled a single red curl around her finger before looking back once again over her shoulder to take in the bright casino. No, she would do this some other time. After this one last drink, she’d head home and call it a night. It was going to be a quiet weekend. | Tag: Francis | CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GS | |

| Aoife Saoirse O'Neill
Considered one of MI6's top agents, the firey Miss Aoife O'Neill is both a force to be reckoned with, and a rather down-to-earth young woman. Trying to juggle the tasks of mending broken family bonds, having a successful career, keeping her job a secret from her friends, and surviving, it's a pretty hectic lifestyle to be living - a very dangerous one at that. But, someone's got to do it, and Aoife is an independent woman who can manage it. Just about. |
Irish | Undercover Agent | Agent |
Emerald green | Very pale; freckled | Hourglass; well toned |
There are conflicting sides to Aoife O'Neill which make her quite a challenging character to figure out. Negatives and positives clash together to make a mess of a personality which will change as rapidly as the weather in Britannia. To be entirely honest, Aoife is still trying to work out who she is herself, making her quite the unpredictable young lady.
Starting with the positives, though, it is quite easy for people to like Aoife. First of all, have you ever heard of the Irish welcome? World renowned for their hospitality, the Irish have a reputation for being a friendly nation of people. And that is something Aoife herself instantly comes across as. Warm, welcoming, friendly; the sort of girl who knows how to make people feel at home, someone who is often going out of her way to be hospitable and make people feel comfortable. A lively, energetic woman who is incredibly friendly; she’s really the sort of person who always does her best to look on the bright side of life. As soon as she is in the company of those she knows and trusts, she becomes a warm and bubbly. Aoife is sociable, loves to be surrounded by people and enjoys spending most of her time socialising with her friends. She has her moments where she really can be a ray of sunshine.
When she lets her hair down Aoife loves to mess around and just have fun, and is usually quite an easy-going character (when she’s in a good mood, that is). She is most lively with her friends, and often will procrastinate and miss work deadlines just to spend more time with them. Not that it matters, her care-free attitude means she does not worry about the consequences of her actions. When it comes to work... well... let’s just say she’d rather be socialising in a pub over a drink of alcohol. Work can be done tomorrow. Some might call it laziness, others say it’s a lack of priorities but in all honesty, Aoife would just much rather have some fun than be stuck doing work. She’s got a laid back attitude about certain things in life, and doesn't mind being the brunt of jokes occasionally.
Warm and compassionate; she has shown to have a loving side to her underneath a terrible temper and stubborn attitude. The redhead has got some rather motherly instincts, and does do her best to treat people well; with the kindness and respect she believes everyone deserves to be treated with. Affection can be shown occasionally, and when it is it comes out in full force. Her family and close friends are important to her, and she shows it well. For example, when she and her mother were staying with her father and his children in England for a while, despite the fact she didn't always get along with them, Aoife did take on the role of the “big sister”. Truly, she cares for those closest to them. However, she may get overly protective of them, and tends to worry too much over those she cares about. Despite the fact she doesn't appear to be particularly fond of her brothers, they actually mean a lot to her.
There’s no doubt about it; Aoife O'Neill is a street-wise woman, so don’t question her intelligence. Sure, she may not have been always the top of her class when she was younger, but she’s spent enough time to know how to get around and find out information that could come in handy later. Quick thinking, she finds it easy to asses a situation and come up with a way to deal with it. Also cunning, using as much of her knowledge to weave herself into peoples’ lives and make them trust her. She has a sharpness that helps her come to swift conclusions and determine outcomes that can help her in any way she sees fit.
Certainly there is a rebellious streak, and she enjoys going against the rules every now and then. Really, she enjoys causing a little bit of trouble for others by doing her own thing against what other people have told her. Some would say her rebellious streak is too much to be playful, as she tends to ignore people sometimes just to irritate or spite them. There have even been a few times when she has deliberately gone against what her boss told her, which resulted in trouble for her.
And here we move into the realms of the not-so pleasant. Like the stereotype of redheads, Aoife is a fiery and feisty lady who knows how to stand her own ground and has a bad temper. Add that to the fact that she has quite a short fuse, and you'd better run for cover. Her temper and means that usually she doesn't think things through properly and just gets incredibly angry instead of calmly trying to resolve an issue. She’s been through plenty of fights in her past, and has an attitude to prove it. You do not want to piss her off, for when she gets really angry, she can scare pretty much anyone with a glare. That or she’ll just punch you in the eye. Unfortunately, she is rather irritable and can be easily set off or provoked by sometimes even the smallest things. The worse time to irritate or insult her is in the morning, as that is when she’s most grumpy and least forgiving. Her temper is infamous, along with her tough exterior and rough, rather harsh attitude.
Aoife is ridiculously stubborn, so much so she’ll ignore advice from others and go forward with her plans or do her own thing, which sometimes isn't the best idea. However, she'll refuse to accept her mistakes, and can end up causing tensions or bad feelings between others due to her lack of open-mindedness. She is a woman who clearly hates to be proven wrong. Appearing to be slightly stuck up at first, Aoife will always be ready to start an argument with anyone who tells her she’s wrong or anyone who undermines her. She tends to enjoy getting into heated arguments with people over the smallest thing, and tends to use a foul, very unladylike mouth in those circumstances. Not that she cares about being ladylike; she believes that your gender should not define your personality. Anyone who makes any comment on how ladies should not be so brash is immediately disliked by her.
This woman has an incredibly prideful streak to her. Aoife maintains the idea that she should remain independent. A headstrong, tomboyish young lady, with a short fuse is the best way to describe her, really. She doesn't want or need to rely on anybody, in her opinion, and she is certainly a woman who is as tough as nails. The redhead remains full of pride, and won’t let anybody put her down. Her opinion is important to her, and she won’t let anybody change it easily.
Aoife is critical. A young woman with a foul mouth and sharp tongue, she is known for being strict and quite critical when anyone makes an error. People can be quite unnerved by what she says or the way she says it. Sometimes, she can be far too harsh, and so can easily make quite a few enemies (or just upset people badly). Tending not to think before she speaks, Aoife's attitude can be rather un-likeable and bitter. However, this is really just a side effect of how incredibly dedicated she is to her cause. If she starts something, she won't stop until the job is done. Aoife's dedication should either be highly respected or greatly feared. She will not back down, no matter what the task or how hard it may be.
In short, Aoife is a character with quite a few different sides to her. All of these mix up and make the woman who is Miss O'Neill. And this fiery redhead will certainly be causing a storm throughout London. |
Alcohol | She's not an alcoholic... but you're more likely to find Aoife down at the local pub in her free time than anywhere else. Of course, she never drinks on the job. Unless she's undercover and drinking with whatever criminal group she's working with.
Sport | Particularly rugby, boxing and archery. She's rather competitive, really, and it shows when she's playing some kind of sport.
Gardening | Because of her country roots, Aoife has a love for growing things. She owns a small plot of land where she grows various flowers and plants in her spare time... if she has any, that is. It something she finds incredibly relaxing up do.
Romance | Despite her rough exterior, Aoife is a romantic at heart and her favourite genres of media are romantic films or novels; more light-hearted things than serious dramas.
Mythology | Aoife is very interested in the ancient mythology of Ireland. She has a whole collection of books dedicated to Irish myths and such. Also, she's quite fond of Celtic magic and the occult, believing in magical creatures and sorcery. Aoife also claims to be a generally "lucky" woman, and collects various charms as a hobby.
Hearty Food | Meals such as a nice, piping hot Irish stew on a cold winter’s day. Or potatoes! They’re versatile and part of a stable diet! Aoife has a love for warming stews, soups and dishes that are meant to fill you up. She certainly is a big eater.
Literature | She has a fascination with literature, and loves some of the great writers of Ireland (for example, Oscar Wilde). Often you might find her caught up in a good book if she's not working.
Music | Another talent of Aoife's is clearly her musical skills. Skilled at the harp and fiddle, and with a lovely singing voice, her love of music is obvious. Not only does she enjoy classical Celtic music, but also Irish rock (bands such as U2 or Thin Lizzy).
Children | Despite her rather tough exterior, deep down Aoife does have a mothering side to her, and adores children. She often dotes on them and really has a soft spot for children.
The Countryside | A country girl at heart, Aoife finds that the lush green fields of the outdoors is where she belongs. | Hangovers | Vomiting and headaches will never be pleasant or fun in any way, shape or form. Enough said.
Mornings | Aoife is not a morning person at all, and 99.9% of the time is in an incredibly bad mood when she wakes up. That is by far the worst time to annoy her. Besides, mornings are when hangovers are at the worst.
Finances | She is terrible with money and recently ended up getting into serious debt. Do not ask her to do anything that involves dealing with money or paying off debts. She is absolutely hopeless with it.
Football | The Irish national team is no good, so it can't be a good sport. Well, that's how Aoife sees it, anyway.
Weeds | Stupid things.... They are a total pain in the neck and ruin all the hard work she puts into her garden. Aoife tends to flip if she sees any weeds in her garden.
Mispronouncing Her Name | Really, it's a pet peeve, but it frustrates her when people call her "A-oi-fe". She understands that her name has an unusual spelling, but even so! (Her name is pronounced "Ee-feh", in case anyone was wondering).
Being Proven Wrong | Aoife is... stubborn, to say the least. If someone is able to prove that what she is doing/saying is incorrect, she doesn't take that well.
Bad Weather | Seeing as she grew up in the country, Aoife hates being stuck indoors. And usually, the only time that happens is when the weather is not so good. So she can't stand rain, storms or the cold.
Skirts and Dresses | Aoife is most certainly a tomboy, and she detests wearing anything girly. She finds that, doing the work she usually does, they just get in the way and irritate her more than anything. She tends to dress in quite a masculine way, for comfort and practicality.
Discrimination | Although definitely a rather masculine woman, Aoife detests it when anyone puts women down in any way, shape or form. She believes that women are just as strong as men, and uses herself as an example; seeing as her job is one some would consider "too dangerous for a lady". |
Remain independent | She wants to remain self-reliant, and hates the thought of having to depend on someone. She's not interested in romance, and isn't one for all those smushy "happily ever afters". Her dream come true would just knowing she's able to stay strong and look after herself.
Survive | Her job is a dangerous one, and there is a constant threat of dying before she even reaches the age of 30.
Move to her home country | When all this MI6 work is said and done, she just wants to settle down back in Ireland and enjoy the countryside. | Snakes | Aoife suffers from Ophidiophobia after getting bitten by one she and her twin found in their garden when they were younger. Snakes are the one thing that really terrify her to this day.
Loosing Her Family | Despite the fact she doesn't appear to be particularly fond of her brothers, they actually mean a lot to her. Being family minded, she dreads the idea of them getting hurt in anyway. This is especially the case for her twin brother. She'll never admit to it, but Aoife hates the fact she already "lost him" once, and dreads to "loose him" again.
Defeat | Maybe it's because she wants to keep her pride intact, or just is a sore loser, but the idea of getting defeated in simply unbearable for Aoife. It just seems to be something so humiliating! |
Aoife Saoirse O'Neill-Kirkland is the oldest sibling (only just, though - a full ten minutes older than her twin) of a very large, extended family. A family which she has unfortunately grown further and further away from over time.
Aoife and her twin brother Donald were born in Ireland, and were only one ethnicity of the large, extended Kirkland family. The twins were half-siblings to their younger brothers and sister, and their relationships were rather mixed. It was fair to say the family could be considered unstable. Aoife's mother, an Irish Catholic woman by the name of Molly O'Neill, had married an English Protestant - the Kirkland part of Aoife's name. The twins and their mum moved to London to live with their father, and Aoife decided to follow her mother's religion and attended a Catholic school. However, the small family didn't last long after their father had an affair, and Molly divorced from her husband. She had tried to claim full custody of Aoife and the father of Donald, but in the end the twins were kept together with their dad. Aoife would frequently go to Ireland during her holidays to visit her mother, however, and she grew a strong affinity to the country.
As time went on, the Kirkland family grew, and soon Aoife found herself with many half-siblings. There were many fights between relatives, and Aoife was often one to be locking horns with her other brothers and sister over various incidents. Really, she didn’t get along with the majority of her family. The one person in the family she clearly liked was her twin brother, Donny. For many years, the two were glued at the hip. They did practically everything together to the extent where they were almost considered one entity; they shared similar interests, were on the same wave-length, had their own private jokes, everything. Some could say they had a special “twin bond”. Stuck together all the time, yet polar opposites all the same. Ying and yang, fire and ice, Aoife and Donny. You could not have one without the other, even if at time they were conflicting.
Growing up, Aoife had always been rebellious. Some would say she was the main “trouble maker” in the house. Brave and brash, she was not afraid to pick a fight with any of her half-siblings or parents. The Kirkland household was more often than not filled with the sound of arguments, some of which were admittedly fuelled on by Aoife herself. The family feuds would intensify as she grew, and though Aoife was always ready to be a part of them, she was never really aware of the affects they were having on the most important person to her – Donny.
If she wasn’t deliberately getting into trouble at school, she was plotting ways to leave the family and be “independent”. It was something that she always talked to her twin about, and quite honestly, something she assumed they would eventually do together. Both leave the Kirkland family, maybe move back to Ireland. The plans were never concrete, but they were there and it was exciting for the twins. “We’ll run away together and live with mum again in the Emerald Isle!” she would tell her younger twin every night. “Just you and me, Donny. We don’t need anybody else.” And even if those words were just the ramblings of an excited teenager, she had always held some truth in them. She always thought that she and Donny would leave together, just like how they had always been together. Aoife had never expected for things to go the way they did.
She and her twin were eighteen when he left. Donny, her closest friend, left. Without her. At first, it was like a slap in the face. He’d gone off when they were meant to leave together?! Aoife couldn’t understand it. But then the feelings started to change. Hurt, betrayal, anger... all of these feelings mixed together to distort the image she had of her brother and turn her against him. She hadn’t heard from him when he’d left; nobody had. He just vanished. At first, it seemed best to just move on with her life. Aoife went to university (Trinity College Dublin), to go and get a degree in Psychology. But as she was at university, something started nagging at her. It wouldn’t leave her alone.
Where was Don now?
It was a question that never seemed to leave her, and it made her worry about him constantly. So, during her second year at university, she began looking into his supposed “disappearance”. Her private investigation work at first was something for herself but somehow, she became good. And people at her college began asking for her help using her new found detection skills. It didn’t seem like much at the time, but Aoife was pretty successful. However, her search for her twin remained unproductive.
At the age of twenty-two, after graduating and returning to England, somehow the Irishwoman was found by MI6... She never did have a clue as to how they discovered her skills, but she didn't pass up the opportunity anyway.
Anyway, however they found her, Aoife O'Neill soon found herself an agent working for MI6. And she was sent straight in at the deep-end. A double agent. It was a dangerous job, but somebody had to do it. On one of her earliest assignments, Aoife was sent into go undercover in a criminal gang. She thought she would be prepared for it, but really, there was no way she could have seen what was coming when she got involved. No sooner had she befriended the leaders, she met the rest of the gang. And she found her brother. Donny was a member of the gang she was infiltrating.
It was a miracle he didn't blow her cover, but luckily for her, the mission was a success. The group was obliterated, and all the members were captured; including Donny. Then, her sisterly instincts had kicked back in again, and the next thing she knew Aoife was persuading HQ to spare her twin. Luckily for her and her brother, they did. Probably because she had convinced HQ that Don had provided honest intel that aided to their success.
Aoife O'Neill became a very successful agent after that, working in the field for five years. Despite the fact she tended to stray from orders, her track record was consistent and pretty clean. In fact, she was considered MI6's top agent.
She had remained completely dedicated to her job, and always tried to perform at her full potential to complete a mission successfully. Her social life was doing pretty well for a while there as well. Aoife had somehow found herself in a serious, committed relationship with Vash Zwingli, one of the agents she would most often work alongside with. It was a strange, yet lovely relationship. The two respected each other, were there for each other without having to worry about any secrets, and though she may never have admitted it, she loved that grumpy Swiss guy. Not only that, but slowly she had been able to patch up her relations with her family, particularly Donald. Yes, it was a long and tedious process, but they were getting there.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Vash and Aoife's relationship, although generally good, was far from perfect. Everyone fights occasionally, though the two stubborn personalities tended to clash more often than not. When Aoife was informed she would be leaving London for a year to infiltrate and shut down the Parisian unit of FOL, Vash broke off the relationship, leaving Aoife hurt and bitter as she flew off to France.
However, a year later, Aoife returned to MI6 in London. Her mission was successful - she was able to take down the terrorist sect almost entirely single-handedly and get out alive. MI6 hailed her a hero, calling her one of their best agents; heck, she was even given a pay rise. When she returned, however, she and M had to attend meetings with CI representatives, after a huge blow-out and accusations of MI6 overstepping their boundaries in dealing with FOL. During these meetings, she met a man named Michael Collins, who she eventually began dating. At MI6, Aoife was also given the position to mentor and act as a contact for a new, rookie undercover agent name Nesia. Aoife took the job on happily, forming a rather close bond with her "ward".
In the mean time, she has happily returned to the field, and things have returned to how they were a year ago. Well, almost entirely. Some things, old bonds which were broken, still have yet to be fixed. |
Cold. It was so, very cold. Painfully so, in fact. It felt as though every nerve in her body had been frozen, leaving her numb yet at the same time well aware of the bitter chill. This is it. This is how I’m going to die.Her thoughts had been bleak, just like the darkness of the Thames which she had been subjected to for what felt like hours. Aoife O’Neill was alive, yes, but barely. Though her mind was screaming at her to get away from the river and seek help, her body refused to cooperate. She was tired… exhausted… so very sleepy… The strain of the ordeal was making it virtually impossible to keep her eyes open, so much so that she couldn’t work out if the darkness she saw was the night closing in, or just her own vision fading. Whatever it was, the darkness was welcoming and inviting. She was finding it hard to resist its charms, hard to not give in and allow the night to swallow her up. I probably won’t be missed anyway. Maybe this isn’t so bad…She was only vaguely aware of her body being lifted up and carried away from the water. Had she had a more clear state of mind, maybe she would have struggled, called for help, or fought them off. After all, what if it was Ivan’s gang, sent to finish the job off? But no, now she had no energy left. Not even a single drop which she could have used to protest with. Without any fight left within the woman, she finally succumbed and allowed the darkness to take over her mind. ~~~ The first thing Aoife became aware of was a strong scent lingering in her nose. Candles? Incense? Next, although she still felt drenched and frozen to the bone, she was lying down on something comfortable, soft. Yes, this was comfortable. A bed, perhaps? A soft groan emitted from her voice, and eyelids slowly fluttered open to reveal a pair of tired, emerald green irises, staring up at the ceiling above. Aoife blinked a couple of times, before turning her head to one side in order to take in her surroundings. She was in a place she had never seen before in her life. The entire space seemed incredibly Eastern European with its quirky décor, and the room was full of candles. Odd.“Ooh, she’s awake~ Quick! Go tell mama!” Aoife turned her head in the direction of the voice, just in time to catch the tail end of a young woman hurrying out through the threshold of the room. However, there were still two strangers standing beside the Irishwoman, one of whom was busying playing with her hair. The redhead blinked again, her mouth parted slightly in confusion as she watched the two girls with confusion. “W-where am I?” her throat was dry and hoarse, making the words she was trying to formulate feel awkward on her tongue. Her vocal chords felt just as tired as the rest of her body; had she been screaming when she was underwater? She couldn’t remember, nor did she really want to. Any other question she might have wanted to voice was suppressed by a tremendous, hacking cough which tore through her throat, leaving the woman gasping for air. Her lungs still had to adjust to being on dry land once more, it seemed. “Mama will see you now.” It was a different voice that time. The young woman who had left earlier had once again returned, and was waiting expectantly outside the door. It seemed Aoife had little choice in whether she would be leaving the bed or not, though, as almost instantly the largest of the three was reaching down and pulling the redhead to her feet, supporting her weight when her knees buckled underneath her. A tired sigh left Aoife’s lips, and soon she was being led out of the room and down a flight of stairs, apparently to meet “mama”. Whoever that was. If it was somebody linked to Ivan Braginsky, Aoife wasn’t sure if she wanted to find out. |
