Athena sighed. Today was a busy night, busier than normal. She didn't mind the poor saps trying to make it big, if all else she pitied them. Sure, they could win big, the the chances of that were very low. Of course, that didn't stop them from trying.
She was currently handing out drinks, since someone called in sick and a replacement was needed quickly. Being the kind person she was, she volunteered. What a mistake that was. Oh, the Greek woman wished he hadn't opened that mouth of her and just kept with what she usually did. At least people advised her on the basics, or else it would have been disastrous.
So there she was, standing around by the indoor fountain. The location could have been better, but at least she wasn't around those drunks. She shuddered slightly at the thought. No doubt would they attempt to advance on her, especially since she was a bit of a favorite to frequent costumers, but lesser so to some of her co-workers.
'Oh, I should have washed my makeup off... she thought, looking around the room. She kept it on, since she figured that she would go back onto the stage once the shift was over. Perhaps she would be able to go home, for once getting a decent night sleep compared to her very small one. She looked at the clock on the wall. A few more minutes...
She could hear all the chatter with a few arguments in the background, all of them acting as if they were trying to drown the others out. It was a room of people, trying to be louder than the rest to continue their conversation. Hopefully it wouldn't get any louder than it already was. The volume of it all seemed to be at it's max. If it got any louder, well, the sounds would be deafening.
She gave small, kind smiles to people who passed by, holding out her tray of champagne slightly. The bar was packed, so this was the only alternative at the moment. There wasn't much to it, just smile and offer. Not much needed to be said, which she was grateful for since she wasn't the most outgoing of people. She was fairly shy, which is why she chose a job that didn't involve talking with strangers.
Everything was going fine...until someone bumped into her. She was sent backwards, bumping into the edge of the fountain before she could regain her balance. Man did she hate high heels, especially the stilettos she was required to wear.
SPLASH!
She gasped when she felt the cold water drench her from head to to. Oh, this was so embarrassing, since it seemed like everyone was staring at her now. Her cheeks turned bright red as she felt tears brim up in her eyes. Oh dear, she hoped she didn't get a pay cut for this. Or worse, she hoped she didn't get fired. This was the only job she had, and one she enjoyed fairly much. It would be terrible if she ended up losing it.
She took off her shoes, since they wouldn't help if she were to get out. She slowly stood up, her gaze downwards, hoping she didn't cause too much damage. She glanced up and saw a few people who got hit with water. The glasses she had were on the floor, shattered. That was sure to come out of her paycheck, she just knew it.
"U-Um, s-sorry..." she said softly to the people around her, looking at the ground once more. She felt so bad, getting them wet like that. Surely they would complain to her boss. 'Everthing w-will be fine, right? Miss Grimaldi is very kind a-and forgiving... She'll u-understand... Yeah, sh-she will. Everything will be fine, j-just keep thinking positively...' she mentally told herself, trying to look to the bright side, even though her tears threatening to spill over. She was already having a bad day to begin with, this just made it a hundred times worse.

| He was starting to think this was a bad idea.
Zlatko was a nice enough guy, but the entire point of hanging out with him was – well, to hang out, even if it was at a fancy-ass casino Marko would never go to otherwise... Though according to Zlatko, it wasn't even that fancy, but he'd then went on to say in the same conversation that it was run by the Princess of Monaco, which – in Marko's opinion – had basically overridden his original 'it's not that fancy' point. That aside, his friend (although, he used that term loosely) had been sat at the blackjack table for almost an hour, completely into the game. So into the game that he hadn't even heard Marko's exasperated surrender of 'I'm going to get a drink'; he'd stuck around for the first game, but really, watching Zlatko use the techniques he learnt on the back streets of Varna as a kid (which could, by casino standards, have been considered cheating) got boring after a while.
He hadn't even realised how stuffy and warm the card room had been until he'd left. Maybe he'd go stand outside and have a smoke before getting a drink – that sounded like it might lift his mood a bit. It wasn't like his companion was going to be coming to look for him any time soon, so he had plenty of time.
He had passed the bar and foyer area, however, when there was a clattering and splash not far I,/from where he was walking. He turned around, as did several other people in the room, almost all eyes on the indoor fountain. Well, it didn't take a genius to figure out someone had gone hurtling backwards into the water... Yeesh. A quick look around showed that a few people close by to the fountain were grumbling and moving away after having been hit by the water and... Well, Marko wasn't exactly the definition of a gentleman, but it didn't look as if anyone else was going to do it – should the fountain water so tragically ruin their suits or dresses – he was going to have to.
After having made his way back to the fountain, he placed his foot on the ledge and motioned to the drenched woman in front of him. “Here, let me help you out of there.” | Words: 397

Looking up, the Greek could see people move away. She couldn't really blame them, since most of the people around weren't the kindest of people. They just wanted to get rich, not caring about anyone around them. People were so self-centered nowadays. If people cared more about about those around them, then perhaps the world wouldn't be such a bad place.
"Here, let me help you out of there"
She was pulled out of her train of thought by a voice. Athena looked over to see to whom the voice belonged to. She was a bit shocked to see it wasn't one of her co-workers, but instead a man around her age. A handsome man, at that. Why would he go out of his way to help her?
Just goes to show chivalry wasn't entirely dead yet.
"...Okay...." she squeaked, hesitantly taking the man's hand with her free one. She was actually grateful for his help, since she doubted that she could get out of the fountain on her own without appearing to be even more of a klutz.
She put one of her bare feet on the edge of the fountain. She carefully pulled herself up, trying not to fall back into the fountain in the process, taking the kind man with her. Oh, that would make everything even more embarrassing.
She placed her other foot next to her first, steadying herself before stepping onto the ground. She winced slightly at the scattered glass poking at her feet, though she could just deal with it later. "Th-Thanks for the h-help..." she said softly.
She could hear hush murmuring from the crowd, eyes still staring at her. She probably looked as if she nearly drowned in the Thames. She was shivering slightly since the water was freezing. It was as if someone placed a bunch of ice in it.
Then she remembered, she didn't let go of his hand yet. The fading blush reemerged as she quickly took her hand out of his, holding it close to her chest. "Sorry a-about that..." she apologized quickly, beginning to get a bit nervous as she turned her attention to her feet.
She hoped the other didn't think much about it. Oh, what if he got mad? That wouldn't be good for her at all, now would it?
More importantly, she hoped that whoever he might have been with didn't think much about it. Oh dear, what if he was with his lover and they got jealous? Either way, the last thing she wanted to get yelled at.

| He took her hand and helped her step up and out of the water, most of his weight forwards on the foot he'd hitched up on the fountain's ledge, preventing him from toppling in himself. The only way he was going to end up not upright was if the woman slipped forwards onto him, henceforth probably causing him to land on his backside. That didn't happen, though – luckily... It wasn't like she needed to go flying for a second time, after all.
“You're wel--” He stopped mid-sentence. “Ah – hey, mind the glass...” He said, only having noticed that there was shattered remnants of what must have been drinks on the floor at all until she had stepped down from the fountain ledge and practically onto it. The last thing she needed after taking a fall was sharp pieces of glass in her feet. Which lead him to wonder... “You're not hurt, are you?” The best he could do was put a hand on the side of her arm and gently manoeuvre her away from the glass, whilst hoping she wasn't too disorientated to realise the reason for him doing so.
Upon doing so, he realised she was shivering... Well, the water was ice cold, from what he could tell; not exactly the nicest of places to go hurtling backwards into. After taking his hands off her arm, he shrugged his jacket off and offered to place it over her shoulders. It was only a cheap one; he wouldn't have bothered wearing it at all had he not been told by Zlatko to make sure he at least looked as if he wanted to blend in with the crowd there, but even if it hadn't have been as cheap as it was, he really wouldn't have cared about it getting wet. | Words: 303

"I....I think so..." she replied softly, giving the man a thankful smile. She really did appreciate the help, since he was the only one who bothered to give her aid in the first place. She glanced around and saw most of the people have went on to what they were doing before her...accident. Well, at least all the attention wasn't on her anymore. Hopefully they all forgot what even happened...
"Even if I'm not...I think I-I can handle it...." she added, letting him direct her away from the glass. She could feel a few pieces, but they didn't feel to cause any major injuries from what she could tell. There was always a chance that just because she didn't notice it is why she feels no pain. She could always bandage her wounds up in the dressing room if she was hurt, no big deal.
"Maybe a few scrapes and bruises at most. I've h-had worse..." she went on as the other placed his jacket on her shoulders. She was a bit shocked, but she made sure not to expression the feeling on her face. Well, it wasn't as if she could since if all else she seemed embarrassed. She did fall into a fountain in front of everyone, after all.
"Thanks but...you didn't have to..." she said. Surely she was just a bother to him at this point, right? He was most likely had something better to do, and she didn't want to hold him up here if he did.
Her smile turned shy, not really sure what to say next. Besides, for all she knew he could just walk away. No one around here seemed interested in conversations unless it dealt with gambling, drinking, or hooking up for a night. Really, people need to get their priorities straight. She wouldn't be surprised if someone passed out in front of one of the slot machines...it has happened before...

| “Yeah. I know I didn't have to.” And neither did anyone else in the room; he supposed none of them felt obliged to give a flying fuck. “But I wanted to.” 'Wanted to what, exactly?' He wondered to himself. Wanted to be morally decent when no one else would be? He was in a profession that was centred around helping others, after all – whether it was out of a sense of duty, or just out of practise, or whatever, really, he supposed he didn't have it in him to turn a blind eye to those who needed help. It was times like this he couldn't help but feel like he was turning much softer than he would've liked to have been.
“Are you here with anyone?” He asked, before recalling the shattered glass on the floor, when a shard or two crunched beneath the sole of his shoe. No one had come to clear it up, so, putting two and two together, she must've been holding the glasses before falling into the fountain. “Ah, wait, nevermind... You work here, right?” Both were genuine questions, and Marko didn't really care what answer he received. Asides from being soaked to the bone and generally shaken up by what had happened, he didn't think she was hurt otherwise, so he could probably pass her onto a friend or a colleague and that would be that. And then maybe he'd get that walk, or that drink, and then he'd probably end up returning to his initial companion in the cards room and continue to be ignored for the rest of the evening. Well... Looking on the bright side, at least he had a story to tell of his 'valiant heroism' for the next week or so that wasn't just lab or medical work or SIS-related boasting. | Words: 303

"Yeah, I work here... Though, I don't usually hand glasses out..." she replied. She glanced around, not really seeing any of her co-workers around anywhere. 'Hm, they must be busy...I figured as much.... she thought. "Perhaps that's why I fell in so easily. Surely the others get bumped around all the time... I probably shouldn't have volunteered to help. Oh well," she laughed, trying to make light of the situation. Besides, perhaps if she forces herself to think positively, then everything will be fine... Though, it wouldn't if Heracles hears about it. Oh, she hopes her brother doesn't find out about this. That wouldn't be good, not at all. Even if he did, if she brought it up then he would wonder how she knew. She would have to be careful about what she said around him, since one wrong word could reveal more than she would like.
"...I think I can make it to the dressing room from here, it isn't that entirely far off...." That was a bit of a lie. The dressing rooms were all the way next to the stage, and if she could make it that far was as big of a mystery to her than to anyone in the room. As if they cared about her problem, though.
"Thanks again, Mister...?" Her voice trailed off, since she wasn't sure what to call him. The man didn't tell her his name. Then again, she didn't tell her his. He never did ask, which is probably why she never asked... "How embarrassing, me trying to thank you properly when I never caught your name..." she said, visibly embarrassed. She probably should have kept her mouth shut, but there wasn't much she could do about it now. What's said has been said, too late to take it back now.

| He didn't think it was anything to do with her taking on a different job for the evening; he thought it was probably more her being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyone had the potential to lose their balance, after all; it could have been anyone knocked into that fountain, and consequentially Marko could have been pulling anyone out of it. He wondered to himself – wryly – if he'd have been so ready to help if it hadn't been a pretty lady who'd fallen... He could honestly see himself being that selfish, but the thought placed him no better than any one of the uncaring snobs in the room, and so he tried not to see it from that angle, promptly shaking the thought out of his mind entirely.
“The dressing room? Where is it? I'll go with you.” The least he could do was walk with her there. Well, he figured she could probably go alone, she seemed perfectly alright with doing so, but he felt like it was the right thing to do, almost, to just offer his help again in case she wanted it. Besides, he'd need his jacket back anyway, whatever state the dry-clean only garment would be in after having been wrapped around wet shoulders... Not that he cared, particularly; it wasn't like it was part of his work outfit or anything.
He lifted his shoulders lightly, sliding his hands into his pockets. “You don't need my name to thank me properly.” But she'd asked, and so, he had to answer. He shrugged for a second time, half-smiling. “It's Marko.” | Words: 269

"Hm? Oh, it's over...by the stage..." she replied, not going to turn down his offer. There was a chance she probably wouldn't be able to make it, if her feet were worse than she thought. Or rather, the glass already poking her feet would just dig in deeper. Either way, she would probably barely make it halfway. There was always the chance she could fall over again, and perhaps end up with more injuries. Accepting the help was her best option, because surely then she wouldn't make a bigger klutz out of herself than she already did.
"It's Marko."
The Greek was pulled out of her train of thought once more. She really should stop getting lost inside her head, especially when she was talking to someone. Though, she had to admit, the other did have a pretty nice name. She rather liked it, and it seemed to suit the man perfectly. She couldn't imagine him having any other name.
Smiling slightly, she said, "Well, pleasure to meet you then, Marko. Name's Athena." She said nothing about her stage name, since it would only give away her occupation as a show girl, and she had no idea how the other would react to that.
She never expected to meet anyone in a situation such as this, maybe bump into them on the street but never because she fell into a fountain of all things. Well, at least it was indoors and not outdoors. She didn't mind the situation they were in, since surely there could be more awkward ways to meet someone. For example, she could have run him over with a moped. Gratefully, she didn't own one of those things, so no need to worry about that. If she did, well, she would be more worried about the people around her and their safety rather than her own.

| Marko took a moment to look around and actually find where the stage was. Well, that wasn't too far, he supposed... And maybe by the time she was cleaned up and he'd gotten his jacket back, Zlatko might have finished at the Blackjack table. He snorted to himself as he thought about that; nah that guy was gonna be there a while... So at least he'd still have time for a walk and a drink, if nothing else. Maybe he'd even throw in the towel after that and head off home without the guy... And then perhaps consider getting a new set of friends... Well, most of them were okay, as okay as a group of Eastern Europeans could be expected to be... Half of them probably did illegal jobs for a living, if they weren't already illegally in the country to begin with. Prejudice on this matter aside, they were mostly good guys, sure, but fun to hang out with? Well, Zlatko wasn't exactly doing them any favours in that department.
“Alright, Athena.” He said, taking a step forwards and motioning towards the stage area with his head. “Let's go, then.” If nothing else, he was happy to cut through the crowd of people in the room to allow her a straight path to the stage. He'd done that for people before, although not all people were accommodating to the needs of others and he'd often ended up losing his patience with them, in turn making himself look like the bad guy. He honestly hoped that wouldn't be the case this evening. | Words: 263

While he other looked for the stage, Athena took that time to check her feet. Might as well do it now and see if she was able to walk alright, or if at all. She winced slightly and she lifted up one of her feet, placing a hand on Marko's shoulder so she wouldn't lose her balance. She sighed slightly when she saw quite a bit of blood dripping down, though she could barely feel the glass at all.
"Damn it, just what I fucking needed..." she muttered under her breath, setting her foot down slowly. Hopefully the other didn't notice it, but from what she could tell he wasn't paying attention. Thank goodness... She didn't want to worry him in anyway. Besides, she could deal with it on her own...
She let go of the other and looked at the stage. "Yeah, let's..." she said softly, taking a step forward. She slowly moved towards the stage, trying to not put too much pressure onto her wounded feet. She stepped very lightly, not wanting to push the glass deeper into her feet. That would be even more of a pain to pull out, that was for sure. Oh, she hoped that the blood wasn't making too much of a mess. It stains, and pretty badly at that. Hopefully the carpet won't get too ruined, though it was already a dark color itself so maybe it wouldn't show...?
"I do apologize for all this if you have something you needed to do...or if you had someone to go to..." she said. She felt as if she was a bit of a burden, only keeping the man away from whatever he was about to do. Surely he didn't think of her as a problem, right? He was helping her, and bothered to help her in the first place...

| Before he had time to move any further forward, he felt her hand on his shoulder. In question of why she seemed to be doing that, Marko glanced back towards her. “What's wrong?” He asked. “Are you...” He was about to ask if she was hurt, if she couldn't walk and therefore needed him for balance, but casting his gaze downwards at her foot as she placed it back to the floor answered that for him. “Ah, shit. Why didn't you say you were bleeding?” He frowned, mentally scolding himself for having not realised sooner... He was sure he'd steered her clear of all the glass, and surely that had been the reason her feet had been cut.
Regardless, she was trying to walk... Well, the pressure on the cuts wasn't going to help at all; it would only worsen things, especially if there was still any glass actually in her skin. Whether there was or not was a different matter – the point was she couldn't walk in such a state.
“I've no place to be... Not really.” He didn't think now was the time to go into detail about why he was there, but he said this anyway, just to reassure her she wasn't wasting his time. “Look, nevermind that. Here, you can't walk with your feet like that.” He held his hands on her shoulders, preventing her from attempting to walk any further. He was aware that his next offer was going to sound strange, but he couldn't think of any other solution that wasn't having her sit on the edge of the fountain so he could at least help her take out the glass... Which would have been much weirder, thinking about it like that – she had no idea he was a doctor, after all. “I'll carry you to the dressing room.” | Words: 307

"Well, I didn't know until I checked... It's nothing, really..." she replied softly. It wasn't all that big a deal she could deal with it herself. No problem, sure it would hurt while she walked but she could stick through it for as long as she could.
She was caught a bit off guard when he stopped her. Even more so when he offered to carry her. "Th-That isn't necessary, I assure you... I can walk fine enough. Thanks for the offer, though." It would be a bit odd, being carried all the way to the dressing room. Besides, people could somehow take it the wrong way, especially if they were unaware of her fall into the fountain. People were strange things, making up whatever they could about something if it made sense and could double as juicy gossip.
She knew that very well, unfortunately.
Then there was a chance that she could possibly be dropped, whether it's on accident or not. Finding herself meeting the ground below her was just as bad as falling into a fountain, especially if it was right afterwards. If all else, it was probably worse. At least with the fountain she had water to cushion her fall, but her current surroundings...well, there was just ground and that was it.
Long story short, she didn't want to be carried. The only way he could ever be close to getting her in his arms was to just do it despite her protests. Even then she wouldn't be in a good mood. If all else, she would probably try to wriggle her way out of his grip and find herself on the ground once more. Heck, she would even let herself fall. She wasn't going to let herself be carried and that's final...but it couldn't hurt to try, no?

| He couldn't help but roll his eyes a little. “That wasn't an offer.” He half-chuckled, trying to make it sound like a bit of a joke, but really, hearing her declining him there was only going to make him more persistent. “Don't worry about me dropping you, I'm stronger than I look.” Again, as light-hearted as his statement was, he was serious. At least, in his mind, he was stronger than he looked... He'd carried injured women before, after all – and across longer distances than what was separating them and the stage area.
Before the woman could say anything more about the matter, he stood facing her, one arm quickly looping around her waist and hoisting her up over his shoulder. He had a hunch that she might try to wriggle out of his hold, and so instead favoured that method over holding her lengthways in his arms... At least that way, there was far less of a chance of dropping her... And now that he thought about it, he wasn't really used to ferrying conscious women around; they were usually knocked out beforehand one way or another.
“Sorry. At least your feet won't be in shreds this way.” Marko didn't sound nearly as apologetic as he thought he should have. Though, he wondered if she even heard him say that at all, since now he had started to walk across the room, one arm held over the back of her legs to keep her from slipping off his shoulder; ignoring the questioning looks from the other people in the room, in the meantime. From such an angle, it was possible that she wouldn't be able to hear him... Not that it mattered, he could apologise again if he had to once they were at the dressing room. | Words: 299

Athena opened her mouth to protest some more, but before she knew it, she was over the man's shoulder. A deep blush crossed her face, partly of embarrassment. Surely people would be giving the two strange looks.
"H-Hey! Put me d-down!" she said, lightly hitting Marko's back with her fists. She barely heard his apology, which only served to anger her more. He sure didn't sound sorry, from what she could tell. Who did this guy think he was, sweeping her off her feet like that? Some sort of knight in shining armor saving a damsel in distress?
This fair maiden was anything but amused. No way was she going to let some wanna-be prince charming try to show how "chivalrous" he was.
"Put me down. Put me down. Put me down!" she repeated, continuing to pound on his back. She kicked her feet slightly, not at all liking the current position she was in. It was uncomfortable, and surely no one liked a someone's shoulder pushing into their abdomen.
She wriggled slightly, though she was afraid if she did anymore she would end up face-down on the floor. This was all so embarrassing, feeling eyes glued onto her as the other made his way to the stage. They probably ignored the fact her feet were bleeding and thought the situation was entirely different. A snicker here, a few whispers there. The Greek woman could feel herself on the edge of tears.
"....Put me down...." she whimpered, her hits slowing down. She stopped moving her feet and just hung there, not moving or saying another word. She wanted to go home and forget all of this even happened. She doubted that would happen. Surely everyone around here would spread word of what happened, and what "happened".
'I'm so going to get fired.... And my last day was terrible as well and won't get better....' she thought with a small frown.
