The slight squeeze, almost of reassurance, from Carmen widened Antonio's smile even further—if that was even humanly possible, that is. The warmth of Carmen's hand felt very real. His sister! Had he wanted a sister? He never really knew, he'd never really thought of it. But here and now, he was glad that she was there. They had been born twins after all, they were supposed to be reunited. Antonio had known of friends who had complained about annoying siblings in the past. When he was younger, he'd never quite understood why they couldn't learn to appreciate their family. He and Carmen had argued a lot since they'd met, yes, but that was because they didn't know each other well enough, sí? He'd like to believe that. Maybe this was a God-given opportunity to get to know his sister better and learn to heal the rough patches between them.
Carmen seemed lost in thought, though Antonio didn't know what and assumed that many similar thoughts must be running through her mind. He often forgot to consider that Carmen, like him, had never had a sibling and was adjusting to this new revelation. He briefly recalled when he'd first met Carmen. He'd known he had a sister long before Carmen had, but that was mainly from Antonio sifting around and being in places he should not have been. Meeting Carmen was an entirely different experience. It'd been...well, it'd been shocking to say the least. Antonio may have known he had a sister, but by no means did he expect to meet her in London.
Antonio craved family, and something told him that Carmen did too. Possibly more than he did. Well, it was good they had found each other, wasn't it? He knew he had not been the brother that Carmen had expected him to be, but he'd try! Hopefully he'd do better than he had in the past.
Carmen led him easily behind the counter into the kitchen, not saying much until she turned around to face him. She smiled, and Antonio couldn't help but smile back. “Tonio, te extrañé.”
Antonio smiled, laughing a little as he squeezed his sister's hand before letting go of it. “Te extrañé también,” he said warmly in Spanish.
He didn't really know what to say to Carmen so Antonio leaned in and gave her a hug. "I'm glad that we could talk," he said happily. "Though..." he laughed a little "I don't know what you want to talk about."
