| He glanced out of the window as he sipped on the coffee, realising that even though she'd said she'd understood, he'd managed to make the conversation even more awkward than before. Goddammit. Was there any way he could possibly make it any worse?
Apparently, there was.
“I was trying to ask you out on a date because I think you're good looking.”
Had the coffee been cool enough for him to take larger mouthfuls, he'd probably have done a spit-take right then and there. Thankfully, it had been a small sip and... Well, not so thankfully, it had gotten caught in his throat just at the moment she had said that. He coughed a bit, setting the cup back down as quick as he could so he didn't end up spilling it in a choking fit.
Smooth, Marko. Fucking smooth.
He only managed to clear his throat properly after she had stopped talking, and so he hadn't really caught the end of what she'd said. He made himself swallow a couple of times, to try to ease the sharp pain off. “Urgh.” He wheezed out another cough. “Sorry, I uh...” What was it she'd been talking about, again? Oh yeah... She'd asked him on a date. Because she thought he was good looking. And that was about the time he'd started choking. He felt remarkably stupid right about now, which made him grumble inwardly, the tips of his ears turning pink and pricking with heat. “I'd be... Uh... Happy to go. Really.” Exactly how convincing that sounded, he wasn't entirely sure. He leant back in his seat, at least trying to look cool. “It's just that, my schedule's kinda tight, y'know? I don't think one day out'll hurt much, though.” As casually as he possibly could attempt to be, he folded his hands behind the back of his head. | Words: 309

Vesna nearly jumped out of her seat in concern as he start choking, worried that he might need some help. “Ahh, I'm sorry! That was too blunt wasn't it? Are you alright?” Shit, did she do something wrong this time? She wasn't the type to beat around the bush or try to act coy, it just seemed way too silly to her. It was just her way to be direct, but perhaps she should have been more tactful. At least she didn't add the part where she thought he had a nice ass. Even she knew better than that.
But he agreed to go, so it did work out in her favour though, right? To be honest, she was really pleased right now. It wasn't every day that these things worked out so well. She didn't pressure him though, right? Vesna wanted him to go because he wanted to, not because she complimented him and made him feel obligated. “Ahh I'm glad! Like I said, it's in two weeks so I'll try not to bother you until then.” She smiled, brushing her hair back; a nervous habit she didn't realize she had. That was thoughtful of her, right? The last thing she wanted to do was annoy him or cause problems for him, especially with such an important job. “Ahh, but please let me know if you can't go!” The last thing she wanted to happened was to be stood up.
“Sorry if this is a little bit out of the ordinary as dates go. I thought it would be more relaxed than watching each other eat or sitting in a dark theatre not talking.” She said, reaching down for her cup and realizing nothing was left. When did she drink it all?! “Oh wow, I drank that quickly. How are you for time? If you need to go soon I'll just get another one to go.”

| He was doing fine for time. Perfectly fine, actually. And, no, she hadn't been too blunt... He'd just been an idiot. Well, okay, perhaps she had been kind of blunt, but he wasn't going to place any blame on her for it. Either way, perhaps it was time he got going... Once he'd finished his drink, anyway. He reached back over for the cup and took another large mouthful to clear at least a quarter of it away, as well as the itch in his throat the minor coughing fit had caused.
“I guess I can spare another five minutes.” He said. Two weeks, then? He was fairly certain that would be enough time to pre-book a day off, then again if there were any appointments he'd already made for the day he'd have to call her and tell her otherwise... He'd have to check, once he got back. Still, two weeks was also enough time for her to hopefully forget he'd managed to make himself look like a moron in front of her. Urgh. The best he could do was try not to get pissed off at himself until he was back in his office at work and able to flip his in-tray over or something.
He drank another mouthful of the coffee, before trying to get the topic of the conversation back on track. “I'll check, anyway, once I get back. I'll call ya anyway, whether somethin' comes up or not, yeah? I mean, I don't usually pen things in too far in advance, but, y'know, bosses can spring stuff on ya at the last minute.”
Shrugging, he reached into his pocket with his free hand, pulling out a few coins and setting them in front of her. “Here, then. Lemme at least pay for your next drink.” | Words: 300

Oh. Oh oh. Was this how it felt to have a man buy a drink for you on a date? Regardless if it was just a coffee, he was still buying her a drink. Vesna looked down at the change in front of her then back up to him. Should she refuse, insist that she had it? Well, she probably didn't have if she was honest with herself. She spent the last of her change on that scone. Just take it, go! With a smile she scooped the change off the table and got up. “Thanks.”
That was it? That was the best she could come up? God damn it Vesna. She wanted to slap herself as she stood in line. She should have said something like 'I'll get the next one' or anything like that. Nope, just 'thanks'. Oh well, nothing she could do now. With a quick thank you to the barista, she took her coffee back to the table. At least she remembered to get it in their travel containers and not a mug. She didn't want to make him wait for her.
Did she say anything about her schedule? That might have been a good thing to remember. “Oh, my schedule is pretty consistent, we have the same show times for months. Rehearsals and training are usually pretty regular too, unless we're not getting something right or we have new guys or new horses. I'm one of the lead equestrian performers so I usually have to break them in with Paulo, but we're not due to get any until the new year.” At least, that's what Paulo said. He better not have lied to her, she just finished training 3 horses last month and didn't make overtime for the extra hours she put in.
Tangents, she was going off on tangents again. “I think what I was trying to say is that I don't think I'll have to cancel on you or anything.” She brought the cup up to her lips and took a sip, burning her tongue for a second time. “Damn it, I did it again..”

| As Vesna left the table to pay for her next coffee, Marko drank down the last of the liquid in his cup. He waited until she'd come back, before he rose from his seat himself, taking the empty crockery and its saucer in hand. “If you're sure.” He told her. He'd already figured that she had taken her own schedule (be it work or life in general) into consideration when she'd initially asked if he'd wanted to go with her. She was lucky, to have one that was so consistent... A timetable set in stone was a rare luxury, in the medical field, usually reserved for family doctors or general practitioners. In that respect, Marko's own wasn't too bad in that respect, but there was always the possibility of getting paged and called in every time he took a day or two off.
He approached the counter, sliding the cup over to the server before returning to her, cocking his wrist and checking the time on his watch. Though he had told her he could spare five minutes, he did still have longer than that; however, it would still be cutting it fine, if he continued to linger around in there. “I need to start settin' off.” He said, sliding his hands back into his pockets. “I've, er... Got enough time to walk with ya to the station, though. If ya want.” He shrugged a little after he'd said that. He wasn't too sure he knew her well enough just yet to make assumptions about her, but even so, thinking back to the recent night when she'd gotten hit in the face and he'd offered to help her home, he had a hunch that she'd tell him she didn't want to bother him if he needed to get back, or take up any more of his time... Something along those lines. Still, it was worth a shot to ask, right? | Words: 320

Walk her to the station huh? It seemed like a pretty typical situation from all the romance movies she had seen. However, if he needed to get back she didn't want to make him late. Vesna hated being a bother after all. She wasn't really sure how well this get together had actually went, since it seemed like she nearly killed him at one point. He was good company despite the lack of conversation though. On account of her nerves she seemed to rattle on to fill the void, but when she was more comfortable with someone, sitting in silence didn't bother her much. Either way, she was sure if they got to know each other more they'd meet somewhere in the middle.
She was torn though, wanting to accept but also wanting to be conscientious of his work schedule. Her being late wasn't nearly as bad as a doctor being late. To buy herself a few more moments to think she picked up her large gym bag of the floor and slung it over her shoulder. “I don't want to keep you if you need to get back. If you really have the time I don't mind you walking me over.” A good answer, she thought to herself, switching her cup to her free hand. He wasn't so much a stranger anymore, so she didn't mind him seeing her off.
It was then that it dawned on her that she actually had no idea where the station was. She flew over here in such a frenzy that she forgot to take note of her surroundings. If he refused she'd just have to ask a stranger, no big deal. “But if you are strapped for time could you point me in the direction of the station? I forgot where I am.” Vesna admitted sheepishly, grinning despite her embarrassment. After all, it wasn't like she was the only person in the world that got lost sometimes and they could laugh about it sometime.

| “I've got the time.” He replied, snorting quietly when she admitted she didn't actually know the way back, herself. He turned in the direction of the exit, waiting for her to follow before heading towards it, twisting the handle of the door and opening it, standing over the threshold with his back to the door to let her through. “S'really not far from here, though, I dunno which way you came. S'just a matter of cuttin' through the streets.” He motioned with the hand he'd taken out of his pocket across the road, to the corner where it met another road. “Down there, 'til ya get to a turn on your left. Then the first right, and the station's 'round the corner from there.”
He stepped away from the door once she was through, letting it shut behind them. Feeling the cold, he placed his hand back in the warmth of his pocket. “Easy, right? 'Least, it should be.” He added, with some scepticism. He didn't feel much like reeling off the directions until he'd started to feel like that God-awful satnav he'd been given when he'd first started work at the SIS building. If Vesna had any sense, she'd slam his head against a wall before that happened. At any rate, it was irrelevant, because he was going to show her the way there, regardless.
“I mean, ya still managed to get here in the first place, yeah?” He stood by the curb of the road, waiting until a couple of cars had gone past before heading over to the other side, assuming she would be following again. “Even if you were runnin', ya still had to know more or less which direction to go in.” It might not have been the easiest route, and she could have been going in circles at some point, but she had made it there regardless. | Words: 313

With a quick shrug, Vesna shifted her bag to a more comfortable position on her shoulder and followed him out of the coffee shop. “Ahh sorry, even if you tell me I'd probably still got lost. I'm a visual and.. what was the word.. kisne, uhh..I learn by seeing and doing basically.” Which would certainly be a fault if she tried to further herself academically but in her chosen profession she excelled despite that handicap. It was nice of him to tell her, but she was already lost at the first turn. She'd be going in circles until someone took her to it.
When he mentioned her getting here in the first place Vesna started to laugh. “I was running so fast that I didn't even see anything, I just blanked. It happens when I'm running. And I kept saying 'well you better hurry up Vesna before he leaves and thinks you stood him up'. So I just went whooosh-,” she made a motion with her hand, to show how fast she was going, “-to hurry up and get here before you left.” Oh god, she would have felt terrible if he was gone before she got there. Especially after he took the time out and she was late because she overslept.
“Anyways, thank you for taking the time to meet up with me for coffee and all your help from before. My boss was a little bit mad about the bruising so they were none too gentle putting the make up on. Guess I kind of deserved since I let my temper get the better of me.” Juliana was definitely pissed when she saw Vesna's face the night of their performance after the fight. She had never seen the little Spanish woman get so angry before. “We should do this again some time. When you're not busy of course.” Subtle Vesna, don't come on too strong. She was interested in him but she didn't want to seem overly eager and chase him off. All she could do was show interest and hope for the best.
