I MUST ADMIT, I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER | Tonight was a perfect night for hunting.
Well, perhaps she should rephrase that. All nights were relatively "perfect" for hunting for Sera, but tonight was especially so. There was plenty to do on a night as clear as this, but bothering a few wandering people in the dirty streets sounded particularly enticing. She was armed with all her usual weapons, but tonight she would most likely brandish her favorite knife -- if she even needed it. Sera longed for some sparring action; it had been so long since she had the chance to actually move around and fight with hand-to-hand combat. She missed it, really, and she could hardly wait to feel the excitement and thrill of just punching someone as a way to get out her energy physically. The fact that she was technically an assassin and therefore was supposed to remain quiet and stealthy while she committed her crimes didn't really help, but it was long overdue for her to go out and fight. There was a chance she would feel merciful tonight, and not actually end her prey's lives if they entertained her enough... But that would remain only an if until she found the right prey.
The alleyways were certainly the best places to start, many tended to loiter in the grimy areas. She couldn't exactly say why, but perhaps it had to do something with being away from parental guardians, or how people tended to seclude themselves in dark areas to match their emotional mood swings. Sera couldn't claim to understand it, but whatever -- she didn't really care.
She slipped through the shadows; the moon was a lovely crescent tonight. Plenty of light for her. The sounds of voices grunting and laughing could be heard only around the corner, and she grinned as she approached the noise. There were several of them, from what she could discern -- maybe four or five. It would be perfect, she loved getting a group to rile and taunt. Along with their voices, the familiar roaring of engines were audible; which meant this area was close to the street. Not the most desired location, but it was good enough -- the dark would do just fine. She rounded the corner.
"Hello there, boys," Sera greeted, hands on her hips with a disarming smile, before immediately punching the closest guy to her directly in the face. She was in the mood to just dance tonight, no conversation necessary to build up suspense. There were sudden shouts of surprise and a very pained howl from the man she had just clocked. She felt the crunch of bone from the other side of her fist, and licked her lips as she saw her first victim's lackeys lunging at her from the corner of her eye. A kick to the stomach, an elbow to the chest, two more kicks and a few more good punches -- ah yes, this was the rush she had been anticipating.
It was, indeed, a perfect night for hunting.

It was the usual sort of day in the life of Leyna Barwick.
That was how things tended to start, wasn’t it? From all the books she had read, the novels and the more story-lined non-fictional works, Leyna could say a good portion began in such a similar manner. By the rather quiet life that she had made for herself for the most part she had stopped expecting anything to happen on the truly mundane spans because that was her every day. Something did happen to throw off a cog in her day to day to life this time around, though.
She was on her way back from one of her ‘dives.’ So originally called for her honestly diving right into piles of machinery at junkyards and the piles of mismatched items in secondhand stores. The woman could lose herself for hours being completely entrenched in the task of picking through everything present if it meant finding the one perfect piece. And if that also required her to go to the more shady areas of town, then so be it. In her mind she was just as likely to find her parts in a pawnshop the crime-ridden Aylesbury Estate. Galiena’s worrying be damned. While it would be wrong to call herself cocky or conceited in such a way, Leyna did believe she could protect herself. If not she could at least had enough of a head on her shoulders to know what times were best to be out and what areas to keep away from. To some the entirety of the district was just such an area – but, well, you get the idea. Don’t go digging in trashcans in the dark alleys, keep to the lit sidewalks, try not to be out after dark too long if you could help it.
Like, for example, the one she was coming up on now. Just pass right by it with your head held up, don’t even look inside – was that a woman’s voice? Before she had even come upon the space between the buildings Leyna stopped in her tracks to better listen to the sounds. Yes that was – most definitely a feminine voice. One that appeared bubbly enough. Perhaps it was nothing more than some friends, even if they were of the shady sort, greeting one another.
Friends did not, as far as Leyna knew, go from a greeting right into pained grunts and scuffles. (Unless you were the sort that sparred randomly like Leyna and her sister, but alas.)
“Excuse me,” came in a rather calm voice that was new to the space of the alley, just before another clear punch in the face. Leyna had stepped in and pulled at the shoulder of one of the group still trying to lunge at the woman – yeah, definitely not friends – until he turned around for her to give him a proper second black eye.
She was prepared for a fight. In an easy but strong stance right off to be able to last as long as needed – but, oddly enough… it only was two punches and one kick until the group was falling all over themselves to get out of the alley. That in itself made Leyna scoff somewhat under her breath. What a bunch of cowards. If it weren’t for the presence of the other that she had stepped in to check after she would have called after them, made sure they would be taken in by the police then and there. For now, though, she turned to finally get a proper look at the owner of that feminine voice she’d heard.
“I’m so sorry, are you alright?” She asked, stepping forward towards her. The girl didn’t appear to have any obvious wounds or even bruises. Even any under clothing would have some kind of clue, but – well, it never hurt to ask all the same.

I MUST ADMIT, I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER | Sera was having such a good time with this crew -- though they weren't fighting back, really, and she suspected that perhaps it was because they really couldn't actually fight. They clearly were not knowledgeable on the art of defense; although, she did seem a gleam or two of knives. Easy enough to kick out of their clumsy hands though, and she cleared the possible threat with little trouble.
The adrenaline was doing its job, now; she could feel the pure energy of the thrill pumping through her veins, rushing as she felt the electricity of this cold night. She was getting on her high like this, just beating the shit out of people, starting an unprovoked fight... It made her feel alive.
It wasn't until the voice cut in that she realized she had more company.
"Excuse me."
Damn. This was sloppy, even for her. Sera's first and automatic response was to cringe at the new voice -- a woman's, it sounded like -- because fuck it all, she was not going to have committed some of the greatest and most flawless murders in all of London and be caught for ruffling a few feathers like this. Not today.
Then she heard the sound of a fist connecting with a face as she prepared to withdraw her knife, and another muffled scream. She stilled, confused at the noise, as it sure as hell wasn't her who had done that. She looked to see the newcomer sending a few punches and even a kick flying to her prey -- her prey -- and the group howled and nearly tripped over themselves as they blindly tried to finally run away. It was unexpected, clearly, and Sera, for once, was at a loss as to what she should say.
"I'm so sorry, are you alright?"
The voice was filled with concern. She examined the other lady (her unneeded rescuer), and she immediately changed character to the poor, terrified victim of an attempt of mugging. This woman had muscles, clearly -- she certainly did some training, that figure was quite impressive. A good sparring partner, perhaps; it would be a waste to kill such a person at the moment. It was amusing how she had read the situation so entirely wrong, but she couldn't exactly be blamed -- who would suspect a young, small girl to be harassing a group of men in an alleyway, late at night? She certainly wouldn't, but she had learned the benefit that looks could be incredibly deceiving.
"O-Oh, yes, I'm fine!" Sera chirped and fluttered her eyelashes on cue as if she was blinking away tears, "Thanks for saving me! That was so scary..."
A sob escaped her, and she rubbed her eyes. Fitting for her little show.

So she was fine, at least in the bodily sense… that was good. Leyna took a moment to settle out of her tensed worry and remaining fighting sense, a soft sigh of relief leaving her nostrils. “I’m glad,” Leyna says, although there is a hint of uncertainty in her tone. The girl… still seemed frightened. Understandable, for sure, but not something Leyna felt as equipped to handle as she was with some violent punks.
Her gaze remained on the girl for another moment before Leyna looked away. A part of her wondered why such a cute girl was even in such an area at that time of night. There was enough light from the street to see basic features of someone relatively close, but otherwise the alley was rather dark. Even with the sun overhead Leyna could bet there would be shadows cast by the crammed together buildings, it being at night only made matters worse. It was beyond her to judge, she was there herself after all, but it still held a bit of curiosity for her. Perhaps she lived in the area, worked? Unlikely, but not impossible.
She was letting the silence hang for too long… “Are you alright to get home by yourself? I can walk with you if you’d like – home or… a coffee shop to calm down. It’d be no trouble.” In all honesty it probably would be better for Leyna to insist she accompany her home. But – she may not want that. If she only wanted to hurry off into her own home to lock herself in and feel safe in a familiar space, Leyna couldn’t begrudge her that. “I know some nice cafes that wouldn’t be hard to get to from here. Something warm to drink or a sweet helps in times like these.” Leyna continued, then paused.
“Ah – either way, it would probably be best to get out of here. At least somewhere with more light.”
