Westley really would have preferred relaxing at Kyle's house, sitting on his couch with a duvet wrapped tightly around himself as he poured over his french textbook for the umpteenth time. He would somehow goad the Aussie to make him some tea and then later they would turn their brains to mash while eating dinner in front of the television, the Kiwi stealthily picking out the best parts off of the other's plate. Free food, family warmth, possible retaliation for the plate picking, a far better way to spend his rare day off from class then standing around in a crowded shopping center trying to decipher the way mobile plans worked.
He really did not plan on having any need for one, actually he was still trying to convince himself that it was all a bad idea. Mobiles were nothing more than a distraction and a waste of money, it was far better to talk to someone face to face anyways. Yet the odd look people gave him whenever he explained that he did not own one was getting rather tiresome, and people had expressed to him that it was rather hard to contact him. Recently though because his father's address on his school file he had nearly had a teacher drop by to see why he had been out from school for a handful of days without calling in sick. Far too close a call for his tastes, it was still wishful thinking but he did not want the man to know that he was actually in London, and he most certainly did not want to be dragged off to live there. Having a mobile would make things simpler for other people, and he reluctantly gave in to the trend.
Still the various contracts confused him slightly, did data mean the amount of data allowed to be held on the phone? Why were minutes restricted? Why did he need to sign a contract for such a long period of time? The boy stood in front of the display of the phones that came free with a contract scratching his head as he tried to make sense of it all, had he really been disconnected from technology this long? A soft tap on the shoulder from a pretty saleswoman pulled his attention away and he smiled, giving a friendly greeting before explaining his situation to her. She seemed sympathetic, tapping her cheek with a manicured nail as she thought for a moment and listed off the plans that they had which fit his criteria. £7.70 a month, 250 minutes, and 2000 texts though he had no idea why he would ever need so many texts, it was the cheapest one available and reluctantly he asked the saleswoman to instruct him through the process.
It started out with a few bouts of mindless paperwork, the Kiwi all smiles and charm as he chatted idly with the saleswoman that he soon learned was named Donna and came to London from Edinburgh. He scribbled down his address in the specified area, the woman overlooking his paperwork for a moment before tapping his shoulder gently to grab his attention. He took a moment to finish writing the name of his street before glancing up at her apologetic face in confusion, emerald eyes widening.
"Sorry love but according to the date of birth you filled out you are only seventeen, you are going to need a cosigner. Did one of your parents come here with you? I need an adult to sign off according to our policy..."
"Oh...." he whispered, pursing his lips and staring at the blanks on the form that he had yet to fill out. He couldn't ask Kyle, he would be curious as to why he had lied about having a phone earlier, it would be an odd request for Carmen as well, and then Sadik.... Sadik would yell at him. "Ah...Can you set it aside for me?" he asked, voice trembling just a little as a little pain blossomed in his chest, it worried him and he suddenly wanted to leave much quicker than before. "I'll come back over the weekend, noon or so? Wonderful, thank you very much Donna~" he sang with false cheer, immediately scurrying out once it was acceptable to do so.
The boy had trouble keeping his composure once he was out of sight from the store window, nearly running to take a seat beside the fountain and unbuttoning his collar. The pain would pass, he had just been caught by surprise. Honestly now that he was thinking about it the throb was not nearly the worst he had experienced, more like an uncomfortable pressure than anything else. Still, he stayed seated and popped in an asprin, taking a large swig from his water bottle to was it down. He would be just fine, a few moments was all that he needed, though maybe a cold cloth would assist.
He pulled an embroidered handkerchief out of his pocket and dipped it into the fountain water before folding it in half and holding it up to his forehead for some relief. The handkerchief embroidered with his Mummy's love made him feel better almost immediately, almost as if she was there lovingly stroking his hair and kissing his forh-...OH! He had nearly forgotten about international calls, no wonder he encountered an issue~ It must have been gods way of letting him know that he was making a mistake. If he was getting a mobile then he had to be able to call his Mummy dearest on it! He slumped back on the bench, dabbing his forehead with the handkerchief as he relaxed for a few long moments.
