Lili Adelaide Zwingli Think of Lili as one of those alcoholic chocolates - something pure and sweet on the outside, but with a delightfully intoxicating center that leaves you wondering what you just indulged in. Lili likes to think of herself as an adult… sometimes it only half-fits. Unfortunately, she is still perceived by the rest of the world as an innocent, helpless little angel, and she is dead set on proving that world wrong. |

Social – Lili is filled to the brim with endless charisma. She seems to have a near endless amount of things to talk about, and if given the opportunity to she would talk the ears off of anyone she meets. She isn’t all that wary of strangers, though. As someone always willing and eager to make friends, Lili gladly responds to conversations started by people she doesn’t know. Some of her best friends in the present day are people she met on a whim, by simply starting a conversation with them randomly. Personable - Something about Lili just draws people to her, but she has never quite figured out exactly what. This does not bother her, though. Lili has found that by her most minimal efforts, she can gently pull people out of their shells. This suits her just fine, as one of the things Lili lives for is bringing smiles to people's faces. If someone feels comfortable enough in her presence to try and talk to her about things that bother them, Lili will take it upon herself to aid them as best she can. Polite - Lili is always on her best behavior and strives to be as polite as possible. She finds difficulty in her endeavors if countered with someone of particular rudeness, but she'll smile and try to hide her displeasure for the sake of a "customer is always right" ideal. She refuses to let people walk all over her, though, and should the rudeness become malicious she can be expected to defend herself. But don't worry, she'll still do it gracefully! Attentive – Lili’s attention to detail might also go hand-in-hand with her need for orderly surroundings. It also applies to how she handles her hobbies and relationships. The things she loves receive most of her attention, and she offers a lot of it. Eloquent – It might take her some push to speak of important things in front of a group, but she conveys her opinions very eloquently. When asked for her take on a particular subject, Lili is more than happy to oblige. She is not stubborn and isn’t prone to blindly clinging to her beliefs but convincing her otherwise isn’t often as easy as one might believe. She needs a certain amount of solid evidence to sway her opinions. Emotional – She has a very expressive face and equally expressive eyes. Her emotions are always plain in her face and in her voice. She wears her emotions on her sleeve and isn’t afraid to show someone how she feels about a situation. Unfortunately this also means she has little control over them. She’s easy to make sad and getting her to cry is also a very simple task. Trusting – Oh lord, sometimes to a fault. She believes in the inner goodness of people, and will put her faith and trust in the people she is closest to. She trusts her brother with anything he says – including his cover job of banker. She’s entirely convinced it isn’t a lie – so she might also be a little bit gullible if someone close tries to fool her. She isn’t stupid, but a good actor can make her believe nearly any lie. Naïve – There is a limit to this. Even under her parents, Lili lived a somewhat sheltered life protected from things they believed would corrupt her. She’s not entirely ignorant to the world around her – certainly she’s been exposed to generic things she’d learn in school and a proper sexual education – but she hasn’t experienced much of it on her own. She’s always learning something new, and this suits her just fine. She knows she doesn’t understand everything, and takes new lessons with a degree of excitement. Defiant – Also to a point. Lili’s an adult, and she is convinced Vash is either in denial of this, or believes she is incapable of making her own decisions. She’ll cooperate with him like she did when she was younger, but in many aspects of her like she retains a degree of control to the point she might go directly against his wishes. She wants to prove to him that she can take care of herself, and thus there’s a side of seriousness to complement her otherwise carefree and joy-filled nature. Orderly – She shares this trait with her brother. Lili loves clean surroundings, which seems contradicting given her love of flowers and gardening, but even her gardens have a organized form to them. She strives to be without messes as she does things, or otherwise cleans up her messes as she makes them. The house she shares with Vash is thus very rarely in any sort of disarray – in her case, the yard especially. Neither of them will allow it. Awkward Romantic – You’d think a girl as obsessed with fairy tales as Lili is would have more knowledge of romance than she actually does, but this is very untrue. In this respect she is sheltered due to her overprotective older brother, whose high standards for potential boyfriends intimidate anyone willing to make an advance. Though Lili is grateful for his dedication and protection, she can’t help but admit that sometimes it grows tiring. What girl doesn’t dream of someone to come along just sweep her off her feet? Clear Minded - She doesn't... panic, per se. Panic makes it difficult for people to cope with situations. Lili has a deceptively strong mind which prefers to review potential consequences before undergoing an action. Lili will never willingly do anything she does not want to do, especially if her brain is telling her it'll end terribly. This isn't to say she can't be driven to an extreme that might induce panic. A particularly hopeless situation will bring out any repressed tears. She prefers to have an idea of what to expect and going into anything blind will only make her nervous. Selfless - Or... so she thinks. Lili is an infallible people-helper, to the point she thinks little for herself and has dedicated everything to the happiness of others. She's convinced her motives and feelings are genuine and is utterly oblivious to her own ulterior motives. To be frank, her actions are more self-serving than she realizes, as deep down everything she does for others is for the purpose of gaining thanks and recognition. As someone as small and unimposing as she, she feels powerful in her ability to influence those around her, and failing this is a huge blow to the ego that has developed within her. In short, despite appearing to be a selfless person to others, always giving everything for the sake of those around her, she is incredibly selfish and possessive and at the core, quite manipulative in her treatment of others... and the worst part is that she is not even aware of her own faults. Honest – Lili can’t lie, so she doesn’t try. Her inner turmoil is betrayed by her eyes and facial expressions no matter how hard she tries to hide it. In the end, she kind of decided that if she trusts everyone else to tell her the truth, than they can trust her also. She’ll hesitate, naturally, but in the end she’ll always come clean. Because she believes her actions never hold any sort of negative connotation, most people never pick up on the warning signs that what she is doing is pure manipulation - she never is anxious or uncertain of anything until people perhaps begin to suspect something and distance themselves. Her actions in themselves are deceiving, and only one person has ever been able to see past her behavior and into her core. He ignored it. Unfussy - One might not have to worry about Lili being particularly picky about their tastes. Lili doesn't judge, nor does she complain about the hard work of others. She's content eating whatever brand of food and does not pay attention to prices, and as long as the colors look nice she doesn't really mind wearing any kind of clothing - which is one reason why gifts she might get from others (such as bows or ribbons) are worn with pride no matter how tacky they are. Loyal - Lili's loyalty is not something one can easily be rid of. Once her loyalty is given, you will have it forever. That said, though Lili has very many friends, her dedication is reserved only for a special few that she might come to care about on a level nearly equal to that of her brother. Anyone that manages to reach that level, however, has earned a friend for life, though thick and thin, through all things. Optimistic – In every sense of the world. She firmly believes in happy endings and though she understands that things don’t always go to plan, she believes that in the end life will always turn out for the better for those that have faith in it. She has unshakable faith in the good of the people in her life and always believes the better parts will shine through. Anything that conflicts with this belief is difficult for her to deal with, as this is never the outcome she works for. Not getting her way in the end is a huge blow to her inner ego, and with such complications in her plans and desires comes a bitterness unexpected from Lili. Protective - She is a Zwingli, and as such there is a part of her, dormant and deep inside her, that one can set off if one dares to endanger anyone she loves. Her meek, calm exterior belies this quality, making any such reaction entirely unexpected to anyone that underestimates her. But be aware that Lili is capable of fearlessness and strength in the face of something that may threaten her brother, or likewise anyone else she cares enough for. She may not have the physical strength to protect someone, but she has the heart of a lioness that one should be careful lest they way it. |

Flowers – Lili loves just about every flower, and she researches them often. She loves to learn about them, lilies especially. They are, after all, the flowers she was named after. Flowers somehow seem to always make their way into her hobbies, and if she isn't arranging flowers into bouquets or other forms of decoration, she's embroidering their designs into various clothes. Smell of Fresh Pastries – Because honestly, who doesn’t? Fresh bread and pastries are a delight for her, and when passing by bakeries on the street she can never resist buying something for herself and her brother. Embroidery – An art she learned from her mother. Embroidery is a relaxing past-time for Lili, which she mostly does in quiet. This is also a time of remembrance for her, as she quietly recalls her parents. If it's a particularly quiet or slow day and she happens to actually have nothing to do, she can be found huddled up somewhere working on one of many projects. Reading – Lili is opposite Vash in her love of fairy tales and fantasy. They are her favorite genre of book, and some stories she’ll read over and over. Although given little evidence to prove it, Lili is convinced, perhaps naively, there is some kind of magic in the world and if people believe hard enough they will see it. She’s merely concluded she doesn’t believe as much as she could. Her favorite fairy tale is Rapunzel. Animals – There are a few exceptions to her general love of animals, such as rats or spiders or certain other creepy-crawlies (This girl even likes snakes!) When Lili was younger, she'd often surprise (and anger) her parents by bringing home wild animals she found in the forest or fields. In her defense, many of them were injured and she couldn't leave an animal to die alone without feeling guilty. Recently she has developed a powerful fondness for gerbils, but she loves pretty much every animal. Please expect her to pet every animal. Listening / Stories - Lili never tires of hearing people tell her things about themselves and will listen with all of her attention. This goes double if they're telling her a particularly interesting story, but Lili doesn't pick and choose favorites. People are books, and she has a knack for opening them in such a way that they might divulge what they know or what they are. On the flip-side, she loves telling stories of her own, and can easily talk the ears off of an unprepared audience. Smiles - Especially the ones she brings to people's faces. Lili gets a lot of joy out of being able to cheer people up if they feel down, and the smiles she receives for her efforts are wonderful prizes. Rain - Rain is a natural lullaby that helps her sleep at night. It gives live to plants and animals, it cleanses the earth, and makes the sky blue. Given such importance and beauty, how can she not appreciate rain for all the good it does? To people who complain about the rain, she will merely nod her head and smile as if she understands their dislike, but she really doesn't. Complements - Not in the sense of words one might shower upon her in admiration, for such things only make her blush! No, Lili finds a great deal of enjoyment in things that complete each other, or make things seem perfect. Things that complete each other are poetic like that, and she likes that in nature. This applies especially in colors. Red and green, orange and purple, yellow and blue… Piano – When she was much younger and her parents were trying to find a niche of talent to fit her into, Lili was subjected to piano lessons—and she enjoyed it! When things are too quiet around her home Lili will often play the piano, depending on her mood. Otherwise she just plays music from a stereo. She’s not professional by any means, but she enjoys playing and considers it one of her many important hobbies. When she plays music to stave off silence, it's often piano. | Rude People – Hate for Lili is often too strong a word. There aren’t many things that make her seethe or boil. Rude people are definitely on the list, though. As someone that tries to be kind to whomever she meets, she can’t stand watching people mistreat others for no reason. She will allow herself to be treated rudely to a certain extent, but she will defend herself if she is pushed to the brink. She will also step in on behalf of another person if it becomes clear they cannot defend themselves. Small dogs –They tend to get very yippy, and though Lili doesn't mind a little noise, she finds that small dogs are a little too talkative for her liking. As long as she doesn't have to own them, she's perfectly fine, but please if you have a small dog make sure they are trained and don't bark a lot! Weeds - She's a natural florist, does this really need any explanation? It goes without saying that most weeds are vile in a garden environment, and though Lili's love for plant life is hardly matched, such invaders must be removed from her gardens! ... and perhaps gently placed elsewhere. Some weeds she is okay with having around - specifically dandelions - but that's about the only exception she can make for the pests! Violence – Though herself being trained in self-defense by Vash, Lili is very hesitant to use anything she’s learned on another person. She dislikes violence and people getting hurt, enough to possibly intervene on a helpless person’s behalf and reprimand the assailant. Unfortunately, her sweet exterior means few people will take her seriously. Could she actually defend herself if it came down to it? Who knows, she's never actually laid a finger on someone else. Required Reading – Lili learned a while ago that reading becomes a chore when it’s a requirement and always found it weird (and slightly amusing) that textbooks only became interesting when she read them at her own whim. This never really helped her much in school, because more often than not she would read assigned materials long after her exams on the subject matter were finished. Disorder – Lili is a very clean and organized person. She does not like clutter and she does not like messes. She will correct messes as she sees them and tries her best to never make any herself. It seems to particularly irritate her in the store environment when people take items from shelves and then get ride of them in an entirely different part of the store. If one cannot buy an item, why not siply return it back to where one got it? Over-sweetened Things - Lili enjoys sweets as much as the next person, but everyone has their limit. In particular, this applies heavily to the things she drinks. She isn't a huge fan of soft drinks, and her teas and coffees are sweetened almost minimally. Conversely, she loves sweet breads, icings, and fillings, and will gratefully indulge in such treats. Dissonance - In sound and especially in color. She's very orderly and organized, so to Lili there is a certain way things must be done and arranged in order to be appealing. If the pattern is broken, Lili must set out to fix it. Such things are distracting to her, and many times she will drop her current duty to reorganize or fix whatever is causing the disruption. Not to mention clashing noises are painful to listen to. Ticks - Those itty bitty nasty bugs that infest animals and make them sick! Lili hates those little devils with a burning passion, and her dislike of them is surpassed only by her fear of spiders. She's a little paranoid that they might jump off of an animal and onto her, but she has to remind herself that those are fleas, and she doesn't mind those too much. Teasing - A given. Lili's figure has never been the most voluptuous, and this has earned her a place among the young ladies of various schooling establishments as a potential target for brutal teasing. This directly influenced her desire to grow out her hair, because after she had cut it when she was younger she became a more prevalent target. She hoped that longer hair would deter most teasing, but her figure hasn't filled out at all (in a way she desires.) |
Dreams | Fears |
To Fall in Love – Which she might have already done before, but no. She wants love. She wants that knight in shining armor, that prince charming, the cunning rogue that sweeps the fair lady into his arms and carries her off to adventure. Call her immature if you want. She doesn’t mind. She always imagined herself as a little bit of Rapunzel, trapped in the ominous castle guarded by a fire-breathing brother—erm, dragon. To be Famous – Or, more specifically, she wants her store to be famous. She and her friend Elise Segher have already managed to become big names in the collaborative catering business, and though she’s arranged decorations for the illustrious Bondevik family’s many galas and parties, she has yet to make a name for herself in the world of flower arranging. In fact, Mr. Bondevik hardly even mentions her name outside the context of business, but perhaps that doesn’t mean she’s totally unknown. After all, Lukas Bondevik, heir to the company throne, managed to pick up on her surname immediately. It’s not an easy job to make money in, and the only way she ever be able to call herself rich would be to obliterate the competition with her skills! Right? To Gain Independence – She’s 21 and still dependent on her older brother for food, shelter, money, everything. She hates to admit that she’s still basically a child and he still treats her like one. Lili desperately wishes to prove that she can take care of herself and make her own decisions, but so far all of her attempts to do so have ended badly enough to only prove Vash’s point. Step one, get a job. Check. Step two, move out… um, that’s a work in progress. | Losing Her Brother – Her current, more prevalent fear is losing her older brother to something, anything. The recent deaths of their parents has given her a paranoia for his safety, possibly on par with his paranoia for hers. She dislikes the idea of him being hurt, and she will go to any lengths to defend him as best as she can. Spiders – Lili is absolutely terrified of spiders. In contrast, she doesn't mind most other animals or insects, but spiders seem to trigger in her a debilitating and freezing fear that leaves her paralyzed in place. It matters not what species the spider is, the toxicity of its venom, or whether or not the spider would rather flee than fight. She will be scared regardless, and will react unfavorably. Her fear presents a challenging obstacle if the spider happens to be sitting on a door. Silence - Silence being a thing that normally marks the onset of some terrible event, negativity, or unnatural thing. Silences while respecting the dead or the quiet of a forest as a beast is on the prowl, silence is foreboding and never announces anything good. Silence, thus, is a terrifying thing, and Lili cannot stand it for very long enough becoming paranoid or scared of her surroundings. For this reason she will always play music or carry music with her in an attempt to stave off that fear. Skiing – Ever since that day, Lili’s been afraid of snowsports, but skiing especially. Don’t invite her along to any trips unless you want a terrified lady along, and she’ll constantly nag for your safety. Long story short, no one will ever have fun if she’s along, so just do yourself a favor and avoid telling Lili where you’re going. Mirrors - Specifically mirrors at night, when they are cloaked in darkness. Lili swears out of her peripheral objects in mirrors move despite lacking sentience. They are supposed to reflect the real world, but when those reflections are obviously demonic in nature, she tries as hard as she can to avoid mirrors at all cost unless there is a light she can turn on. Mirrors during the day do not bother her, as she frequently uses them... but there is always that fear that something will reach out and pull her in. Death by Poison - Her love of plants seems to present to her a constant risk. Some of the world's most deadly toxins come from plants, and though it's unlikely she'll be growing any it is still a rather scary thought. Dying by poison sounds to her like an awful way to go. |
Background |
Lili was born in Liechtenstein, in the capital city of Vaduz. Her blood parents were unfortunate teenagers who got entangled in things they were unprepared to handle, and through an adoption agreement Lili was immediately given up to the Zwinglis and given a name to mark her heritage. Despite this, she is very much a Swiss woman, who knows nothing of her paast and cares not to research them. After all, her family is the people who raised her, correct? As a baby, though, she was very much unwelcome by her older brother, who merely saw her as a squirming annoyance that stole attention from him, who preferred being a single child. He hated the thought of sharing his parents. This was quite amusing to his parents, especially as they grew up and Lili became visibly attached to her bruder. Vash did not acknowledge her as a sister until much later. She was not blood and he recognized that, and his brotherly instincts didn’t kick in until the day they were playing (it was one-sided, she was mostly just following him around the property) and she was stung by a bee. He was conflicted between leaving her there alone to find their mother, or carrying her back himself. He did the latter, realizing that leaving her alone would only many her panic and cry harder. He couldn’t bear to watch her cry in that kind of agony. But it was from that point on that the two of them became inseparable. Lili’s love for her brother was so great she strove to even emulate him. At four years she used her mother’s scissors to chop off her hair, hoping to style it identical to Vash’s own hair. Their mother was horrified, their father was amused, and Vash himself didn’t really know what to think. He was flattered on one hand, but on the other she did such a terrible job he silently wondered if his hair actually looked that bad. It took a professional stylist to get her hair back in order, and the style stuck for the next few years. When Vash left she was devastated. To make matters worse, he was offered a position at a prestigious school (and a position was even extended to her, but their parents were quite unwilling to let both children go.) It was weird becoming the single child, but managed it just fine with many calls to her brother to talk to him and check up on him and say hello. Lili didn’t seem to have the natural knack for education that Vash did, but she was nonetheless intelligent in her own special fields growing up. Her home and country encouraged the learning of several languages and she is fluent in the Swiss dialects of German, Italian, French, and Romansch. Her English is less practiced, but she is capable of getting by with little effort. She is unaccustomed to slang, and accents confuse her. She’s used to your typical Londoner, but throwing other accents at her makes understanding difficult (which is why she often gets flustered at the Irish and the Scots, all of whom are so dramatically different from the English-- and even then there are several English accents that throw her for a loop!) |

Oh God, the journey to the outskirts alone was an adventure in of itself. Though Lili guiltily had to admit she only barely ran it by Vash, promising to be home by a certain time, giving him her contact information, and briefly stating she was going out with a friend – mind you, all on paper and not in person – she found that just the cab ride into the outskirts was worth her small bit of deception. He was going to be so angry. That or he’ll just collapse and fall asleep someone. The last few days seemed to be taking an exceptionally hard toll on her brother, and most of his time home was spent in bed, punctuated by the occasional break to eat or otherwise take care of himself. It was a needed break from the grey of London, for both of them to be frank. Whereas Donald must have grown so restless in the city as proved by his response to the idea, Lili simply couldn’t keep herself happy with merely the nature found in her little corner at the end of the rainbow. The smallness of home… she missed it. This was about as close as she could get to it, and what a sight it was. As said before, the journey certainly was enough to make it all worth it. The land outside of London was a gorgeously pristine green, plants flowering back to life as winter slowly began hibernating itself. Warmth and activity was slowly returning to the British Isles. And goodness, the cab ride! The way Donald’s face lit up when he discovered their driver was a fellow Irishman! She’d grown quite attached to Donald’s accent over the course of their friendship. He was very fun to listen to, the way the tones and inflection of the Irish dialect flowed which in itself was enough to make a lot of what he said quite funny, even if in reality his word were simply lame. Take that feeling, but double it. The driver’s voice was not as smooth, but Lili was trapped in between two lovely speakers, interspersed with words of her own when she found herself an opening between the two talkative men. They went back and forth trading stories as if they’d known each other forever, similar to her own first impression of Donald! He seemed to just naturally command the attention of strangers, which explained the relative ease with which he warmed up to her. Sometimes, though, she had to admit the banter was a little hard to follow. Though, she was proud to say that after listening to Donald speak as much as she did, she was getting much better at picking out words and understanding the bits of slang through context! Despite the progress, she had to reason that the natural flow of their conversation was much too natural for her to interrupt with questions. "Ah, here we are. Middle of no where fer ye folks." Intoned the cab driver as he pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The cab eventually stopped some way from the bustling city. Lili looked out the window: water off in the distance to one side, vast landscape to the other, dotted by buildings whose heights were dwarfed by the unseen skyscrapers of London. Dear God, she would see trees now… “I don’t think I’ve taken a cab with someone quite as social as you.” Lili complimented, after Donald had said it own thanks. “Or maybe I’ve just had bad luck with drivers! Not many seem to enjoy the small talk. Thank you for the wonderful conversation.” She reached for her door as Donald slipped out, but wait--! Her door was opened the second his was closed. Woah, hold on—what? Really, Donald? Indeed, it was him, holding her door open like the gentleman he was with a cheeky grin on his face. Hah! She didn’t expect him to take her challenge so seriously. What she said was barely even a challenge, ’Feel free to open the door if you can beat me to it,’ were her words. Well! He certainly taught her something today, and that was in addition to being incredible speakers and bright-eyed people, the Irish could also teleport. She returned the grin with one of her own as she stepped out of the vehicle and into the crisp air. “Why, thank you Donald!” She said, with feigned dramatics. The two Irishmen continued their conversation until, unfortunately, the driver had to take his leave. She congratulated him just as Donald had, sending him a wave and a smile in thanks for his time, effort, and conversationalist nature. With the car then slowly driving out of sight, Donald adjusted the backpack and his posture. They had the day to themselves and a country to explore, and complete and utter freedom. "Well, ready te embark on a new adventure? Te right our own epic in the vast lands oer' England." He questioned, smiling brightly. “I sure am, and I hope England’s ready for us!” She was just as excited as he was. And adventure would be incredible, here in the place where adventures were defined by the world’s most precious of stories. The greatest epic ever known to man was waiting to be written, just over those rolling hills. |
